It Is Always Said – Reiki Finds You!

Article by Vedant Vikrom Borah

In a previous article my friend Radhika Subramanian said, “It’s always said that Reiki finds you rather than the other way around”. I couldn’t help but wonder – How true! In fact in the Reiki Rays interviews the very first question is “How did Reiki find you?” But why do we keep saying that?

I pondered over how Reiki happened to me. I was a simple kid who really had no clue about the vagaries of life. It was in 1996 after my paternal grandfathers’ demise, loneliness took a toll on my grandmothers’ health. I was in Mumbai taking care of her when my aunty suggested over the phone, “Why does he not learn Reiki and help mother (my grand mom) heal!” I still have no clue how it all happened – the attunement and classes, but for next couple of weeks all I remember doing is Reiki until my grand mom recovered, got onto her feet and we happily returned home from Mumbai. Reiki chose to heal my grand mom through me.

And I stopped practicing thereafter. Fifteen years hiatus, grand mom being old and frail only kept asking for Reiki, “I remember you helped me heal long ago, can you do that again?” And yes after that there was never looking back for me as a practitioner. So did Reiki choose me? Yes it did, as a medium to be able to channel Reiki or cosmic energy wherever it is needed.

The interviews by Reiki Rays of our dearest authors have led me to a conclusion, of sorts, that Reiki chooses its channel either as a kid perhaps for a greater purpose as in case of Sunetra Dasgupta or let’s say you happen to come across and have an immediate pull towards it like in case of Phillip Hawkins and Justine Melton or after a whole lot of challenges Reiki comes to you as a respite – Deborah Llyod and Angie Webster have gone through their own share and only emerged stronger and happier ☺

It is always said - Reiki finds you!

So here’s what other channels had to say. When they were asked – They say Reiki chooses its channels! So, how did Reiki happen to you? What circumstances led you to your first attunement?

(Health issues)
With increasing stress levels in corporate world to meet client deadlines, my immune system was becoming weak and anxiety levels were increasing. As a result, I was falling sick quite often either with cold, fever or tonsillitis. I had become a regular visitor to my local doctors’ clinic. I wanted something that would reduce my stress levels, promote relaxation and take care of my health issues without the use of antibiotics. I searched the net looking for alternative healing therapies and came across Reiki. I read lot of reviews about how people had benefitted from it. I felt Reiki was a complete package that would take care of my requirement. I got attuned to it 2 years back. I started doing self healing every day, my stress levels reduced, immune system became better. I started feeling more energetic and happy. I visit my local doctor once in 6 months now. I can have ice creams, drink cold water directly without the fear of having tonsillitis because I know Reiki will take care of it. In addition to all this, Reiki has helped me to move in right direction of my career, got me connected to people who had similar interests like me, has increased my intuitive abilities and improved my overall well being at mental, emotional and spiritual level. I thank Reiki for choosing me as a Reiki channel ☺

(Chosen one☺ )
Reiki chose me. No doubt about it. One of my family friends has been teaching Reiki for 25 years. She had insisted me, my mom and sister learn it. We decided to give it a try. Honestly, I saw a major shift after Usui Reiki 3b – my palms were hot for two entire days post attunement and I was drinking loads of water. I do not know and cannot explain why that sudden change after 3b. But that’s what happened. They say Reiki is a compassionate and kind energy. It was kind enough to choose me. I definitely needed it. And I also strongly believe, Reiki goes to only those in need of it. I have given Reiki to my friends, their problems go away and they still do not want to learn Reiki. They are not destined to.

(Separation, loneliness and life challenges)
Probably all good things start with some kind of trauma or say some kind of bad experience (reminds me of the Death card from Tarot deck) – I was going through a break up and I was wondering what to do! Most of us keep them under the wrap while others express it openly with courage. But there is no shame! Each and every event is here to teach us something. Learn the lesson, move on. Life is as simple as this! However it took some time for me to learn that.
As a puzzled, heart-broken, lost person I was led to a Reiki Master and Holistic healer (I don’t have much remembrance as to how that happened!). It was the first time I was introduced to Reiki though not attuned. I learnt about Reiki, Chakras, Aura and various other things and attended his meditation classes. Shifting to a completely new city I explored my own self having spent more time with myself – I was at peace with myself. All I wanted was to heal the situation I started looking for a way out! That was the time I ended up or say started my new journey with Reiki. The change started there.

And here is what Non-Reiki channels feel about Reiki. They are my very close friends who have undergone Reiki sessions from other practitioners as well as me. Their life too has been picking themselves up from either ill health or situations and breezing through life with a smile.

Upasana Sarma
I still vividly remember the first time I received Reiki from my yoga teacher way back in 2006. I was nervous and much tensed as my 12th board exams were round the corner and my mom called her up asking for help. She told me to do some deep breathing and to try and calm my mind as she gave me Reiki. I don’t remember experiencing any immediate changes though I definitely felt a bit reassured in my heart thinking someone is looking over me and protecting me. Over the years, I have got to know through my friend that a little more faith would be more useful to reap the benefits of Reiki energy. A faith that says that the core of all our unhappiness and problems lies within ourselves and can be healed through positive energy channels.

Samanda Syiem
When I received Reiki for the first time, I did not know what it was. But when I was healed by it, I was impressed. While receiving Reiki, I can feel a tingling like sensation along my skin almost like tiny vibrations. After that I feel calm and weightless. This happened when I received Reiki through distant healing. Other times I would simply feel deeply relaxed.

Nathaniel Dkhar
I was surprised the first time you tried Reiki. Samanda believed in it even before since she was associated with Reiki healing but me not so much. After you and your friend tried Reiki healing I could feel a connection. Samanda felt lighter and I was calm. Reiki was almost Hocus-Pocus for me because I don’t understand it but now I’ve experienced it. It was a connection between people which conventional wisdom can’t explain, I guess we’ve all felt something similar but we might have acknowledged it as intuition, prayer, etc. It felt like someone is helping you carry your load and you are not alone.

It is for us to stop awhile and breathe in the joy, enjoy the spring and winter alike; life is always much more than what we give it credit for. Personally, I feel it is a lot of introspection, of analysis, of picking yourself up and walking again, of our own development, of being able to help others which lead us towards a greater purpose – soul evolution. Shwetha’s note did make me feel special and intrigued as well. If destiny is to gift us all Reiki be it as channels or clients, SO BE IT; it is an amazing energy to even think of walking away or not practicing it. Life after Reiki is simply satisfying. But for whatsoever reason Reiki chooses its channels the idea is always to respect the energy and use it for the highest good. If you are a channel or have been touched by Reiki’s love, smile because you are truly blessed.

Excellent article, thank you. Reiki definitely chose me. I had only ever had 1 taster session of Reiki and had not heard of it prior to that. I was doing psychic development with a friend who is a Reiki Master/Teacher and had no interest in learning it. One Friday she called me to ask if I could help her out, be a guinea pig so to speak. She had a Reiki 1 workshop on the following day, 3 of the 4 participants had fallen ill and the last student had insisted on having a “group” tutorial so would I come along for her student to practise on. In return, should I wish it, I could have the attunement. I did help her out, had the attunement and have never looked back. I am now a Reiki Master/Teacher and love what I do. Reiki definitely chose me and I am so glad it did. Namaste.

Reiki definitely found me…I volunteered to be part of a demonstration during a caring for yourself day when I used to volunteer as a bereavement counsellor. I was a complete sceptic, didn’t even know what I was volunteering for but lay in the couch anyway…all I know is I felt the energy move through my body and liked it. No big flashes of light or inspiration. All very subtle and that is definitely how Reiki has remained in my life. I don’t even know how I ended up doing Reiki 1, it just seemed like a good idea at the time. I wasn’t attuned to it for another couple of years and now I am a Usui and Karuna Master/Teacher. Reiki has changed me and my life so much but has remained subtle and constant. I have met some wonderful people thanks to it and I’m forever grateful for it finding me.

Reiki found me. As a child, about 50 years ago, my mother discovered a form of energy healing call Augni yoga, and would take me to her group meditations with her, and have me participate. Throughout the years she would encourage me to practice the principals. About three yeas ago, after relocating to a new locale, I came across a new thought church where a member is a Reiki Master, and she wanted to teach Reiki to me and another person. Hence, I am now a Reiki Master as well, and volunteer my services monthly for a wellness offering.

Reiki certainly found me. Many years ago, at a spiritualist church, the medium asked me if I was a healer. I replied ‘no’ and she said I should be, a healer of animals. I did nothing about it and put it to the back of my mind. As I say, that was years ago and since then, my husband passed away and I have been lost, feeling no future, no place for me. Last November, in Australia, I felt a spiritual connection which didn’t leave me when I got home. In February, I woke in the middle of the night and heard the words” you have to be a healer, of animals” it made me remember the words of that medium all those years ago and I knew that was what I had to do. So, now, here I am as a Reiki Master Practitioner. Have not felt this content in years.

When my horse died suddenly and unexpectedly, after 26 years together, I was beside myself with grief. Two horses comforted me, licking and kissing both sides of my neck. This lasted for 10 minutes and when they finished, my grief turned to joy. They healed me in such a profound way that even now it is beyond my comprehension. While they were working on me I knew I wanted to become an animal healer and give something back. I took my Reiki Masters last year and have not looked back. I love the energy and the transformation it has brought about. I am so grateful and thankful for this wonderful gift.

Reiki is so beautiful. It is an amazing energy and practice that called to me and found its way to me. When I first heard of it, I saw a simple flyer that said reiki massages or classes or something like that. For some reason, I didn’t search it out, but it kept coming into my thoughts for the next few months. It was as if something from above was gently pushing it into my thoughts. Then I met my future reiki teacher and friend, Dave.
I have been studying and practicing for almost 6 months now, and it has been nothing short of miraculous. My life has transformed in so many beautiful ways. I have finally aligned myself with my higher purpose and have realized I have always meant to be a healer. Throughout college, I went from pre-med to psychology, but never followed through. Right before I found reiki, I decided to go back for business because I had a vision of helping to create a beautiful facility to help others heal themselves. I realize now that I wasn’t meant to heal through any of traditional means; I was meant to heal through reiki and help others do the same.

Brandon, your post resonates with me and my own life experiences. I too feel that becoming a reiki healer is my soul’s purpose.

So True. It did choose me too. 🙂

Oh, boy! I sure do concur! I had kept meeting people and making friends who were into Reiki for a number of years before I actually got into it…and when I met these people, there was a mixture of curiosity and skepticism, as I bet many of you felt at first as well. One special friend stands out in my memory as being quite a powerful channel, and he did a short “demonstration” or “sample” healing on me once, in which I did undoubtedly feel a subtle energy…but years passed with that memory temporarily buried until I had gotten very sick a couple years ago. A different friend offered–not a healing session–but a remote attunement while I was in the hospital…I had developed infected lesions in my brain, mostly in the left frontal lobe, causing the right side of my body to go into paralysis, among other frightening things…She suggested that I would make a great healer and offered to attune me for free, as long as I promised to “pay it forward” and help others when my health returned. I had an intensely powerful and beautiful experience following the attunement, and once I was able to move my right arm again (after about 2 weeks), I did treatments on myself mornings and evenings for about two months, along with crystal chakra healing…I was very dedicated to these practices, and enjoyed a remarkably expedient recovery, especially considering the magnitude of trauma I had experienced…and since then, I enjoy this beautiful, free-flowing love and feeling of safety and security I had not felt before. I absolutely believe that Reiki kept being “introduced” to me repeatedly for that reason. I needed (and still do need) attention and healing in many areas and had always felt that it would take something miraculous to help me feel more whole. Reiki did that for me in so many ways and I’m eternally grateful, as well as glad to humbly share my experiences with both believers and skeptics. <3

I just received my first Reiki session. It was amazing!!! I will be starting Reiki healing classes soon. I am so excited. Reiki chose me when I had some life changing moments that led me down a path of enlightenment. I have my own natural abilities that are being expressed strongly right now. I am just becoming aware of many aspects about my self that I’ve suppressed all of these years. I look forward to the knowlege I’ll acquire through these classes. Great articles on this website…

Reiki chose me when I was visiting an auntie, who had cancer, she was in a hospice, every time I entered the hospice my hands and feet would go on fire, I would cream her legs or arms or just hold hold her whilst she was vomiting, she would always sigh and say, you have healing hands, she showed so much strength, was not afraid of dying, she had so much strength, I was talking about auntie one day when client said you should take up reiki, I didn’t even no what reiki was, I went following week to be attuned to reiki, I believe in reiki so much, one day I pray that I can truly focus entirely on reiki, share and give the gift of love and healing to others, love and light is to be shared
