Article by Deb Karpek
Born from clients and students asking me questions over the years, I’ve decided to share what has worked for me with simple, easy to follow advice I like to call Illuminations.
It’s time! Let these little keys be the big jump-start you need to get going. Put it out there! Get used to the idea of having your own practice. Not ready? Read the article anyways. Plant seeds. Send a signal to the Universe. You are laying your foundation. If you already have a practice you may discover something new or find validation in these pages.
Seem simple? It can be. When I began my Reiki practice I got a lot of advice from many well-meaning folks. I learned (sometimes the hard way) to keep it simple. It doesn’t have to be difficult. That is what I share here with you.
1. Do it Afraid
Until you are able to see what others see in you Do it Afraid. Keep showing up. Ignore the doubt, the niggling fears, and the voice inside your head that tells you “you can’t do this”. It’s not real, it’s fear. Your desire is real. Follow that path.
2. Find Your Path
There are many paths up the mountain. What is your ticket to the light? What is calling you? What are your passions? If the genie appeared and you could have anything you want what would it be? Take money and fear out of the equation. What is it? Discover your path and move toward it.
3. Believe in Yourself
Always believe you can do it. Don’t let your past, those in the present or your fear of the future hold you back. Believe with all of your heart that you will be successful despite your fear and insecurity. That’s not real, but your heart’s desire is.
4. Do Your Inner Work
Expand yourself. Do your work. A good Reiki Master is one that is always working on themself. Never stop! Seek out new teachers. Continue your training. Be open to all new opportunities, especially those that scare you. Keep moving forward!
5. Practice Self Care
Set time aside for you. Take days off. Rest. Play. Get enough sleep. Eat Well. Drink more water. Get a Massage. Receive Reiki. Meditate. Find the balance so you don’t burn out. Make it a daily practice.
6. Everyone and Everything Is a Teacher
Healing opportunities abound, especially when starting a practice. See everyone and everything through these eyes and welcome the opportunities. Pay attention! Stop blaming and judging. Look into the mirror! It is quite humbling and very freeing.
7. Reiki Brings Up Our Stuff
When you are practicing and teaching Reiki for a living remember that Reiki brings up your stuff. Please allow and welcome the healing opportunities that Reiki brings. Remember what we resist persists. Learn the lesson and let it go. Allow, accept, release.
8. Learn From Mistakes
Don’t be afraid to make a mistake (and admit it). Mistakes are how we learn. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going. Be grateful for the lesson and add the mistake to your knowledge base. Don’t be afraid to share your mistakes. There is no place for shame or fear here, only healing.
9. Remember Your Gifts
What do you bring to the table? What are the skill sets and gifts you can bring to your Reiki practice? What have you done in your life up to this point that you can use in your business? From creativity to bookkeeping, you can use it all. What talents do you bring to this new job?
10. Reiki Is the Teacher
You are not the teacher. You are a person who is giving your students an attunement and many tools and resources. You are laying their foundation and each student will go out and build their own house. All of those houses will be different. So practice and listen, Reiki will guide you. Reiki is the teacher.
