For many of us, experiencing and learning how to do Reiki was the entry into the world of energy healing and other holistic concepts. We may have expanded our beliefs about healing from western-world “fixes” to a deeper understanding of how the mind, body and spirit aspects of ourselves must be at the core of true healing. We learn how the gentlest way of healing is actually the most powerful way of healing.
Our society continues to focus on medications, surgeries and other invasive forms of getting well. Sometimes, these techniques are necessary. Unfortunately, these often focus on symptom management and do not touch the core of what is causing an issue. Reiki energies, however, go to the cause of the problem, while also providing some, or all, symptom relief.
Likewise, other holistic healing modalities have a similar function. Each relies on the foundation of the chakra system, working with each energy center and the meridians. For example, acupuncture, acupressure, and massage therapy techniques provide healing to specific body areas. Often, blockages are released and blood circulation improves.
Other modalities, such as aromatherapy, color therapy, sound therapy, and stone and gem work, may have less effect on the physical body. But, the energies still affect the person’s chakra system. Color therapy resonates strongly with me, as we are surrounded by color in our homes and offices, wear an array of colors and eat food in many colors. It affects us every second of every day. And yet, we are barely aware of it. As we become mindful of the colors we choose to be a part of our lives, we may experience amazing results. We can influence our emotional bodies simply by the paint colors we choose for our walls, the clothes we wear and the food we eat.
If you play quiet music during a Reiki session, you have already introduced the idea of how quiet music can be calming to a person’s being. Many Reiki practitioners ask for guidance in choosing the specific CD’s, itunes or type of music would be most helpful to a client. Sound therapy, of course, is much more playing than soothing music. It can involve singing, chanting, drumming or playing other instruments, striking tuning forks – the list goes on. This is a fascinating area to explore and can greatly complement Reiki healing.
As we explore and gain more knowledge, this can be very helpful in our Reiki practices. Every tidbit of information can be used to make connections and assist in the healing of our clients, and ourselves. This knowledge will become a part of our toolbox, enhancing the experience for clients.
Another practical aspect of learning additional modalities is offering an array of healing modalities for clients. If a client agrees to the use of aromatherapy during a Reiki session, not only have you introduced them to another modality, but you have added to the healing potential. Some clients may want to experience something “new” and request that modality only. All energy healing modalities are good and whichever one they choose is exactly what they need.
Last, but not least, every time we learn about another modality or technique, it helps us on our own healing paths. We will realize benefits in our own lives as we absorb new information. All we need do is ask for guidance to help us to bring healing to this earth – for ourselves and others. And, watch it unfold!! It is an amazing journey.
