Article by Deborah Lloyd, Reiki Master
In today’s busy and noisy world, one of the greatest benefits of a full-hour Reiki session is the opportunity for quiet. Even with soft background music, the quiet atmosphere in a treatment room provides an oasis from noise, noise everywhere. Our world is full of clamorous sounds fighting for our attention. From the morning ritual of electric toothbrushes, pounding shower water and electronic devices to the last hours of the day being spent in front of the television or computer, the chatter never stops. Sometimes, we may feel uncomfortable when silence surrounds us.
Spending some time every day in quietude helps us to be human beings, not human doings. The experience of Reiki helps us to remember this is what we strongly desire, even when we continue to make daily decisions not to seek this life-enhancing experience.
There are many physical benefits to being quiet for even short periods of time, on a daily basis. Stress levels decrease, which results in boosting our immune system and decreasing the aches and pains in our physical bodies. Blood pressure, cortisone and adrenaline levels are also lowered. The calmer mind functions better, as cognitive abilities are sharpened and more focused.
People also report a greater ability to deal with emotional issues. They are able to process emotions with better objectivity and clarity. The disturbing emotions of feeling out of control and being overwhelmed have settled down, changing to feelings of manageability and calm. Additionally, with the practice of daily quietude, people feel less lonely and more connected to others. Over time, a person’s emotional perspective has been transformed.
Spending time in quiet enhances one’s spiritual understanding. Not only does a person feel connected to all people, they also feel connected to the One. This brings a multitude of blessings and enriches a person’s life beyond all imaginings. Deep within ourselves, we know we are whole human beings, always unconditionally loved. It is so easy to forget this truth, in our overly-busy world. Remember – remember – remember this truth; Reiki reminds us, every time.
The experience of this spiritual connectedness is brought alive during Reiki sessions. Whether you are the giver or receiver, you literally feel the Divine energy within your body. The giver connects to the Source and soon healing energies flow down the crown chakra and through the hands. The receiver’s being experiences mind, body, spirit healing. The more you give and/or receive Reiki, the more you will know this connectedness.
The quiet time spent in Reiki is a pathway to whole-being healing, and it extends to the other hours of our daily lives. We learn how easy it is to connect (simply set the intention and ask). We remember that we are always unconditionally loved. We learn how beneficial it is to set aside all the busy-ness of tasks and simply be. Let us give gratitude for the great blessing of Reiki!
