I was once an advocate of grounding by sending our energy into the Earth. Now I have come to believe that it is better to ground through the vehicle of our own bodies. Simply coming home to our bodies and returning to the present moment is all we need to do to ground. When we do this, we are automatically grounded into the Earth and we don’t bypass our physical bodies.
The energies of hurry, worry, fear, anger, and regret take our spirit energy away from being fully present in our lives and our bodies. You may have noticed that when you are in these states, you feel slightly “ahead of yourself” or “stuck in the past”. Maybe you are ruminating over something that was said and you “can’t let it go”. You feel like time is “getting away from you”. We have all these figures of speak because, in these states, our energy really is shifting away from our bodies and the present time. These states unground us and take us away from the now. Our energy is mostly somewhere else, while we are trying to carry on a life in the current time. We function best, are stronger, and feel better when our energy is fully present in our bodies. When you’re grounded in your body, you will no longer feel scattered, lurching forward trying to get to the next moment, or reaching backward with your thoughts into the past. You are instantaneously brought into the present moment you are with physical self and fully in your life.
The easiest way to ground into the body is to simply place your hand on your chest. This very quickly brings you back to yourself, and to a feeling of comfort, centeredness, and presence. By placing your hand on your chest, you sense your heartbeat. You quickly begin to feel present with your own precious self, here in this body and this life. You feel your breath moving in and out of your body in a very personal way. Through the visceral sense of these things within our bodies and the tactile sense through our hand, we recognize our aliveness and presence in a very real way. We also feel it through our mental focus on these sensations. By returning to the current moment and to our bodies, we are automatically grounded.
Whenever you find yourself hurrying, worrying, or reacting hastily to life situations, take a moment and place your hand on your chest and sense your breath; sense your heartbeat. Maybe take one deep breath and have appreciation that you are here in this body, in this moment, on this Earth right now. Feel how this brings you back and feel the comfort that you can bring to your own self in this physical body by simply offering yourself a hand on your chest. It isn’t even necessary to start the Reiki flow to feel the benefits of this and it takes less than a minute. This is an excellent way to ground anytime, including before and after Reiki sessions, while doing errands, or first thing after waking in the morning.

Grounding has been an issue for me. I can’t run out in the cold to “ground” with the earth each time I feel that I need to be grounded. I tried the hand on the chest and it instantly relaxed me and brought me back to where I should be. It ended the “craziness” in my mind and life. Thank you.
So glad you have your solution, Colleen!
Thank you very much for sharing this technique,, it felt as if it was specifically designed for me
God bless
Namaste
You’re welcome, Suchitra! I’m glad you found it useful and am happy to have shared it with Reiki Rays readers.
great technique. I read an article on the symptoms of psychic attacks by external energy and I have not been able to sleep at nights totally psyched out..as if someone is watching over me..cold chilling sensations body moving etc. is it psycological?
It sounds as if it began when you read the article, so it probably is due to fear. It is usually best to avoid such articles if they instil fear in you. Fear is rarely a useful energy.
Thanks for the wonderful tups
Thank you again Angie and besides this being very well written, this will help me in many ways and I will share the tip with family… I needed an easy way to also “ground” myself to control breathing as my voice recovers as anxiety or anxiously forcing my voice made it worse and I lost the rhythm of my breathing while talking too. Thank you and blessings to you 🙂
I’m so glad it helps you! Many blessings to you as well, Chris.
😀
thanks dear Angie for simplifying grounding n reiki
just loved ur article ❤
Indeed very easy and powerful tip for grounding. I liked it
I think you’re confusing centering, which is what is described in the article, with grounding.
Dear Angie, I reikied my son drew all symbols several times and sent him to his granddad’s place for vacation and after two days he is back with a fractured arm. was so upset and disappointed. why did this have to happen?
Almost anything we do, with grounding in mind or being mindful of our presence in the moment, will help us to feel less scattered. My favorite is the Yoga tree pose or Vriksasana (sanskrit). In Vriksasana I can feel the energy of Mother Earth welling up from under me to help me to connect to my subtle bodies bring a sense of peace & well being. Namaste
Thank you Angie 💖
