Reiki is a powerful healing practice that can initially feel overwhelming due to its rich history, principles, hand positions, and concepts. However, one of the most crucial aspects of working with Reiki is often overlooked: simplicity.
To ease beginners in my Reiki classes, I recommend a straightforward technique for Reiki Level 1 students.
- Each morning, before getting out of bed, rub your hands together while focusing on Reiki.
- Place your hands on your heart, feel the energy flow, and express gratitude for yourself, your day, and your path.
- Allow yourself to notice the sensations, and then consider moving your hands to your head, navel center, or anywhere else you are guided to place them.
- Setting your alarm 5 to 20 minutes earlier can create space for this practice.
Incorporate this protocol throughout your day—at your desk, in the car while waiting for kids, or just before falling asleep.

Recently, I’ve introduced an additional protocol in my classes aimed at helping the world.
- Stand outside with your feet grounded.
- Rub your hands together and position them facing downwards to send Reiki to Mother Earth.
- Call upon Reiki to flow through you and out of your hands. If you are Reiki Level 2 attuned, consider incorporating the HSZSN followed by the SHK symbol to remove any less-than-light energy, followed by the CKR for protection and empowerment.
This practice supports Mother Earth and benefits all beings who dwell upon her. It also allows the student to notice the flow of Universal Lifeforce Energy from/through them to Mother Earth and back.
For advanced practitioners working with Soul energy, the Tibetan DKM symbol can access profound energy across generations.
- While in meditation, hands in Kanji 3 activate the Tibetan DKM symbol and ask your question.
- Allow your hands to move to your heart when ready, then move them to the crown chakra, extending through the 8th and into the 9th chakra to open a channel of light.
- Call upon your Higher Self to receive messages essential for your Soul’s journey.
- After receiving these insights, sweep energy from the crown down to the earth, sealing it with light and the Tibetan DKM symbol once more.
- Take time to ground yourself with the Raku symbol to bring into the physical realm this newfound knowledge.
Finally, remember to stay hydrated, which helps to flush the energy through the physical body, and take notes on your experiences. We begin with ourselves, expand our practice to those around us, and ultimately connect back to our soul.
Notice what you notice… another important and simple aspect.
