Every practitioner who’s been into Reiki for a while knows that it does work. Some people though fail to get great results, and conclude that it doesn’t work.
There are a few things which could cause Reiki to “not work”, and people who don’t get the expected results are most likely doing or having at least one of the following. There are of course other factors too, but these are most common.
5. Silver bullet mentality
On the fifth place we have the Silver Bullet mentality. Some people expect Reiki to just kick in and solve all their problems for them. That is not usually what happens.
Reiki is not a silver bullet and it doesn’t work that way. The way it does work is, with practice, it will help you see your problems, and it will show you a way to solve them, or many times teach you to just let go of them – but in the end it will be you solving your own issues.
4. Impatience
Many people have unreasonable expectations and for some reason believe that Reiki is like a magic pill that you just take and you’re fixed. There is unfortunately no such pill, and these pill seekers won’t find it in Reiki, nor will they find it anywhere else, for such pill does not exist.
Reiki takes time, and its practice is very much like growing children. Parents will definitely agree with this one. Just like when feeding children, you’ll surround your daily practice with love. Just like time spent with your kids, the sessions are something practitioners enjoy and look forward to.
If someone said to you, “hey, I’ve been feeding and taking care of my newborn for 3 whole days now, when is he going to grow up?“, you’d probably burst into laughter, thinking “what a good joke”.
Reiki is a way of life. Just like kids growing, little difference (if any) can be noticed from one day to the next. But when looking back at months and years of practice, the changes incurred are very obvious and profound.
3. Lack of practice
The “bronze medal” in this top is taken by the lack of practice.
Just like any other “craft”, the more you do it, the better you’re at it. The energy channels are cleared with each session. Every time you invoke a symbol, even if it’s just for a few seconds, the energy is reinforced.
The performance of an athlete who trains every day will be very different from the performance of an athlete who trains once a week.
2. Approach
With reason #2, things start getting more subtle.
Reiki is a journey, not a destination. It should be approached as an exploration, as an expedition to discover new territory, new things, that will come in time. Not with over-excitement, but with tranquility, joy, and a smile.
It is not a destination with stages 1, 2 and 3. It most certainly does not end with the Master / Teacher level. In fact, it never ends. It’s a continuous, transformational journey, filled with growth experiences and great learnings. It’s a peaceful journey, and it starts with the certainty that life is already great, and it can only get better.
There is always something new to learn and to experience, and just when you thought you’ve reached the destination, the path to the next stage becomes clearer. The wise practitioner approaches Reiki as a journey, not as a destination.
1. Attachment to the outcome
This is probably the number 1 reason why Reiki does “not work”, and it’s even more subtle and difficult to “self-diagnose” 🙂 than number 2.
Especially when new to the practice, people tend to channel the energy towards a specific outcome, instead of a specific situation. For example, you might channel the energy intending that you pass a specific job interview, instead of just sending the energy to the entire situation, being open to any outcome that serves the highest good of all involved. Attempting to channel to a purpose will simply negate the effect. It will strengthen the attachment, creating a “clingy” feeling, which will in turn create resistance and stress.
When channeling Reiki, detach yourself from any outcomes. Resist nothing, and be open to anything. Trust that Reiki is an intelligent energy that will find its way to the highest good. Perhaps failing that job interview is a prerequisite to your discovering that you can contribute in a better, different way. Or perhaps you’ll just do great in the job. The key is to just be open to both outcomes, and to all other outcomes. Perhaps you’ll get a job at that company, just not the one you’re thinking about. Or perhaps you will refer your friend to this job. The possibilities are infinite, and we can only appreciate the abundance of opportunities we see at every step we take.
So don’t cling to any outcomes when sending Reiki. Instead, aim for a feeling of flow, of peace, of openness, and trust (and aim for) that whatever will happen is the best thing for everyone involved – even if they don’t know it yet.

Almost o.k. daily practice is the only source to achieve Reiki in hand.
I started Reiki treatments to help with chronic moderate to severe chest pain from an injury in 1993. While it does not remove the pain, Reiki puts me in the spiritual place where I can live with the pain that is present. For me, that is more powerful since I am in a better place overall…
Thank you so much.
SridharbabuT
I AM A IIIA degree holder. I have to continue sincere practice regularly to catch the
goal.
I agree that being attached to the outcome is the number 1 fail point. After years of practice and teaching, working on someone I love deeply, it is tougher to be detached.
I have to say that in the beginning number one was the hardest for me. I know that just letting it flow for the highest and greatest good always gives me the best results.
What about number 6? The obvious omission – that Reiki has never been scientifically proven to offer anything better than the placebo effect?
Hi Joel,
No 6. “The obvious omission” is for people who want to experience the statement you wrote.
Reality is experienced as per the viewpoint of the beholder. When one does Reiki, one understands things beyond Science and Scientific. Science provides one with a rational outlook on things. If you want to see just a placebo effect, you can continue with number 6.
If you want to know if it works, then you need to take a leap, and observe it yourself with your own awareness, and come to terms with yourself if it works.
You will be the one who ultimately decides.
And may be you can question an idea that people who hold Science at a higher value.. “What about the stamp of ‘Science’ one craves for certainty?.. Does it make Science more trustworthy than your own awareness and observation?”
Questions you may ponder but need not answer to anyone. 🙂
May the truth not hold back from you or even me. Cheers. Love and Light.
the mind is a powerful tool Joel….and if the placebo is working….you have a problem with that?
Please refer to the work of Pamela Miles on the “relaxation response” the placebo effect is actually proof the mind can heal the body. Anu one who doesn’t believe in the mind body connection has clearly never orgasmed while imagining something sexual in nature. Also the work of DR. LISSA RANKIN M.D.. she has a Ted talk and a book entitled mind over medicine which gives a detailed explanation of the placebo effect and how we can heal ourselves (With details about the role healing facilitators play in the healing of a patient) there is also a you tube video thsthat provides updated scientific proof on the effects of techniques like Reiki but the name is slipping me right now. If i remember I wilm post.
so right Melania…I get a kick out of people who say its JUST the placebo effect….if you think for just a moment what exactly that means its mind blowing….it means exactly what you said…the mind is healing itself and that is HUGE in my thinking.
Completely agree…the “JUST” the placebo effect argument…. 🙂
Joel Brandon, have you looked at the Center for Reiki Research.org site. They do a second peer review on all Reiki studies that have been published in medical journals. They are focused on the truth, not outcome. They post all evidence supporting and not supporting the use of Reiki as a healing modality.
Joel, what I’ve come to understand is the placebo effect is not at play because Reiki also works on other living things like animals and plants.
Joel, it’s in the eyes of beholder whether a glass is half filled or half empty. Believers it is miracle that people like me could authenticate – rain in desert like – literally when on a hot humid journey Reikid for rain and nature blessed miraculously cooling the climate to comfortable journey!! What I meant was not only in healing but in other purposes too Reiki helps, have experience galore! The placebo affect.
thank you the more information the better I say. In the light
Excellent post. For me, daily practice and releasing attachment to the outcome are very important. And yes, it is a journey, which I think goes hand in hand with practice.
Reiki always works, sometimes it takes longer. Or you can get speedy delivery, and reiki can fast track and healing is quicker.
This is a great energy and the healing is in the energy, not in ourselves, or the receiver it just is.
Marvelous insight .never read before
Another reason not mentioned is if you Re unwell yourself it won’t work as you need to heal yourself first
you say there are no quick fix pills, i beg to differ. when i get a cold my doctor gives me anti-biotics ( pills ) and in a few days i am fixed, i challenge you to tell me that reiki would have healed me just as quick as the pills did. i warn you in advance, my brother is a “reiki master” and up to now he hasnt been able to do anything for me except something to laugh at.
A cold is a virus. Antibiotics are not used to treat a virus ! It wont do any good. Antibiotics are only used to treat bacterial infections so if your doctor is giving tbem to you for s cold he is over using them Ma cold
The very words you use serve as proof of why you won’t get any benefits! You have a preconceived pompous position that it is Hocus Pocus and even though you ARE receiving, your limited and closed minded Perception will keep you in that Perspective of No Benefits! You Will What You Want! Think Negatively and you counter and cancel any discernible benefits that limited view of reality can allow! If you have or had a sense of Higher Self, you will know that Energy is Real and May Have Been Received! Either Way,Be Well and Namaste! Closed minded or not!
I have treated my 1 yr old daughter with a cold..she was becoming distressed so I lay her on my chest and started doing reiki..we both fell asleep…when I awoke..my daughter was playing on the floor no cold and in perfect health..I on the other hand had a full blown cold….so reiki does work and works everyone. .just the out come might not be what we expect…
Maybe rather than laughing at your brother enjoy a treatment.. at the very least it’s a lovely relaxing experience. …..
Hi joe, just come across ur comment, just curious why are you so interested in reiki ? It would appear from your comment that ur main aim is to prove all reiki theories and users wrong ? There is no right or wrong there just is. There is also a theory amongst a lot of people who practice spiritual ways that, some people like where they are (living with illness) and are fearfull to step into a state of well being because it does not serve their souls purpose. My husband the sceptic did his reiki to please me !! And then genuinely felt better and is now happy to be involved with reiki. Like a lot of spiritual practices it it meant to promote well being and open ur eyes to your lifes purpose. Maybe your purpose is to question therefore strengthening the belief of others. Or perhaps ur fear of feeling content is overiding ur need to be happy. Whatever you choose is ur correct soul learning path and i wish you love light and happiness for your quest . Namaste
Just a quick note. You may have a cold and the Dr gives you pills and the cold is gone in 5-7 days.
I’d he doesn’t give you pills, most common cold will be gone in 5-7 days.
And the reason Reiki diesn’r work for you is as you stated ” i go to the Dr and he gjves me pilla and thwy qoek”
Try saying I go for a Teiki treatment and it works.
Thank you so much.
No 3 is what I struggle with.
I don’t get to practice on humans everyday. But I do practice Reiki everyday day on my cats and dogs I send it to my job before I get there, etc
HI SHARON, yes i know a cold is a virus, and antibiotics wont treat it, let me be more specific, when i get a chest infection and fever with a running nose, the doctor gives me pills ( atibiotics ) and in a few days i am well, my reply was to a poster who said pills dont help, but the fact is THEY DO reiki DOES NOT because my brother is a “reiki master” and all he can do for me is make me laugh at him.
All pills do is mask the problem. You’ll be back at the doctor cuz antibiotics are poison. You don’t believe in the energy of Reiki, that’s why it doesn’t work for you. Western medicine is what keeps doctors in business. You sound negative anyway. That is your #1 problem.jmo
Hi Joe! Have you ever heard the expression ‘laughter heals?’ It sounds like your brother is doing a great job. With love and light and Reiki blessings.
Hahahaha!! Totally loved your comment. Double thumbs up!!
I love that perspective also! His brother’s reiki *is* working (for the highest good!), by making him laugh….just not his expected outcome! Lol!
I am a reiki master and I have successfully used it on my children when they were sick with fever and colds without giving them drugs. Fever was gone quick , sore throat gone faster than with any pills. congestion cleared . I am sorry you have no experienced that but we have.
Hi Joe, Not everyone is open to alternative healing. I just ask you keep an open mind. When your brother or someone else offers to give you Reiki, it is with compassion and love. It’s okay if you are not ready yet. Peace, Love & Light, Dorthy
HI TO ALL here is a link for all of you click on it and it will tell all of you how good reiki is http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/reiki.html
Its funny how you are choosing to waste your time on something you clearly don’t believe in! Anyway, we practice Reiki and your negative comments will not affect us. Lol. Peace!! Love and light!! 🙂
Why dont you go elsewhere instead of replying to Joe? Everyone has a right to be heard. I appreciate Joe’s input.
Why should Shwetha go elsewhere when this is the place for people who DO believe in Reiki? And when a person keeps commenting even after knowing that, it doesn’t look normal, that’s all. And, that too someone who thinks antibiotics work for cold. So go ahead, listen to him. No problem. If you are here just to understand what’s happening, just watch the comments or add comments that have meaning rather than asking someone to “go elsewhere”…
Joe, if a Reiki isn’t for you, why don’t you just go somewhere else and stop wasting your time, or anyone else’s.
I look at receiving reiki healing like being given a gift. You can gratefully accept a gift someone gives you or you can choose (of your own free will) not to accept it. Not accepting the gift does not mean it wasn’t a good gift Joe it just means you didn’t accept it.
Joe why troll a Reiki web site if it’s not your cup of tea? Hmmmm maybe it is working…
Peace and wellbeing to you Joe. Reiki works for me! I am grateful for this intelligent, universal, healing energy.
Reiki does work right away, but the person needs to follow up on it. You can clear the lungs of a smoker but if he or she still smokes then its only maintence work not a final solution, Reiki works right away as a relaxer helping people through difficulties, Reiki works right away stopping bleeding from cuts or nose bleed, it works right away as you put your children to sleep or yourself, taking away sourness out of muscles and different pain from different injuries, what has been for a long time takes longer. But that being said it yes helps people deal and find solutions to their problems. What is missing there on this list is people need to be sure to learn from a surtified and experianced Reikimaster, and each needs to have been attuned from a Reikimaster and show a certificate of that fact before calling themself reiki healers. It is not enough to have read the books or seen the symbols. If you are not attuned you are not a reiki healer. So going to a certified healer is the first step to success. Nobody makes you stop smoking but you can get help doing it with reiki.
I believe Reiki always “works” even if it doesn’t do what we want it to.
I believe in Reiki and i think every one will get the result when he believe in Reiki and do it properly, with proper time and with heart.
Understanding Reiki as an Energy Medicine can be extremely helpful in understanding why Reiki sometimes doesn’t work. There are five energy bodies of the human energy anatomy and Reiki works on two of them. So if the problem is in these two bodies, Reiki will help, if they are in the other three, Reiki won’t.
Thats really interesting Tiffany, do you know where I could find some more info on these 5 energy bodies?
Love & Light
Hi Eve. Yes, check out Chyna Honey’s book called Understanding Reiki: From Self-care to Energy Medicine. It’s the only one I’ve found that treats Reiki like an energy medicine vibration (rather than a spiritual or meditation practice) and really braves to answer the questions we’re all looking for about Reiki, like “how does it actually work?!” 🙂
I’ve just ordered it on Amazon, thanks Tiffany! 🙂
Nice. If you want to stay in touch about it, I’d love to know what you think and if it helps your practice at all. [email protected].
Hi all,
I was taught to use affirmations as specifically as possible. Like mentioning even the figure of salary or date by which you intent to have a job.
After reading this article I feel that such affirmations are output oriented and therefore m confused.
Can some one pls tell how do I make my affirmations situation oriented.
P.S: I do add for the highest good of all involved in my affirmations.
Hi Rasika. Affirmations are a mental activity, they are a tool of the mind. Most people’s experience of them is that they bring relief in the moment but not lasting change. This is because they stay a mental activity, they stay in your head and don’t go anywhere. It is only when they connect to your energy that they can help you. The best way to ensure that is to create a positive emotion while you imagine. Imagine what you’re looking for with great detail, as much detail as you can, like a movie, and feel all the positive emotions that come with it. Having said all that….affirmations aren’t Reiki. They’re a mental activity. Reiki is an energy medicine vibration that the human energy anatomy needs to stay balanced and healthy. There is so much to understand about Reiki – which energy bodies does it work on, what actually happens to keep the anatomy balanced, what else can it tell you diagnostically, etc. So while affirmations may be valuable to other parts of your life, they aren’t Reiki. Hope that helps!
Hi,
I got Reiki attunement yesterday. My teacher told me that I can go and cure even a cancer patient now although he emphasized the need for practice for me to get the real benefits of Reiki. I have been trying to cure my own tooth ache for about 15-20 minutes but unable to do so…
Initially, like you have mentioned, I was impatient and was expecting an instant releief from pain…but then i realized i was being too impatient and I tried for about 10 minutes hovering my hand above my cheek..didn’t work..and theat’s when I searched for reasons and reached this site..any advice? Is there any way i can confirm my attunement was successful and I can actually heal?
Hi sAnt.
So much of what Reiki can cure depends on which of the 5 energy bodies the problem resides in. Reiki affects two of them, so if your tooth ache is caused by an imbalance in one of those two, it will help. If the imbalance is in any of the other three then it won’t. Experience tells me that cancer will not be helped and that the tooth ache will if it is mild, but not if it is moderate or severe. Those two bodies that Reiki directly affects are the ones that are most affected by the stress of daily life. So what Reiki does exceptionally well is relieve the rips, tears and stresses in the energy body of living – shopping, arguing, sleep deprivation, etc. What Reiki can do is phenomenal, and because most people are Reiki-depleted so many symptoms can be relieved just by a few Reiki sessions. But understanding the limitations of Reiki will help you have realistic expectations and put your efforts in areas that can be developed further. Hope that helps. If you want more information on this try Chyna Honey’s book, Understanding Reiki: From Self-care to Energy Medicine.
Thank you so much, Tiffany. Yes this is very helpful, but now I’m a bit confused by some of the calims like providing relief to cancer patients, and some other diseases like liver cirrhosis, IBS, etc. I will try to get the book you suggested, but since just a day after I went to the attunement and I’m hearing something that is the opposite of what I heard, I’m really not very sure how it will help me. x
Your experience is so deeply disappointing and I’m sorry that you had to get to Reiki by such a unhelpful route. Place your hands in a softly cupped position on your body (other positions will create energy vibrations, but it won’t be Reiki) and feel what happens. If Reiki comes, that is the solid place to start. You have Reiki. From there, everything else will be just fine. Reiki can solve so many health and life problems, it is a truly miraculous healing technique. It can get rid of symptoms that have been plaguing people for decades and are severe. So don’t worry that you won’t be able to make a difference or severity won’t be reduced or eliminated. But understand why, how the anatomy and technicalities work, so that you will understand when it doesn’t and be able to navigate all the different possibilities. People tend to treat Reiki as a spiritual practice, which is a shame. Because it makes things vague and wooly, and it doesn’t have to be that way. The truth is pretty straight forward and easy to understand. And understanding it, opens many doors.
Thank you, for the reply Tiffany. The thing is I can’t “feel” Reiki when I hold my hand over any part of my body. But I did have an experience a few days back (the day before your reply), which I think is proof that I have it. I have varicose veins and on some days I have swelling and pain on my legs. usually, it doesnt go away until I sleep adn get rest. It is difficult for me to get sleep when tehre is pain.
That day, just after I completed my 13 chakras and started healing my legs, my pain just vanished. I could not believe it. It was gone and I have never had this before – like I said, I usally find it very difficult to sleep when I have leg pain and I usually find it difficult even to sit.
Hi sANT. Good for you! I’m glad you are getting results. That is exactly the kind of result I would expect from you using your Reiki, so it does seem to be working. I wouldn’t worry about not feeling it, not everyone can, some are more sensitive than others. You may be able to feel more as you get more experience. What is more important is that it is working and that you are using it.

Reiki is beautiful, it came into my life when I needed it to, I had suffered with grief after loosing one of my grandparents and a friend, I had also just been through redundancy, a relationship breakup with my fiancé, I had to move back into my family home and rehouse my beloved dog as I no longer had room to keep him, I was filled with fear, anger and all sorts of lower emotions, I went to a reiki practitioner to get a treatment, it was beautiful, the energy was just amazing I could feel every moment and was filled with gratitude and love for all these experiences because it brought me to reiki, I had a further two treatments, within the three weeks following the treatments I had the courage to move to a new country to find employment, I found a wonderful home for my dog, I manifested a new home, a new job, I found a healthy way to deal with my grief, I sold my car for three times the amount it was worth and I had a really positive outlook on my life. Since then I had also continued some negative patterns which I manifested some negative circumstances and health issues ,which again drew reiki into my life again I found a wonderful reiki practitioner and went for three treatments, my personal circumstances improved again, I moved to a new home, I received the all clear after a biopsy, I managed to give up smoking, my success at work seemed to skyrocket which was effortless and I decided to take reiki 1 course, I have since completed 2,3 and teaching course. I could spend all day writing about how much I love reiki, so I will tell you my lessons I have learnt since finding reiki. Reiki creates a new awareness which allows you to choose new outcomes- but it is your choice wether you wish to go down a new path for a better outcome or if you wish to sabotage yourself over and over again by sticking with the same old negative patterns. Reiki is different for everyone each person will have their own relationship with reiki, if it feels good it enriches your life, your soul, your mind, your body and your emotions because you are open to receiving it. If you fear reiki or you judge people who practice reiki by laughing at them then that is your choice it is simply not for you so go find something else that you enjoy and that enriches your life, we all have different life experiences which shape our reality. All I know is this reiki has blessed my life and I will continue to practice reiki for as long as I want to because it’s my personal choice, I am enjoying the journey! My soul loves me so much it shows me each and everyday the baggage I need to clear, to be magnificent, to light up the lives of my loved ones and make a difference in this world. Reiki has never cured any colds for me, the energy goes where it needs to which does not necessarily mean a physical cure for a cold, if I have a cold I get rest, drink hot drinks with honey and look after myself until I feel better. If I think I have a bacterial infection I go to my gp for diagnosis and antibiotics if needed. All forms of healing have a place in my life and I am open to receive the best option for my health at that moment. Pretty much common sense really
Ellen, beautiful explanation. I’m a level 2 and I’ve experienced miracle healings with reiki. One of the things I would like to stress is that Healing is for the highest good. Someone may decide to receive it for back pain but at that moment in time emotional healing of some past hurt may instead be needed for their highest good. Reiki flows to where it is needed. We are just a channel. This is where the naysayers come in to play… I do not try to change their mind, they are not ready to receive, nor can they comprehend anything of this nature, they are on a different path.
This post hit the nail on the head for me. I do wish to say, however, that after my level I and II attunements,
I ended up frustrated, as I felt my training was lacking in that I wanted to know ‘why’ the symbols came to be
and whatnot. I found a book that I hope will answer my questions. I’ll let you know further down the road what
my thoughts will be then. 🙂
I am a level 2 practitioner, i learnt reiki to get rid of all health problems, especially calcaneal spurr, but to my chagrin their number has increased and the spurs are enjoying robust health giving me violent pain while i am walking inspite of using a footwear made of soft materials. Some of my problems have been thoroughly eliminated recurrent kidney stones is now a matter of past. But tell me why i am unable to get rid of calcaneal spurrs inspite of regular daily self healing
I think this has been answered earlier, perhaps you have strong expectations of the outcome you want, that is not ideal, you would be better to accept whatever result you get is meant for you. It is not magic, it will not prevent bone growth, you will likely need surgery to alleviate your issue, but Reiki will help you heal quickly afterwards… Good luck to you
Hi Amudhan. Have a look at previous posts here about how Reiki works in certain parts of the energy anatomy and not others. So whether or not Reiki helps depends on where the cause of your spurs are. There’s a book by Chyna Honey on Amazon that has more information about this. There are other vibrations than Reiki, and those will reach the other parts of your energy anatomy. You need an energy medicine practitioner who can figure out where in your energy anatomy the imbalance causing the spurs exists, and knows the vibrations to fix those imbalances. Hope that helps and good luck. – Tiffany
I am a Master Reiki , I find my strength that I have work, but my energy is light , I try to get more power but it work on some people and less on other , I think my ability start to get less
Hi Anil. Are you saying that you feel strong when you work but your Reiki is weak? And that your Reiki is stronger on some people and weaker on others? I want to make sure I understand your question fully. – Tiffany
Yes, It is true that Reiki is a journey. One should surrender to Reiki completely
Rajeswari ReikiMaster/Teacher and practioner of Homeopathy
I can’t agree. “Surrendering” to Reiki gives away responsibility and accountability. In order to learn more and deepen our understanding we must remain an open conduit that is responding to the situation as it changes in front of us. Going into a meditative state, surrendering, or doing anything that takes us away from that open, attentive, responsive, position is a distraction and may be harmful.
Tiffany appear marketing for certain rather than providing relief with emphatic answers. Getting into meditation in its true manner would solve your problems whatever it may be never it would be destruction or harmful as Tiffany claims It will guide you to the right solution. For that fact there is nothing that Reiki could not penetrate if used religiously any embodiment or wherever Reiki is capable of reaching as it is an intelligent energy. Yes Reiki has live examples curing dreaded diseases not only cancer but beyond. Be confident and go on using Reiki any and every field bound to get result am sure.
Hi! I didn’t catch the name of the writer of this article, so can’t address nicely.. What is written is absolutely right to the T. The problem is not with the healer, the problem is with the patients or clients.. They think that reiki should do miracles in a few days time.. Explaining them about our chakras, the cleaning technique and the procedure and time it will take, just doesn’t seem to enter them.. They say yes at that time, but expect miracles in days.. Now, that cannot happen since we aren’t gods here..
Is there a way to explain them in any language that miracles don’t happen? One needs to have faith and patience in such things, just like we have in god..
Beautiful article.
Thanks.
I practiced reiki for last 8week for my right ear,it is deaf for last 20 years.I know one thing,I believed in reiki and expected to regain my hearing but i don’t know why it was didn’t work. There was no change I found in my right ear. Can anybody to help me? Please mail me:[email protected]
Hi Jayan. Reiki is an healing vibration that repairs the rips and tears that occur in parts of your energy anatomy when you come into contact with harmful energies during the day. In this way it is our strongest self-care technique for our energy and should be done daily. Without Reiki these small rips and tears become larger ones and can eventually lead to significant symptoms or disease. If this happens, Reiki may no longer be able to repair it. Lack of Reiki is not the only reason for symptoms or disease and in those cases too, Reiki may help you feel better, but may not eliminate the problem. In these cases you need other healing vibrations that do different jobs. However, there are times when a situation is too far into the physical and Energy Medicine can no longer repair the problem. For example, if your hearing loss is due to the absence of hair on your nerve cells, a skilled Energy Medicine practitioner may help you maximize what you have, but will not be able to grow them back. Hope that helps. – Tiffany
I’ve been doing Reiki for 35+ years. In my experience this article is right on point. This is especially true when it comes to the process. I have found that, with me specifically, the process is the most important aspect of all Reiki work. My work continues to be an ongoing revelation which takes various forms. Often these appear as challenges which offer a certain kind of insight.
The temptation here is to call these insights lessons, but I’ve learned that the term lesson does not actually apply. A lesson assumes that you learn something you didn’t previously know – but from a spiritual perspective this is not correct.
There are various spiritual teachings, most notably those found in “A Course in Miracles,” which put aside the idea of life being about learning lessons. Such teaching assert that our soul already knows the absolute truth about everything. It contains, on some level of being, the divine knowledge of creation, and the creator. That knowledge is that nothing exists which is not a creation of divine love – everything else is simply illusion. However, to paraphrase Einstein, the illusion is very persistent.
When we are born on earth, we develop a kind of spiritual amnesia. Which is to say, we tend to think of this physical world as being separate and distinct from that of spirit. We imagine that we are limited only that those things which we can sense or the physical properties which seem to make up the real world. These are the things which form the foundations of belief about what is real, and what is not.
Reiki then seems to defy such beliefs, and so, seems perhaps to be nothing more than wishful thinking, or perhaps the stimulation of so called innate, but dormant healing properties which are common to all humans. From that limiting view, indeed Reiki may not seem to work because of such an unconscious understanding.
However, I think what Reiki really does is to awaken us to the illusion of this reality. With practice, and the application of intention, it can bring about a kind of enlightenment which very literally expands consciousness. In doing this it opens a kind of spiritual doorway through which we can see beyond the limits of the physical realm.
Put another way, Reiki helps us wake up from the illusion.
Healing then takes place when we understand that all problems are really just illusions.
I’m living proof that Reiki does work. Maybe too well. I was the biggest skeptic when I had my 1st treatment. Yet I couldn’t deny the results. Just from the first time. I was so impressed that I took classes and became a Master. The downside is that I attracted an energy vampire from this. He was charming and beautiful. And evil to the core. Like the devil himself. And I was under his spell. On the outside he had so much light. And children and animals loved him! Yet he sucked me dry and left me in a very dark place. He was powerful and manipulative and when we were apart I felt him in my head. In my very core. I felt his darkness. I thought to myself he’s just damaged. I can fix him with love and light and reiki. I’m strong enough. I was wrong. He sucked the energy from me and then used it for darkness. Now every time I use it I feel a tingle up my spine and I “see” him appear. He always knows. Any ideas in how to better block him? I’ve tried everything. He busts right through them. He is VERY powerful.
We automatically assume that when someone asks to be healed they totally want it. If they are cured it may mean that they have to secure work, leave the parental home etc. This can be very daunting and can cause a block to the healing. You may sense as the healer that the healing session isn’t like normal and you may feel that you are losing your Reiki gift.
I see auras and it is amazing. The aura is also can behave as the body’s protective field. I work as both an Energy Healer and as a Reiki Master. Sometimes if I’m Energy Healing I only have “permission” to heal on a certain layer of the aura. Then after a time the client breathes a heavy sigh and their body relaxes often with their shoulders. This is your sign normally if you were healing with Reiki and you felt the energy was not free flowing as usual.
I then see a hole appear in the aura at a certain point and then this allows me access to the body then the whole proactive aura shield appears to collapse inwards. So my advice is to all Reiki therapists do not be anxious carry on the session as usual, wait to the heavy sigh and the energy will feel like its being received as usual.
Also, please remember that it is estimated by the renowned cell biologist Bruce Lipton that approximately 95% of the health issues and illnesses are caused by stress and the effect on the body. People have had years to build up a condition and some expect it to go in one hour treatment. Now and again you will get miracle cases where you uncovered the energy block straight away through Reiki healing. However, you are there to help the body rebalance and aid it natural self healing mechanism which takes more that one treatment depending on the severity of the case.
Sometimes the energy flowing through your hands will feel different. There is a reason for this but that is a different topic area.
I hope this helps
Kind regards

I definitely understand that people get attached to a particular outcome with Reiki. I still struggle with the concept of expectation vs. intent. And in a previous discussion about it somewhere else, there seemed to be a lot of differing views. In addition, I have always wanted to visualize positive outcomes. Visualize myself having a good time in a particular situation. Visualizing it going well. And of course, being open to the idea that it may not go well. The idea of sending Reiki for the good of an entire situation, and then being okay with whatever the outcome is, is a good practice. However, these are things I feel that we can do without Reiki if we choose to adopt that mindset. I can send “good vibes” to a situation in that same way. Thus, I still struggle with an understanding of how Reiki truly impacts things in a way that couldn’t be similarly achieved by mediations, visualization, etc. I think a lot of people are drawn to Reiki for its purported healing properties. And yes, if healing occurs, it can be subtle and take time. But I can’t fault anyone who is drawn to Reiki because of the benefits that are “advertised” about it. Because those benefits are advertised a lot on various websites. When it comes right down to it, I think it’s more about our mindset, our intentions, our ability to let go of expectations and our belief in ourselves more than anything having to do with Reiki. Reiki could be a tool that some choose to use. But for me, it hasn’t had any benefits that I didn’t feel couldn’t be achieved in other ways.
Hello every body,
I am Reiki master Anup from Calcutta, India. I just want to say about my feelings on Reiki. In my life Reiki is not only a healing energy but also it is an Angel who gave me a new life. without Reiki I can not live. Although I belongs to spiritual State India and I am also practicing paranormal healing for removing black magic. but I can say Reiki is the power which can protect ourselves from all kinds of evil effects.
My input is for Tara although her post was almost a year ago.
I would recommend for protection against psychic vampirism that you wear jet and amber. One is wood and the other one is the resin from the baltic sea. You can wear them as bracelets on your non dominant hand.
Now from the energetic perspective, I myself apply stones and crystals with excellent results for both physical and spiritual issues.
To avoid tears and repair holes in my auric field I wear a necklace with Labradorite and Kyanite. Just buy one bracelet of each and have it made into a necklace. Or you can just find a tutorial on how to make a bead necklace.
I love my stones and crystals!! They are magical and each one has its own being (angel) residing within.
I encourage you to work hand in hand with crystas for a more potent effect.
Love and light, Okhita
People want to think Reiki is “wilfull” but it is instinctive. It is the channeling of energy.
A friend of mine recently received her first Reiki treatment, albeit a short one as it was given by her yoga teacher to all of the students in the class. She excitedly asked me, “Am I attuned now?” and told me about the migraine that she has afterwards followed by a sense of peace. I smiled and said no, but that I was glad she experienced it. I’m glad I’ve been attuned, self-treated, treated others, and had others treat me. It provides me with a source of hope when I need it. It will always be one of my “go-to” tools. I discussed it with my friend and we believe that the benefits of Reiki are a result of the healing properties of touch, an open mindset, and a desire to heal. We also agreed that someone can benefit from these things even if Reiki is never incorporated. That is why I’ll always smile when people both poo poo it or support it to the point of argument. We can heal and flourish with or without the presence of Reiki. Not invoking Reiki won’t prevent potential healing from happening if that healing is meant to happen. It won’t cause things to happen more or less favorably if it is invoked. Therefore, if Reiki works for someone, I say great! And if it doesn’t, then I suggest other ways of achieving the peace, healing and spiritual growth that is often attributed to Reiki. If someone isn’t benefitting from Reiki, it’s not necessarily because they don’t want to heal or are being impatient. It simply may not be their thing in the way that it is for others. It helps to appreciate and recognize that life presents us with many opportunities to receive any number of benefits. But even as a practitioner, I’m not naive enough to think that Reiki is the only way.
A friend of mine had a bad back and I asked her if she would like me to do reiki on it. She said I don’t believe in that stuff. I told her it didn’t matter whether she believed in it or not it was worth having a go as she was in so much pain and at the very least it would relax her. After the session she said she did feel more relaxed and able to deal with the pain. After about half an hour she was amazed to find the pain was completely gone. She told me she really didn’t believe in it and didn’t think for one minute it would work, so I don’t really think it matters whether people believe it or not. I organised the rheiki course for a group of women who requested it and joined in out of curiosity, I didn’t believe in it but suspended my belief so that I could enjoy the experience. I felt it’s power immediately.
With all due respect to Reiki, and as a fellow Reiki practitioner, it is stories like these that give people false hopes about the power of Reiki. Several years before becoming a Reiki practitioner, I sought out acupuncture for some minor ailments that weren’t responding to more conventional forms of treatment. I had hope and an open mind. I went weekly for about 3 months. It helped a little. I later learned that much of what is beneficial about acupuncture is that it presents an opportunity to lie down in a quiet, often dark room for 20 minutes–and relax. Relaxation is something that we don’t make time for nearly as much as we should, and often only do so when we’re sick. We don’t prioritize it enough as part of our daily self-care routine. When you tell someone that you’re going to do a Reiki treatment on them, whether they believe in it or not, it gives them a chance to relax. A chance to momentarily suspend their worries and have hope for change that they didn’t think was possible. One can still have hope that something will work even if they don’t believe in it. In addition, they are being cared for and tended to by another person. For some, the opportunity to be cared for is not only therapeutic, but also rare. I believe that these things are the true source of healing. I think that Reiki may complement the relaxation in leading to healing, but I do not believe that Reiki is responsible for the healing. In my experience, I’ve seen too many Reiki practitioners discount those who feel nothing, or whose pain is not ameliorated by their treatments. Those who feel nothing, or do not experience healing, are sometimes viewed as not wanting to heal, or needing more treatments. This to me is a disservice to Reiki. I was taught that Reiki works for our highest good. And in some cases, our highest good may be the relief of pain we’ve been experiencing. And in some cases, that may not be what our highest good is. But when we have hopes and expectations about Reiki, or hear stories about it like the one told by Margaret, it provides a false sense of hope. The truth is, there is no such thing as a “magic bullet”. As I’ve said before, healing can happen in any number of ways–and Reiki may nor may not be a part of that. As practitioners, I think we need to be truthful with ourselves about how much we focus on positive outcomes because we don’t want to think that we’re ineffective as healers. I’ve given treatments to friends who said, “Wow, that felt great!” and went on to tell me about their experience. A few later admitted that they didn’t want to disappoint me by saying that they didn’t feel anything or experience any change. They mentioned similar experiences when going to other Reiki practitioners. I let them know that they weren’t disappointing me at all. That I appreciated their openness and willingness to receive a Reiki treatment. And that If it didn’t help them, it doesn’t mean they’re incapable of being helped–in general or by Reiki. I think we need to be mindful of not promoting too many “magic bullet” stories. Because as practitioners, I believe we all know that any number of outcomes are possible and have seen them.
Reiki is a powerful tool. We create our own reality, the mind heals. Our intentions heal ❤
I had reiki done to me, once. I lied down on the table, and the woman waved her hands above me. I had no idea what to expect, or what it was even about. I did, however, end up feeling rejuvenated, and the best way to describe the end result would be to say that it felt like my soul was aligned with my body, and that both were moving together facing the same direction, whereas before, I think my soul was mounted within me a little crooked. Has anyone else experienced this?
Great article and perfect timing for it to come in my email. I am about to take level three and have allowed myself to fall from any practice of Reiki. I am now starting with the 4 precepts, and to practice with the three symbols to build up my Reiki energy.
PS one of your images no longer loads it was with the 4th reason.
I have been attuned to first degree reiki and I practiced for two months and then due to some circumstances, I could not practice for the last three months. Have I lost attunement? What should I do? Can I continue again?
Excellent explanations for people having misconceptions on Reiki. Thanks.
