Happy New Year to all Reiki Rays readers! All of us are happy to see 2020 in our rearview mirrors and move forward into a happier and healthier year. While we should spend some time in reflection about this past year, it is also important that we focus on the new year, 2021. As Reiki practitioners, what is our special role in this movement?
It seems 2021 will also be a “different” kind of year, in a positive way. In our country, upcoming political changes are bringing hope. Around the world, more people will be vaccinated every day, and the end of the pandemic will come. Returning to our previous lives will be possible again.
If you have a Reiki practice and were only able to offer distance sessions for most of 2020, this will also change. Returning to our familiar, calming practice spaces will be exciting. We, and our clients, will feel renewed with face-to-face interactions and physical touch.
We have learned many important life lessons during these past months, and we can focus on taking actions to create a better world. In other words, our experiences can lead to positive change. Reiki, of course, will give us the energy, the strength, and the guidance to move forward in creating this world.
Let us consider what we learned about climate change. We witnessed how less commuting to workplaces positively affected lower usage of fossil fuels, decreasing air pollution. We realized how we can drive less, with fewer shopping trips. We saw the return of animals and birds to our backyards. We spent more time outdoors and grew in our appreciation for Mother Earth.
Our financial circumstances also provided lessons. Many people were able to work from home, or in safe work environments, and their incomes were not greatly affected. Others are health care workers, or other essential workers, and they too had steady incomes. Perhaps, for the first time in their working careers, they expressed strong gratitude for their paychecks. However, many people lost their employment and faced financial challenges. Paying rent, buying groceries and other necessities for their families seemed insurmountable. Will individual materialistic goals fade, while sharing resources more equitably, grow among all societies?
We also came to a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all people on earth – no matter what country, culture, or belief system. The coronavirus did not discriminate – and neither should we. As all of us watched how this virus traveled around the world, we realized, more than ever, how actions on the other side of the world, or the town next to ours, can affect our lives.
As the number of deaths around the world climbed and climbed, we realized that each minute on this beautiful earth is precious. We learned that all lives matter. Our heart energies flowed to each person who suffered from this virus – as well as to every person who loves them.
As we return to our familiar, everyday routines, let us not forget all these lessons. Let us reach out to all people around the world. Suffering will continue, whether it is through poverty, famines, wars, diseases, etc. Let us stay in our compassionate hearts and practice our special Reiki role in manifesting a new way of being. Let us always make time to send Reiki to all people who are sharing this planet with us.
