How To Heal Childhood Wounds for 9 Enneagram Types – Part 2

Articles· Self Practice

4 Jul 2020

“I often wonder if you wrote your memoir today if you held wonder in one hand and courage in another and truly believed that anything was possible.”
― Jean Houston, Author & Spiritual Scholar

The seed of who you become in your life rests in the early years of your childhood. According to the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, toxic stress can have a negative impact on school readiness, academic achievement, and both physical and mental health throughout the lifespan of a child.

Toxic stress could include suffering from poverty during early childhood, witnessing traumatic incidents like domestic violence and parental mental health issues. More often, unhealed childhood wounds might develop into emotional and/or mental health issues in adulthood. Children tend to develop specific physiological and behavioral patterns that may harm their growth as well as adulthood.

As a Reiki healer, we need to observe people deep enough below beyond their worldly facade to understand if they’re affected by their childhood wounds.

Look for these signs, if any.

  • They portray strong and sensible personas to the world but crumble due to traumatic event(s) or memories from their past?
  • They get overwhelmed with the ups and downs in life?
  • They resort to unhealthy survival patterns/coping mechanisms to tide through the storm?

According to the Enneagram Personality Theory, a person can be classified as one of 9 archetypes based on their psyche based on their unique set of beliefs and fears.

  1. The Reformer
Personality Type: Principled, Purposeful, Self-Controlled, and Perfectionistic
  2. The Helper
Personality Type: Demonstrative, Generous, People-Pleasing, and Possessive
  3. The Achiever
Personality Type: Adaptive, Excelling, Driven, and Image-Conscious
  4. The Individualist
Personality Type: Expressive, Dramatic, Self-Absorbed, and Temperamental
  5. The Investigator
Personality Type: Perceptive, Innovative, Secretive, and Isolated
  6. The Loyalist
Personality Type: Engaging, Responsible, Anxious, and Suspicious
  7. The Enthusiast
Personality Type: Spontaneous, Versatile, Distractible, and Scattered
  8. The Challenger
Personality Type: Self-Confident, Decisive, Willful, and Confrontational
  9. The Peacemaker
Personality Type: Receptive, Reassuring, Agreeable, and Complacent

Every Enneagram persona includes a unique set of traits reflecting both “The Light Self” and “The Shadow Self” within a person.

In the first part of the blog series, “How To Heal Childhood Wounds connected to 9 Enneagram Types – Part 1”, we explored how to heal the childhood wounds of Enneagram Personality Types 1-3.

In this second part of the blog series, we will discuss a few simple ways to heal “The Shadow Self” as a Reiki healer for Enneagram Personality Types 4 – 6.

Fours are The Individualists

Light: Self-aware & Creative
Shadow: Self-conscious & Melancholic

They strive towards expressing themselves creatively with a sense of beauty and individuality. On the downside, they can be emotionally turbulent.

The most common childhood wound for “The Fours” has formed from feeling abandoned, lonely and unloved for reasons that they don’t understand. So, their biggest fear is “being isolated and helpless”.

How To Heal The Fours

  1. Invoke the power of HZN to heal their past memories of abandonment and loneliness from their childhood.
  2. Heal their thought and behavior patterns related to their childhood wounds.
  3. Invoke the power of SHK to heal their mental and emotional auric fields.
  4. Cleanse and balance their Chakras, with special focus on their Ajna, Vishuddha & Anahata Chakras.
  5. Connect with their shadow selves and slowly, softly heal the triggers that rekindle memories of their troubled childhood with loving-kindness.
  6. Guide them to self-empowerment and self-love instead of depending on others’ to love them.
  7. Invoke CKR to strengthen & empower their healed “Self” as they let go of their shadow selves during the Reiki healing.

Note: It’s possible that they carry the shadow traits as a shared emotion or memory from their mother. You can guide them to reconnect and heal their Swaddhistana Chakra to heal their parent-child etheric bond.

Fives are The Investigators

Light: Perceptive & Innovative
Shadow: Secretive, and Isolated

They strive to innovate with insightful ideas and convert complex concepts into simpler solutions. However, they can also become isolated and eccentric when in stressful circumstances.

The most common childhood wound among “The Fives” has formed from lack of meaningful connections with parents/guardians. They could have been embarrassed as a child and so began to build walls to defend themselves from the outside world. So, their biggest fear is “being defenseless and feeling exposed to the world”.

How To Heal The Fives

  1. Invoke the power of HZN to heal their past memories of being unloved and embarrassed.
  6. Guide them to self-acceptance and self-love instead of depending on others’ opinions.
  7. Invoke the power of CKR to empower and strengthen their healed “Self” as they let go of their shadow selves during the Reiki healing.

Note: It’s possible that they carry the shadow traits as a shared emotion or memory from their mother. You can guide them to reconnect and heal their Swaddhistana Chakra to heal their parent-child etheric bond.

Sixes are The Loyalists

Light: Reliable & Hard-working
Shadow: Anxious & Suspicious

They’re master troubleshooters who can foresee problems and develop solutions. However, they can become defensive and anxious during stressful situations.

The most common childhood wound for “The Sixes” has formed due to lack of security and safety. They struggle to trust the world and their own inner guidance. Their biggest fear is “to lose their safety and become vulnerable”.

How To Heal The Sixes

  1. Invoke the power of HZN to heal their past memories of being unsafe and vulnerable.
  6. Guide them to self-empowerment and self-love instead of depending on others’ security.

In the final part of the blog series, we will explore “How To Heal Childhood Wounds connected to 9 Enneagram Types – Part 3” for Enneagram Personality Types 6 – 9.

Wishing you love and light!
