Reiki and Pregnancy – The Gift of Accompanying

One of the practices I enjoy most is receiving in my healing space a pregnant woman or receive this news from one of my regular clients, many times as the first one who’s getting this honor because they still don’t want to divulge it too much.

From that precious moment, even sometimes presented in previous sessions, a path of accompaniment begins. Why? Because the Reiki practitioner must be aware of the importance of that Being who attends the sessions without having asked for it and must modify the practice accordingly.

The recommendations I give to my students begin with a simple care recommendation, “do not support your hands on the belly, leave the mother to do it” and keep yours a few inches from hers.

Another aspect to consider is that the mother gives us her explicit consent to attend, but the baby does not, so I recommend opening the session with a permission request to the baby’s Higher Self and Soul to provide Reiki. If the baby doesn’t want that energy, to only pass it through to the mother.

I also start the session by adding inviting the baby’s Guardian Angel to join in to assist us and bring protection that only the highest good of all be received by the soul at that time of its evolution.

For those of us who are Catholics, we cannot forget to request the assistance and protection of Mother Mary, so that she can accompany this mother in her pregnancy and even more while giving birth. If you are not Catholic, search in your own belief system that spiritual maternal figure or simply ask the universe to attend this act of procreation of Love.

Within the experiences I have lived I assure you that you will enjoy this practice twice. It’s amazing the tuning that is achieved with the mother and the baby only in a few sessions. Even if the father isn’t a Reiki practitioner, you can invite him to share the session and to place his hands in the places where you have placed them before, as following you in the session. This is a great way to strengthen the father/ mother/son/daughter bonds. If there are brothers or sisters, you can alternate with them in different sessions.

On one occasion I was invited to the clinic to meet the new baby born to whom I had given Reiki sessions throughout the pregnancy.

When I arrived he was crying inconsolably on his mother’s chest since he still couldn’t feed himself. When I approached I made the opening invocation that I use in the Reiki sessions, including in this case to his guardian angel, and after two minutes the mother’s face relaxed, and at the same time, the baby began to breastfeed. It’s amazing what Reiki’s energy does when it floods us.

A very powerful tool that you should experiment if there’s an openness from the parents is to do once a month a few minutes of Reiki Mawashi meditation with the mother, the father, and those who want to join from the family – siblings, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc. This is a way of integrating and welcoming this new Soul into the family.

In the case of the first-time mothers, Reiki helps to give them confidence, strength and lose their fears. As a therapist, you can also make your contribution from the experience you have. Sharing experiences gives us calm in the face of the unknown, keep this in mind and be patient.

I wish that with your practice you can enjoy these sessions as much as I do and even more, that you value the experience of pregnancy and give it the value that it has as a Divine act.
