The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”
Reiki is a powerful modality that boosts the natural healing process as the practitioner focuses the flow of energy throughout the client’s physical and energetic bodies. During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner places their hands on or slightly over the body. By calling on a higher power and the angels and guides, the practitioner is able to facilitate the healing. Energy come in through the practitioner and is then channeled into the client, who may experience, warmth, tingling, cold, and may also sense guides or angels around them. Sometimes the client may experience “phantom hands” which is where you may feel a sense of hands upon you in one area as the practitioner is working over another area. This is assistance being given by the angels or guides on areas where they feel may need extra healing.
Reiki healing heals on all levels, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally. It also works alongside conventional medicine which should always be continued as long as the doctor advises. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion, it is not dependant on religion and will work whether you have a belief or not, although it can put you more in touch with the experience of religion. Reiki can be used on children and during pregnancy, with children the session would be shorter than with an adult which is usually 45 to 60 minutes. Usually, one session is adequate, unless there are more deep-seated issues then repeat treatments would be recommended. Animals also respond well to Reiki and usually indicate that they have received enough by getting up and walking away. And if anything like my animals goes and get a drink of water. Water is recommended after each session as it helps the energy to flow and remove any toxins.
Distance Reiki healing is also just as effective as hands-on as it is energy. During a distance session a convenient time is scheduled and then the client lays down and relaxes by doing deep breathing, you may call upon your own guides or angels to attend as well, the Reiki practitioner then asks, that the energy be sent to you and the healing takes place. Another way is that the Reiki can be placed into a chi (energy) ball and placed in the ethers ready for the client to call in. Some people can be skeptical about distance Reiki. If you have internet or cable or even a mobile phone the energy is invisible but still reaches these appliances, and this is how distance Reiki works, it is an invisible energy, and the Reiki practitioner is the conduit. The intention is set that the energy will flow to you and all you have to do is accept it or call it in by stating “I now accept (receive) the Reiki sent to me by … ” (name of the practitioner).
Reiki can also be used with crystals or the violet flame. I use crystals when working with clients to balance their chakras and I also use my pendulum to dowse for blocks. The violet flame can be invoked to help clear stubborn blocks and transmute them into the light. This is used when during a Reiki session the energy is not flowing as it should. If you imagine a blocked pipe the water can not flow through unless the block is removed. This is where the violet flame is used. It is important that during an initial consultation the clients to be asked if they are comfortable with crystals or the violet flame being used, as this is their session and it is tailored around them.
Sometimes after a Reiki session, the client may experience a healing response, this is when you may feel tired, have a headache, feel emotional or feel like they are coming down with the flu. These symptoms are the result of the stagnant energies working through the body and this is why plenty of water is advised. If symptoms persist then it is advisable to consult a medical practitioner to rule out any other causes. Your Reiki practitioner is also always on hand to advise as well. After a session, if you feel tired then listen to your body and if possible try and take a short nap. Our bodies know whats best for us and it is important to listen to what our bodies tell us.
As stated earlier a Reiki practitioner is not medically qualified and it is always advised to seek medical advice and also to continue with medication.
