Please raise your hand if your students ever asked you ‘How do I increase the self-healing ability of my hands?’
When you as a Reiki healer or practitioner open your hands and intend for healing energy to flow through you as an intuitive or life force energy channel, you may have felt some tingling sensation or heat or some feeling.
But I have been questioned so many times and thereby wanting to know from your personal experience, when you have taught Reiki to students or when you are posed with an experiential question like: “How come I have never felt anything?.” My guess is that you may have answered – never mind it’s the intention that matters or perhaps “You will need to continue practising a lot and then you will feel the heat or energy.”
Sometimes the answer remains “Its ok…you may not feel anything because Reiki works at all levels and let its intelligence flow without your conscious efforts.”
With advanced Reiki 2nd and 3rd level symbols introduction, I face the same questions. They have to work through thoughts, intentions and draw / intone symbols and practice channeling the energy through their Third Eye or hands for sensing or feeling the energy, that is being drawn from a distance healing perspective.
As a transformational life-coach, I found it daunting enough, though I am not responsible or answerable for their consequences and personal experiences, I felt it was worthwhile exploring what are the other alternate ways that clients or students could start feeling comfortable and self-confident in their innate healing life-force energy and what could be the other methods or techniques they could start exploring before they could start to feel anything at all.
Well, there’s good news! Helping your students with alternative methods of feeling the tingling sensation, energy swirl or heat is possible.
With complete faith and perseverance, I kept researching and experimenting the various methods, it is then, I discovered these powerful tools. I’ll be walking you through right now in this blog post.
When you’re done you’ll know exactly how to improve your clients or students innate self-healing energy in no time.
If you are already familiar with this technique, it’s very good to know that you are already acquainted with the energy enhancing techniques and you can help your clients create their own unique ways of discovering their potential healing energy.
Ready? Let’s dive in..
5 effective methods to sensing and feeling energy in your hands to use Reiki hand techniques and therapies effectively
1. Mudras
Mudra is a term with many meanings. It is used to signify a gesture, a mystic position of the hands, a seal or even a symbol.
There are even eye positions, body postures, breathing techniques that are called mudras. These symbolic finger, eye, body postures can vividly depict certain states or processes of consciousness. Like Reiki, Gassho technique, a mudra is a symbolic or ritual gesture in Hinduism and Buddhism. A mudra is also a spiritual gesture and an energetic seal of authenticity employed.
Mudras also engage certain areas of the brain / or soul and exercise a corresponding influence on them. They are effective on a physical level and they can be complimented with other hand therapies. We can effectively engage and influence our mind, body by bending, crossing, extending or touching the fingers with other fingers and create a so called energy circuit.
Mudras used against a great variety of health disorders are primarily found in Chinese medicine. These usually have their origin in the Five Elements Theory – Air , Water , Fire, Earth and Wood.
2. Su-jok Acupuncture
“Su-Jok” is a combination of two words. In Korean ‘Su’ means hands and ‘Jok’ means feet. Thus, SuJok actually means treating on hands and feet.
Su-Jok Acupuncture is a Physical and Metaphysical, natural therapy of healing without drugs.
Su-Jok Therapy is based on the principle that the body is represented in the hands and feet. Hence whatever is in the body has to be found in the hand or the foot—whether it is a body part, organ, meridians or chakra, etc.
How is Su-Jok treatment taken?
Su-Jok treatment can be given on various levels :
– Acupressure on correspondence of body on hand/feet using pressure probes, magnets
– Acupuncture on correspondence of body on hand/feet using micro needles.
– Su-Jok Six-Ki Acupuncture using energy meridians that have been traditionally used in seeds.
– Triorigin Acupuncture, which is based on principle that the entire universe and beyond are classical acupuncture.
The treatment is based on a principle that human, mind, and body are manifestations of Six universal energies and management of their imbalance can very effectively cure illness in physical body, emotional and mental health manifestation of Triorigin forces – Homo, Hetero and Neutro.
The treatment is done using massage (Acupressure), needles (Acupuncture), micro magnets, soft laser, burning of herbs (Moxibustion), Colors, etc. The therapist, based on his/her knowledge can choose to select any or all modes of these treatments depending on the nature of illness.
Just like Reiki, it is a very effective healing therapy without medication and is absolutely safe and does not have any side effects. After a few treatments one can start feeling the swirling of energy and sensing the heat in the hands / feel the energy and auric fields.
3. Acupressure
Next to acupuncture, acupressure is the next best-known Chinese healing method in the Western countries. Instead of using needles, the meridians are stimulated with the fingers. A non Reiki expert or beginner into energy healing can simply press the points lightly with the thumb for several minutes to achieve a positive effect on the mind and body. These points also stimulate the chi / ki in the hands and one can start sensing the energy in a few weeks.
4. Reflexology and Energy Fields
The hand and foot reflexology therapy is based on positive energies that zone therapy frees up in our body. Again, this is subtle energy flowing and cannot be seen with naked eyes. Free flowing energy pathways run throughout the body through the nadis / meridians creating homeostasis, which is the body’s natural state of balance.
There is a unique Electromagnetic field around the microcosm of every living being and we are a part of a larger cosmic macrocosm energy field. Humans have a life-force body through fresh food, senses, breath and through the feet-the life-force is an invisible blueprint of the whole body. One of the functions or key characteristics of body reflexology is to reorganize the body’s energies by giving pressure on the zone points and having intention (such as Affirmations, Positive statements) to heal. It represents a powerful healing tool when combined along with Reiki.
It stimulates 7000 nerves in the feet, which can encourage the opening and clearing of neural pathways, helping the body to return to its natural rhythms.
Like Reiki the benefits of Reflexology are tremendous and overall helps to create the necessary sense of balance and well-being.
Last, but certainly not least, you want to explore the Alexander Technique.
5. Bodyworks like Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a re-education system for the human mind and body. The ‘Alexander Technique’ came into being from F.M. Alexander, who was an actor. He lost his voice when reciting, and stopped working to try and figure out what he was doing that caused the problem. It took him 12 years, observing himself in a mirror, before he realized he had a tendency to tighten his head, neck and back.
You must, however, be prepared to give this alternative therapy some time. The process works by a series of what appears to be a very gentle guidance from the teacher’s hands, with directions.
These commands directly influence the nervous system and send signals to the muscles to release. This can cause a general relaxation in the whole body. A lighter, free-er sensation is obtained.
The technique has benefits for conditions including: back pain, RSI, stage-fright, depression, whip-lash, sports injuries, stress, chronic pain, certain degenerative diseases.
Why I personally advocate this technique? When one’s emotional body has blockages due to stubborn past thought patterns and conditioning and negative belief systems, it hinders the free flowing life-force energy through the meridians and thereby the person does not feel that Reiki is working on his/her physical / soul / spiritual or emotional level for deep healing.
Alexander technique compliments the unlocking of the energy blocks in the muscular skeleton system and accelerates Reiki energy flow into the spine and nervous system.
By now, I am sure you are convinced that once these techniques or effective methods are incorporated holistically into self-healing practices, there is no doubt your student or client will start feeling the energy flow. What do you think about these techniques? Have you tried them before? What kind of feedback your clients provide you?
With this article, my attempt was to enlighten you with different techniques that have worked for me in the past. I hope you liked it.
Please share your thoughts and feedback if you ever try these healing techniques in the near future.

Very informative article….appreciate the practical knowledge and experience that has gone into this article. Thank you
Very informative article full of information.
I thought of sharing my knowledge about Five Elements in Traditional Chinese Medicine as under:
(a) Wood Element
(b) Fire Element
(c) Earth Element
(d) Metal Element
(e) Water Element
These Five Elements are connected to Five Authority Organs as under:
(a) Liver
(b) Heart
(c) Spleen
(d) Lungs
(e) Kidneys
These are known as authority organs. When healing is offered to an authority organ it heals not only authority organ but also other connected organs, systems etc etc.
