Reiki: The Hands Approach to Healing

Although Reiki appears ‘mystical’ to some, it’s actually not that complex.  Reiki is about utilizing what we all have, but aren’t aware of or even use. You may have doubts about Reiki, and that is fine for a beginner.  However, it is worth trials anyway.  It won’t hurt you, and you might get surprised by the optimistic results it gives you.  Here’s some food for thought: People who have had surgery and use Reiki in their recovery process tend to heal faster. Reiki is a best tool best used in conjunction with other healing modalities.

The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese kanji for universal life-force energy and is a holistic, light-touch, energy-based modality.  It is known to be simple and yet able to produce measurable results. Reiki re-establishes a normal ‘ki’ flow, which is the flow of energy rays through body. This life-force energy once activated can accelerate the healing abilities of your body.

How does Reiki get administered?

It is basically done by series of hand positions either directly on or just above the body, just inside the energy field. The practitioner channelizes (through their hands) a flow of energy into your body. The body then takes the energy in the way it requires it.

What happens during a session?

Reiki Energy seeker, fully clothed, lies on the treatment table. The practitioner’s hands assume a stationary position, lightly on or slightly above the body through several positions from head to toe and from front to back. There is no manipulation of the skin or tissue. This is not a massage.

Many people have reported feeling of pulsating heat, cold or tingling during their Reiki session, but the reaction varies for every person. Reiki is not any more magical than any other modality or allopathic medicine. Healing takes commitment and takes time – one moment at a time.

The reiki energy works with all other forms of therapies. It’s a wonderful holistic compliment to other treatments. The energy goes to exactly where it is needed, which means the person giving you the treatment does not diagnose or prescribe anything.

Will you notice any improvement after the first session?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no – it depends on depth of energy blockage in your body.  You may feel nothing in the first day or so, but will notice some differences a few days later. Disease generally begins in the energy field so if we keep our physical bodies healthy with good nutrition and exercise, we should be able to stay in sync with our energy as a whole.
