Are you a person who has difficulties falling asleep, or waking up too early? Do you feel rested in the morning? Do you sometimes reach for a sleeping pill because you are too tired not to sleep? Insomnia and early-morning awakening are only two types of sleep disorders, and unfortunately sleeping disorders are a growing concern in many countries.
Likewise, too many people do not allot enough time in their schedules for a good night’s sleep. They do housework, watch television, spend time on social media, or procrastinate so much, they go to bed late, only allowing four or five hours of sleep before it is time to get up – and do it all over again. Most adults require seven to eight hours of sleep each night to function well. In the United States, insufficient sleep among adults is considered to be a public health concern. Many car accidents, work-related incidents, medical conditions and other problems can be directly connected to a continual lack of sleep.
Using Reiki as part of your evening routine can be a great asset in creating a full night’s sleep. Giving yourself just five or ten minutes of Reiki when you come home from work, or after you put your children to bed, can help you to have a quieter, more restful evening. Take some time to relax and be especially mindful of your activities one to two hours before bedtime. Doing a load of laundry, or watching a heart-accelerating movie, prior to bedtime actually energizes our bodies, not relax them.
If your mind continues to chatter, or worries consume your thoughts, when you are trying to sleep, Reiki can be helpful in releasing these thoughts. Place your hands along the sides of your forehead, and set the intention of releasing all thoughts and concerns. If a thought comes into your mind, simply see it floating on and do not pay attention to it. This may take some practice, so do not become discouraged if this feels difficult to you. It will work, with time and patience.
It is also helpful to think about what actually happens in your mind when sleep evades you. One discovery I made a few years ago is that I was thinking and problem-solving, instead of intentionally going to sleep. The house was nice and quiet, and it seemed a good time to figure out solutions to work situations or a relationship issue. I sometimes decided I had to solve the problem before I could sleep. Then, I would worry that I would not remember the solution in the morning! When I realized what I was doing, I decided this was not a helpful practice. So I started a new practice. If I think of an unresolved problem, I write it down in my journal next to the bed. I would deal with it in the morning. Sometimes, inspirational thoughts just pop into my mind (so it seems). Again, I write those down in the journal for morning consideration.
No matter what your sleeping difficulties are, Reiki can assist you in finding a solution. Reiki always helps us to find balance in our lives. Reiki energies are always for our highest good. And, our physical, mental/emotional and spiritual health needs the rest and rejuvenation of a good night’s sleep. When we invite the loving embrace of Universal Life Force Energies, healthy sleep will be a natural part of our lives.
