After many years of practicing Reiki, my client sessions have evolved to the point where they are primarily guided and directed by Spirit, with Reiki as the essential “vehicle” in the healing synergy. This guidance sometimes comes in the form of new and unfamiliar techniques, which always prove to be extremely effective. One of these techniques features a lesser-known chakra, the Alta Major, which is located on the physical body at the soft indentation behind the head at the base of the skull. In the metaphysical community, this area is commonly referred to as “The Mouth of God” because it is believed to be one of the main areas on the body through which divine messages are received.
The divine guidance to include this chakra arrived several years ago during a client session. During the hands-on portion of the session, my hands involuntarily moved to that area on the client’s body. Reiki then gently guided me to focus my intention on treating and clearing the area. I remember silently asking as to the reason and was informed that the Mouth of God is significant for individuals to not only receive messages from Spirit, but also to access and recognize them for what they are.
Spirit also shared that, due to the ongoing shift of the planet into higher dimensions, and humanity’s growing need for spiritual guidance, it is essential to maintain the Mouth of God energetically. This involves opening and clearing any unnecessary or incompatible energy that may be present. The guidance carried with it a sense of urgency, emphasizing its significance. Guidance in later sessions confirmed and underscored what I learned in that session and further explained that regular maintenance of the Alta Major chakra will expedite spiritual awakening and development for many individuals.
Since that day, I’ve included treating this chakra as part of a full and comprehensive Reiki session. So, how does one incorporate this into their lives?
For Reiki practitioners, simply include this chakra in your daily self-treatments. To me, this is relatively easy, since my self-Reiki consists of several minutes in bed before I fall asleep, and a few more in the morning before I rise. Of course, I always recommend a full body self-treatment if and when time allows. But it is often several minutes at night and again in the morning. In the words of the legendary Hawayo Takata, “A little Reiki is better than no Reiki.”
In addition to self-Reiki, consider including the Mouth of God in meditation as an effective tool. While placing a hand over the area, set the intention to release energies that are not serving and/or impeding your spiritual progress. If you think it helpful, visualize the circular room during meditation or self-Reiki. You may be surprised by what you observe.

When channeling Reiki for others, place both hands gently over the area behind the head at the base of the skull, cradling the head securely. With the intention to open, clear, and cleanse the chakra, bring in any symbols to which you are guided. For me, this is often the Holy Fire symbol and/or Sei He Ki, which imparts a lovely, serene energy. I silently request guidance as I channel the energy, requesting that any information be relevant and beneficial to the client. And of course, this can easily be adapted for distance Reiki sessions.
Visualizing the Mouth of God Chakra in Reiki Sessions
Because Reiki has assisted in the development of my clairvoyant abilities, I frequently receive meaningful images during sessions. When I channel Reiki energy to the Mouth of God, it almost always presents as a small circular room, with windows around the outer walls. I have learned that the state of this room reveals a great deal about the individual’s previous knowledge of, and attention to, the Alta Major chakra and its significance to spiritual development. For example, some of the rooms appear dusty, dreary and neglected; others presented as a “junk room,” filled with broken furniture, boxes, and cobwebs. One of the most notable examples featured rodents scurrying by while others chewed on an old bed frame. Regardless of the state of disrepair, Reiki’s loving pure energy efficiently and effectively clears and refreshes, restoring it to pristine condition.
In contrast, I have observed many more “rooms” filled with light and air, with soft breezes blowing through the windows as they flutter delicate curtains. These visions always evoke feelings of joy and love. Channeling Reiki often fills the rooms with soft glowing pink or golden light, further enhancing their vibration. As the practitioner, I am continually amazed by Reiki’s ability to clear and cleanse whatever it encounters, regardless of the state in which it is discovered.
Enhancing the Mouth of God Chakra with Crystals
Crystals can further support the clearing and balancing of this chakra. I recommend:
- Rose Quartz
- Apatite
- Blue Lace Agate
- Black Moonstone (a personal favorite)
- Any throat chakra stone that resonates
Additionally, my guides suggest that wearing a necklace with one of these stones can add another layer of protection and clearing.
Final Thoughts on Reiki and the Alta Major Chakra
It is a privilege to share these insights about Reiki and the Mouth of God chakra. Incorporating this energy center into Reiki practice can enhance spiritual development and deepen connections with divine guidance.
I hope these techniques and experiences resonate with you and support your personal Reiki journey.
Blessings to you all.
