This article topic of Reiki and Sports-related injuries is especially close to my heart because it catalyzes part of the motivation and inspiration to thankfully become a Reiki Master & Teacher. In the midst of developing promising potential as a competitive martial artist (Taekwondo on track to first degree blackbelt and newbie Muay Thai) alongside competitive athlete personal trainer all ending abruptly one morning. Eventually leading to having to stop training as a martial artist altogether, after being involved in a hit and run accident while out on a morning training bike ride.
After what felt like a revolving door of numerous continuous hospital/mainstream doctor’s visits, it took only one and a half visits to a referred elder Asian, non-English-speaking healing practitioner at his home to finally feel any type of pain and soreness relief. During this visit and a half, the healing practitioner, said nothing, and simply and very briefly grazed his hand over the areas I pointed to which were hurting. I never really knew what exact type of healing practitioner I had been referred to by one of my Taekwondo training mates, but I trust and feel that it may have been an energy healer of some kind. Even to this day, even as a Reiki teacher, I wonder, but cannot confirm due to not being able to find or contact my long-ago former training mate who had referred me initially.
Up until this point in my haphazard recovery, due to dealing with the pain and discomfort of hip and knee injuries, I was not able to resume any intensity of training (both in martial arts and weight-training) for necessary gains nor competition preparation. Leading to eventually no longer personal training as well. However, thankfully, I had been already transitioning the wind-down of my workouts into a few basic yoga poses to help stretch after my martial arts workouts to increase flexibility and reduce soreness. Yoga also assisted in recovery after intense workouts. Which lead to full-on practicing yoga, daily outside in Nature as opposed to in an indoor yoga class/studio. When doing yoga in Nature it seemed second-nature to try to help Mother Earth heal, as well, especially with poses requiring hands (and feet) to touch/lay flat hands upon Mother Earth.
Once I had replaced my former weight-training and martial arts workouts with these make-shift Nature based setting yoga sessions that integrated ‘Grounding’ and ‘Earthing’ practices, I was made aware of the healing art and practice of certified Reiki. But my heart was not seeking Reiki for healing, but to learn how to be a healing practitioner. Simply because by this time, I had already established myself in a Yoruba-based Spirituality, daily regime that included breathing exercises, prayer and meditation, affirmations, and overall consciousness-raising, resulting in healing/wisdom seeking as a “side-effect” to continue developing/growing.
Once I received my Reiki Level 2 certification with understanding and access to the sacred symbols, it made sense to use the Reiki distance symbol ‘HSZSN 3X’ as a powerful pre-workout tool for aligning for Nature and healing Mother Earth, in advance of each Nature-based yoga/Earthing/calisthenics session.
Now, these intuitively developing daily Nature-based Reiki-Earth healing/grounding yoga sessions have continued to evolve to include intense calisthenics (pull-ups/chin-ups, dips, push-ups, wind-sprints), for physical development/strength, all while soaking up the bountiful energies and frequencies of the sun/Universe.
With the already high intensity being amped up while working out in Nature, I’ve had a far share of training related injuries, involving wrists, elbows and should which I’ve treated with Reiki with surprisingly quick recovery. I’ve found that brief self-Reiki sessions upon injured/sore body parts offers a powerful healing and workout recovery effect that enables workouts to resume within very short periods (within 24 hours easily). As I continue to develop and establish a daily Nature-based Reiki-Earth healing/grounding/calisthenics regiment and experiment with Reiki effects upon both workout recovery and injuries, I’ll keep those who find interest in this as a resource posted.
