During this pandemic, many of my Reiki clients have commented on some of the positive aspects (as well as the negative ones). The positive aspects often center around how life has slowed down. In the past, when their lives were spent driving to and from work, watching movies and shopping, watching sports and shuttling their children from one activity to the next, there were many hectic days. Now they realize some of those activities that required a good amount of time were not that important after all. Life seems simpler when there are less things on the calendar.
Living simply, however, encompasses more than ridding ourselves of hectic schedules. It can refer to less focus on attaining material goods; taking time to cook natural, healthy foods; spending quality time with family members and less energy on the next promotion at work; the list goes on. It is amazing that this pandemic, which is tragic in so many ways, has this silver lining. People are waking up to a deeper understanding of what a fulfilling life can be.
There are hundreds of books, websites, trainings and other resources brimming with ways to create a simple life. The principals of feng shui also provide another way to bring peace and harmony into our lives. We are so blessed to have many resources in today’s world.
Reiki creates simplicity in our lives in innumerable ways. It brings a balance to every aspect of our personal lives, when practiced on a daily, or almost daily, basis. Our “old” way of being (before Reiki came into our lives) may be hard to remember! Reiki helps us to focus on our core values.
Whether we use Reiki only in our personal lives, or we have developed a Reiki practice with clients, it is truly a simple modality to use. It embodies the life-giving lesson of simplicity in practical ways. Reiki is uncomplicated – no special tools or apparatus, no ointments or medicines, no higher degrees of education are needed. All that is required is some basic training and setting an intention for the highest good – for ourselves and for anyone to whom we give Reiki. It is a straightforward, simple way to serve others and to bring healing energies into our world.
Reiki enhances our spiritual lives – and that support naturally leads us to the life of simplicity. We shed activities that lead to attainment of wealth and more materialism. We embrace beautiful virtues such as kindness towards others and compassion for people who are suffering. We grow, day by day, in the commitment to serve other people. Giving love to others by the simple act of providing Reiki is one of the greatest ways to bring light energy onto the earth.
If these claims seem too good to be true, do this quick exercise. Make a list of all the ways your life has changed since your first Reiki session as a client, friend or family member. Then, add the changes you have experienced since your first Reiki training. You will soon see the shifts in your life – these shifts have led you to a happier, simpler life.
If you have not experienced these changes, or feel disappointed in your list, re-engage with a daily Reiki practice. It is never too late to start again. Your life will be blessed with love and simplicity!
