Are you aware how much you have grown in wisdom through your Reiki practice? Look back to your understanding of energy, chakras, the connection between mind, body and spirit, the importance of relaxation and dozens of other aspects of healing, before you practiced Reiki. Think about how much you have grown since your first experience of Reiki.
Reiki teaches us many important lessons, and learning these lessons create paths for healing. Let us begin with the first lesson – the essential importance of relaxation in our lives. If that was the only thing Reiki did, it would still be a miraculous healing modality! – of course, it is not.
Frequently, a Reiki client comes into my practice space with stress emanating from every pore of the body. When she lays down on the table, I am often guided to ask her to take three deep breaths; other times, I am guided not to say anything but to slow down my breathing and soon the client is copying my breathing pattern. There are many benefits to mindful breathing, but it is a wonderful method to relax the body. It assists in opening the chakras to the Reiki energies.
As we learn more about how energy around us affects the energy within us, we can look at our life choices in new ways. For example, if a client is working in a hostile, or tension-filled, environment, there is a cost to his energy system. Some chakras may have low energy, some chakras may be overflowing with conflicted energies, or some areas of the body may hold energetic blocks. Over time, these energetic imbalances may cause mental or physical effects.
Connecting the dots between stressful situations and the effects on our energetic balances is another opportunity for sharing our understanding and wisdom.
People tend to compartmentalize the situations in their lives. We may think, “I can put up with this stressful work environment because I have a loving family;” or, “It is okay for me to tell this lie because no one will be hurt by it.” Reiki teaches us that every thought and action creates either positive or negative energy. There is a benefit, or a cost. We are not made up of separate compartments; in fact, our understanding of being a whole being grows and grows and grows.
Reiki is the epitome of holistic understanding. We become more sensitive to the energetic implications for our beings. Have you noticed that when you have a negative thought, you feel an immediate change in your body? You think of an argument you had with your spouse, and your stomach clenches. You remember the first time you held your baby son, and your heart leaps in joy. You remember the first time you heard the word “Reiki” and your entire being is full of gratitude.
We cannot escape negativity in the world; it is part of the human condition. However, we can grow in wisdom in how to deal with it. Meeting negativity with positive energy is certainly a wise method. Our continual practice of Reiki will always give us the relaxing space to find the answers and energetic boosts. We will grow in wisdom and be able to spread this knowingness to others. Let us always be grateful for the many gifts of Reiki!
