From East to West in Reiki

Since the time Reiki Rays has started publishing my articles, I have got really good publicity, made new friends from all over the world and most importantly came across like minded people from whom I have gained immense knowledge.

One day when my friend and I were having a chat he asked me a very interesting question, which made me think deeper and wonder about a lot of things, hence I decided to write an article on the same!

He asked me Reiki was developed by a Shinto Priest in Japan. So how is the association with Archangels, which are taken from Judaism and Christianity, formed with Reiki? Furthermore why is Archangel Michael associated with negative energy clearing?

My answer was Reiki 霊気, means “mysterious atmosphere”. It was around 1975 some English authors pseudo-translated the meaning of Reiki as “Universal Life Energy”.

I would like to rewind and take it a little further before Reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui. Reiki was first discovered by Lord Gautam Buddha, and he had written about it in Lotus Sutra, after Gautam Buddha it was again practiced by the Son of God – Jesus, who never used symbols but just used his intention to heal people. Archangels were in Biblical times known as saints. So Archangel Michael was St. Michael and Archangel Uriel was St Uriel.

We can say Jesus’ work on earth after his resurrection got divided amongst the Archangels. Similarly, in Buddhism after Buddha’s ascension, there were Bodhisattvas and monks who carried on with Buddha’s work. It is incredible that this divine energy has changed cross cultural hands so many times!

So here we have the sources of Reiki being a Buddhist and a Christian. Reiki is not a religion and is based on eastern science. According to the Eastern philosophy, if there are any karmic issues in our soul, or our aura is blocked and dirty it gives rises to physical and emotional discomforts in our body.

But when Reiki was introduced to the west, the philosophy changed, because as per western science if our body suffers from any physical or emotional damage our aura and soul suffers, as western philosophy emphasizes more on mind and less on soul. This is a classic example of which came first the chicken or egg.

Answering the question on Archangels and Reiki, Reiki is a wonderful and a multidimensional energy which has no boundaries. It is safe and the energy which can be experimented maximum without any ill effects of it.

Most of the Reiki Practitioners, who have done 2^nd level of Reiki, have learnt about the beautiful connecting symbol – Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen. The literal meaning of the symbol is “The Buddha in me sees the Buddha in you”. This symbol can be used to connect to spirits be of higher or lower realms. Hence with the help of this symbol we can connect to gods as well as Archangels. It is by this beautiful combination of Reiki and Archangels, the Angel Therapy and Angel Reiki came into existence.

Archangel Michael was given the task by God to clear energy from a space, remove Karmic attachments from a person’s aura and also for removing spirit attachments. In the ancient times Lucifer had betrayed God and wanted to battle with God. He raised an army of followers. God in turn chose his chief Angel known as Archangel Michael and Michael defeated Lucifer. Sometimes spirits are evil and Michael can be called upon to defeat evil. Hence even in Reiki we use Archangel Michael for negativity clearing.
