Greetings everyone! Today I will be talking about a symbol that has well several view points, confusion, and lack of clarity. I have myself been confused for a long time. As always whenever I am confused I do some thorough research and study. Now, I believe I have some understanding of the symbol and its co-relation with other Reiki symbols.
I am talking about the “Rainbow Bridge” or Antahkarana. Antahkarana is a part of spiritual anatomy. i.e. the soul’s anatomy. It is the connection between our brain and our higher self. Most of us have connected to our higher self in second-degree Reiki! It is the only three-dimensional symbol used in Reiki. It has its own consciousness and works directly with your aura and chakras causing deep healing.
The Antahkarana consist of:
- Mind – ordinary thinking
- Intellect – logic
- Consciousness – soul memory
- Ego – knowledge
1. Mind
- is the seat of our ordinary day to day thoughts and feelings. It connects us to our subconscious mind
2. Intellect
- is the logical version of the mind, where thoughts are more properly processed. It can differentiate between wrong and right and is the judge
3. Consciousness
- this is part of the higher self. It stores the memories of past lives, what we have come to do in our new rebirth etc. It is called soul memory
4. Ego
- this is our outlook in life. “I know” is its affirmation. This is the powerhouse of our knowledge. This teaches us to compete with others. To be superior or inferior to others.
Antahkarana forms a cord between these four planes. Through regular meditation a person can develop and align these planes. We all have many old and negative residues of painful soul memories. Antahkarana can clear us of these painful memories to establish a new peaceful connection with our souls.
The symbol is of four types:
1. Male Antahkarana
- This has assertive energy. Use this if you need to drive in positive energy.
2. Female Antahkarana
- This has gentle and compassionate energy. Use this if you want to remove negative energy.
3. Sacred Plus
- This heals the heart chakra and deepens our connection with the divine.
4. Multiple blocks
- This can sometimes cause distortion, as it forces to release blocks accumulated over a period of time.
The symbol needs to face the person or the area to be healed. The symbol can be placed under your pillow or under your Reiki mat or even on the walls of your offices and homes. You can open your chakras by placing the symbol directly on them. When combined with Reiki the blocks will get dissolved much faster.
Also, I have seen people place Antahkarana on their glass of water and drink that with any affirmation!
Now let me talk about this symbol’s correlation with the Master Symbols. The DKM and the Tibetan Master symbol are used for soul healing and it gives the soul the freedom from the need to reincarnate. Only when the soul is healed, the mental and physical body will get healed. Both DKM’s and Antahkarana remove pain from all levels and can therefore be used to heal the soul.
Before healing the soul it deep cleanses our chakras and Aura. There are many similarities between Antahkarana and our DKM’s. Both prepare the pathway for enlightenment.

Interesting symbols – I have never heard of it before. I come from the Isle of Man and the ‘three legs’ triskelion on a red background is the flag of the Isle of Man. The triskelion or triskele is an ancient Celtic symbol and can be found in many early cultures. Where and from whom does Antahkarana originate? I don’t really understand why a triskelion, or multiple ones, are used here, what the meaning of the designs are (i.e. the Sacred Plus in the shape of a cross), what the correlation to Reiki is and who thought them up and decided what they should be used for. Also, how do you actually use the symbols? I mean do you print them out on paper, or think about them in your mind? Sorry for all the questions but I’m a bit confused as to the connection with Reiki!
Hi there, the symbol has been used in Tibet & China for thousand’s
of years, but definitely did not originate there. The symbol was first given to during Lemurian times over 100,000 years ago. This was the same time Reiki was first brought to Earth by the Holy Spirit. That signifies the cross…it was introduced in Reiki 3rd degree by William Lee Rand…need to print out the symbol for use…place it under your pillow to cleanse our blockages through your dreams
I am busy with my Masters and have been given this symbol in my notes. Haven’t used it yet. Looking forward to trying soon! 🙂
This is taught when you do your reiki master
Oh no it is not – this is not UsuiReiki
More information on the Antahkarana symbols is available from the International Center for Reiki Training web site:

thanks !! all the best !
Hello,
Can we use Antahkaranas with second degree reiki
Yes we can, as the symbols need no attunement 🙂
Since I started to give Reiki to clients, I always use those symbols, and clients keep saying they feel different with my Reki!
Also, I have the symbols on the walls each room of my home and always sleep with them under my pillow!
good thinking !!
I also use this for my crystal grids.
Ya it works well in the grid
Can we keep in our pockets
yes you can!!
does it need to be purple, or it works with other colours? Thank you for this wonderful site.
you can print it out in any color…preferably one of the rainbow colors…the reason I say purple is because all symbols beyond the crown chakra are purple in color…purple connects us to god
Mam nice article i live in bangalore I wish to learn reiki from u if u teach pls give me adress namasthe
Please contact me through my email [email protected]
Something I was taught in my own Reiki training that I still include in the Master Practitioner manual for my own students. However, I don’t use it myself. It does not, as far as I am aware, form part of Japanese practice nor do I resonate with it. Like the chakras, it has been tagged onto Reiki (which has 4 symbols) like the other 2 symbols that many schools pass on. In honesty, mine also in order to respect and honour my own Reiki teachers.
I completely agree with you…I don’t use it for myself either… because it’s not part of Japanese Reiki, but it’s been taught to us so it will come of use one way or other
Mam how to draw this symbol by hands like we draw Reiki symbols .
Thanks & Regards
Atul
That symbols isn’t even an original reiki symbol. It’s been added by ” reiki masters ” who think they have the right to do that. I don’t agree with anything about what you have said also all the symbols are beyond 3 dimensions. They are like keys, to build that energy in to our consciousness as we develop in the reiki energy. The reiki world and people in it create their own thing and call it reiki. Dr Usui would be angry if he saw what people have done to his teaching. Ridiculous!!!
Marcus, you’re certainly allowed to have your own opinion, but be Responsible for the energy you bring here! Disrespect & rudeness is uncalled for, inappropriate & unacceptable.
I am learning so much from this site thank you so much !
Hi how do you draw this symbol and would you use dkm ckr shk hszn with it
you don’t have to draw it or use it with other symbols…just take a physical print out of the symbol and use
Hi there! Thanks for the post, and all other posts. Just a small technicality, it is said at many places that the soul is ever pure, of the nature of brhaman, sinless, deathless. What do you mean, when you say heal the soul. I am sure it’s just a word play, but the point isn’t clear.
Thanks
Hi, please advise whats the difference in the image between male & female Anthakarana besides the size of the symbol?
Lovely post.. Thanks Ananya Madam..
By the way which print out of of 4 i.e male antahkarana, female antahkarana.. etc is most effective n which one to be used for sending healing to other n which one to be placed under the pillow..
Thanks
Regards,
Jhilmil
you can use any one of them for under the pillow… I find it easy to just take a print out of all 4
Thank you madam
thank you for all of the information that you share on this page!!! 🙂 Even if I don’t choose to use it it now, it may prove useful at another date. Knowledge Is power. I love my Usui Reiki but I love trying new things & find it similar to trying new foods. To have an open mind is to acquire knowledge & joy & peace in ways we never dreamed possible!!!! I LOVE that you are about the love of healing!!! Namaste’
Read Diane Stein’s work. Do not play with these symbols.
Very interesting, thank you. Antahkarana Symbol, does it get drawn in a certain way?
Hi, don’t draw it. Just take a print out and directly use it. Best way to use it is to sit on it while doing reiki or sleep on it by placing it under your pillow. You may get some weird dreams but that’s ok. The symbol releases blocks through dreams
I blog often and I genuinely appreciate your information. This great article has really peaked my interest.
I am going to take a note of your site and keep checking for new details about once a week.
I opted in for your RSS feed too.
We Grandmaster Of Reiki Use It With Other Symbol Of Reiki Grandmaster Level. its Has Great Impact If You Got Attuned To It. Its Something That Can’t Be Describe In Word.
Lot’s Of Love, Light And Blessings To All
Do not use these symbols. Read Diane Stein Reiki books. Dont mess with crazy newly created symbols. Reiki is not a joke or game in which one creates symbols whilly nilly. Good luck.
Hi, I’ve been reading with interest your lovely website, and about the use of the Antahkarana. I was taught about these symbols when I first did my Reiki Master training in 2000. I have incorporated them into my teaching of Reiki Master and have been doing so for about 10 years now. They are awesome symbols and I use them all around my house, and in my Therapy Centre. Thanks for the great information!
I’m really interested in everything everyone has said here, however there are a few things which sound rather odd to me, such as this symbol being taught when training for master level – there are only four original Usui reiki symbols and if you have been taught otherwise it is not correct. If you are taught or ‘given’ other symbols it should be explained to you that they originated somewhere else, perhaps through another reiki practitioner, who no doubt felt the new symbol or symbols were being given to help in someway. Great stuff, but it should be made clear it’s not part of the original Usui reiki, as we need to know that we have to ‘sense’ these new symbols for ourselves and see if they resonate with truth for us. I’m open minded about all this stuff, the master I trained under accepts and teaches that reiki is evolving as we evolve and is open to new ideas/symbols. But we have to be given the correct information so that we can use our discernment.
The other thing that always sounds bizarre to me is people referring to themselves as ‘Grand Masters’ and this talk of ‘A grand master level’ – there is no such thing in Usui reiki. These terms are born out of an ego need to be superior, and I am sorry if that sounds critical of the people who use these terms, but they should know that they have been misinformed so that they can then make the choice for themselves if they want to use these terms or not. There are different degrees of Usui reiki to learn, non of it is difficult – it is just as easy for a level/degree 1 practitioner to be the most amazing reiki practitioner as it is for a reiki master, the more one practises reiki the clearer it will become for the practitioner – it’s a simple as that. We are all healing ourselves in the process of laying down our hands to heal others and each healing is pertinent and relative to the individual. You don’t even need to have done level 2 and learned the symbols or to have gone to master level – you can simply be attuned by a reiki master with a fine reputation and then proceed to lay your hands down to heal and keep doing that regularly and become an amazing healer. The symbols can be used in many ways to enhance a healing and do distant healing – but they don’t make you a better practitioner than a reiki 1 – just as doing the master level enables you to teach and attune others, but it does not in itself create a better reiki practitioner. We can gain more experience and clarity with more healing practice, no matter what level we have learned. It’s all about our pure intent isn’t it? And everything everyone ‘receives’ from the Universe is valid – we are all equal – and we are all connected and we are all one – we are all the Universe/Source/God – all an equal and important part of the same energy. Namaste x x x
Very well said.
So true. …not to forget Usui’s only purpose of Reiki was to heal – because he cared. Intent is everything – symbols are simply reminders of our intent and the necessity of being present – symbols won’t change the capacity or potency of the healer, only the purest of intent and belief will do that.
I am a reiki master. Without attuned this symbol. I can use this routine life. For sickness or any other .
