Article by Haripriya Suraj, Reiki Master
Have you ever looked at your hands with a sense of wonder? Most of us possibly never imagined that we would be channelling divine healing energy through our hands one day. It’s like a magical phenomenon and something beyond the comprehension of current scientific understanding. When we are first attuned and experience the myriad of sensations that Reiki brings into our palms, we feel thrilled for a while. But with time, we get used to these sensations just like we get used to everything else that life has to offer.
But what if we could retain that initial sense of wonder with childlike innocence? You may have observed that younger children are often filled with wonder. The smallest of details that are barely noticed by adults are noticed by little children. There are many things we must learn from children. Being aware of the fact that our hands are magical instruments can help us appreciate as well as enjoy our journey with Reiki so much more.
Take a moment now to pause and look at your palms.
How did it feel? Did it bring a smile to your face? That’s because your Higher Self smiles at you through your healing hands.
Did it bring warmth to your heart? That’s because your palms reflect the love of your own heart back at you.
Did it ignite a sense of wonder and magic? That’s because the Universe is a magical place and you are here in physical form to enjoy the magic.
Did it make you feel blessed and grateful? That’s because your hands are your doorway to Spirit while you experience life in a human body and make the most of your time on Earth!
Did your palms warm up? That’s because they are natural healing instruments delivering the nourishing energy of the Universe at your doorstep!
The energy flowing through our hands is simply another manifestation of our own self. It comes from our Higher or Universal Self. We are not channelling something that is separate from us. Be aware of this truth at all times.
We all know how wonderful it feels to hold hands with a loved one. It brings us closer together. The hands of babies and little children have a divine feel to them. Just the soft touch of a child’s hand makes us joyous and this is a universal phenomenon. A child’s touch possibly brings to our awareness hidden memories of our innate state of love. When we gently touch someone who is unwell or place our palms in theirs, it has the power to soothe and heal. Most people are not consciously aware of why their hands have this kind of power but almost everyone in the world has experienced it. In the case of Reiki healing, we do not even have to touch the recipient. The mere presence of our healing hands over the recipient’s body gets him or her into a deep state of relaxation.
We are much closer to Spirit than we think we are, as close as our hands are to us. Being aware of this can help us navigate through life, knowing that our Higher Self is right where we are.
As we traverse the road of life, we encounter roads that are super smooth and others that are rather bumpy. We experience countless emotional states including immense happiness, periodic melancholy, fiery anger and everything else that is part of being human. Through all of this, the light in our hands is a constant presence and a gentle reminder of our higher truth – which is unchanging, ever loving, ever peaceful and eternally blissful. When you feel lost in this mind boggling maze of human life, look at your hands and a smile will light up your face again! Dear Friend, that smile is your own divine reflection and the light pointing towards your Higher Home ☺

“There is a primal reassurance in being touched, in knowing that someone else, someone close to you, wants to be touching you. There is a bone-deep security that goes with the brush of a human hand, a silent, reflex-level affirmation that someone is near, that someone cares.”
― Jim Butcher,
