The Business of Reiki: Using Incentives to Build Your Practice

Articles

Article by Tracy Morrow

As a Reiki professional you may be looking for clients, Reiki students to teach, or both. You may have ongoing advertising campaigns both online and offline, have a website, and other forms of marketing. Yet, your list of clients and students may still be sadly lacking. This is not a problem, it simply means that there is still more work to be done in order to gain exposure and earn the type of trust that prompts people to call you and set that initial appointment.

One of the most effective ways to build a thriving list of clients for your Reiki practice is to offer an incentive for those who are curious about Reiki, yet still not quite sure if it is the best choice, or are hesitant about putting their trust in you as a practitioner. Trust is typically not something that is easily handed over. However, having an incentive and using that to introduce yourself and your practice will build confidence in your services. It will also help you gain a steady stream of clients and/or students in ways that no other type of advertising will accomplish.

As you can imagine, a great incentive to offer when you are focused on building a local business is to provide a free Reiki session. This is more effective if you market the free Reiki session at related businesses that already have a busy amount of traffic, such as posting fliers. This is very affordable and those who are curious about Reiki will be sure to call you.

The best online incentives to offer potential new clients are free eBooks, videos or mini-courses. These can be about Reiki, or a complimentary topic such as using crystals for healing, how to create a healing space in your home or any other topic that would fit in well with your Reiki services. If you specialize, such as Reiki for Chronic Pain, you may want to offer an incentive based around that particular topic to make sure to get the attention of your ideal client.

Free eBooks and mini-courses are very easy to create. For eBooks, you can simply open a document on your computer and save it as a .pdf file when you are finished. Mini-courses are easy to create as well by setting up a series of emails that can be automatically sent. Mailchimp and AWeber are both popular email programs that are easy to use for managing email lists and offering email courses that can be sent automatically at any interval your prefer.

Videos are also quick and easy to make by using your computer and a video editing program. These can then be added into emails or put into a secure area of your website that you offer free passwords to access.

Some Reiki practitioners will hire freelance helpers to create their incentive products for them. This is easy and surprisingly affordable to do through websites such as oDesk. This is a great solution if you are short on time or not completely confident in your writing or video abilities. A professional can simply create whatever it is that you want to offer to potential customers.

When you have a completed incentive, you can post about it on your website and also market it through your social media channels. Since you are offering something for free, it is most welcome and not considered advertising. Because of this, you can gain more attention and exposure than you would if you were taking out traditional forms of advertising. Consider how everyone loves something for free, but few people will click through if you are just advertising your services without a free offering.

Remember to ask people to register for your free incentive with their email address so you can keep in touch with them. That is where talking to potential new clients about your services will help you gain a great deal of new clients. It is important to not just email about your services though. Instead, email valuable information and to build relationships as well.
