Article by Patti Deschaine
I often start my articles with a series of questions. How are things going for you today? Are you content in all areas of your life: your home, your work, your relationships? Do you feel healthy and strong physically, or is that extra five pounds you carry “weighing” on you?
A little inventory is a good thing. We need to regularly take stock of where we are in life and compare it to where we want to be, so we know where we are going. We also need to take stock of what’s going well, remembering to be grateful.
Taking inventory gives us a starting point. If we snapped at our dog, kid, or partner yesterday and feel remorse, inventory is where we take notice of that, so we can fix it and do better today. If we are feeling a growing dissatisfaction with our work or our relationships, then we can consider some changes that better suit our life purpose. If we binged on cookies and ignored our healthy eating habits today, then we can put effort into doing better tomorrow. We all have choices. Inventory gives us a measurement of our progress so we can place our attention on our blessings and release what no longer serves us.
If you are struggling with significant trauma or feel overwhelmed with your life, it is best to sit down and put your inventory on paper. Use two columns and list what is good in your life, and what you would like to change. Sometimes just seeing things in black and white will bring clarity. Ask for guidance from your spirit guides or angels as to what items you can change, and what items you should work on accepting.
Once you have dealt with the larger issues in your life, a daily review in the evening combined with some self Reiki is a great habit to get into. Using Reiki daily for self-treatment allows our emotions to stabilize so we can better handle stressful situations. A spot check inventory can be helpful if we feel our emotions ratcheting up during that day. What are those issues that “push our buttons”? Is there something we can do to avoid situations that make us feel out of control or act in ways we are not proud of?
Inventory is a great way to give yourself and “atta boy” or “atta girl” for a job well done or a situation handled with calm and tact. It is very important to acknowledge the actions of our higher selves and the growth we work so hard to achieve. Practice kindness and love and take note of the way this makes you feel. We all have good days and bad days. We don’t have to be perfect. We just have to be willing to do better each day.
Conversely, Reiki is perfect. It is intelligent energy and knows exactly where to go. Reiki is not affected by outside influences. It doesn’t have a bad day and is never nervous or afraid. We do not need to rely on ourselves to be an effective healer. It’s all about the energy, so just show up and let it flow. Reiki takes care of all the rest.
Call in Reiki energy and you can depend on it to show up as strong and as clear as it did yesterday and day before. Reiki flows directly to the area that needs healing whether it be a sore shoulder or a broken heart. Reiki strengthens the body’s inner reserves and helps it to heal itself.
If your new awareness finds you stressed today, BREATHE. Sit or stand comfortably, drop your shoulders, straighten your spine and fill your lungs (whether you are at your desk or escaping momentarily in a bathroom stall). Let your breath and Reiki energy expand, moving through your body and releasing anxiety. Remember that you are not alone. We all have stress and anxiety. Those of us who are Reiki attuned are fortunate to have a solution that others do not. Use your Reiki hands to brush away any negativity that clings to you and put up an energetic shield to protect you from taking on more.
If your inventory shows you are having a splendid day, congratulations! That’s great. If not, that’s okay too. Welcome to the human experience. No matter how you stack up against the images we are shown of perfect mothers, perfect executives, perfectly built iron men and women, or the perfect family unit, you are okay.
Try not to compare your insides with everybody else’s outsides. There is no perfect human being. Everyone has flaws, baggage and scars. The secret is to not let the issues of the past determine who you are today. You are not perfect and that’s okay. More than okay. It’s normal, healthy and perfectly acceptable.

Loved this article. We don’t get it right all the time. Being aware and trying to do better without judging yourself too harshly is definitely the key. X
