Reiki symbols are basically words from Japanese language that play an important role in Reiki practice. These symbols are used by advanced Reiki practitioners and can help in focusing or channeling the Reiki energies. The symbols can be activated either by visualizing them mentally, drawing the symbol with the palm of your hand, speaking the name of the symbol out loud, or simply invoking it in your mind. The three primary symbols used in traditional Reiki are Cho Ku Rei (power symbol), Sei He Ki (mental or emotional healing symbol) and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (distance healing symbol).

The name Sei He Ki means The earth and sky meet or God and Man become one.
This symbol acts on a person’s conscious mind (the mental body) and subconscious mind (emotional body), and is used primarily for emotional and mental healing, clearing, purification, protection and balancing. Sometimes it’s also called the Protection Symbol, because of the role it plays in providing protection.
Most of our ailments are caused by mental and emotional imbalance in our bodies. The use of the emotional healing symbol helps in bringing the problem to the surface and liberates emotional and mental issues that cause the problem. This symbol also aids in balancing the left and right side of the brain and promotes peace and harmony. It can be used to draw gentle and subtle energies required to ease the feelings of sorrow or suffering.

How to Use the Reiki Emotional / Mental Symbol
Different practitioners use this symbol in different ways. For example, the practitioner draws the Cho Ku Rei (the power symbol) to create a connection with the Reiki energy source. Dalton, the power of suggestion is very powerful. Anyone who believes he can use the symbols will have some effect,whether it be positive or negative. As for needing resources, that is what you have a teacher for. My students can come to me at any time with any question. That’s my responsibility as a teacher. A person cant be attuned to Reiki by distance only a Master/Teacher can do this in person. If you don’t know if any Master/Teachers in your area start putting it out to the universe and one will come at the right time. Its about being patient and it will happen there is no quick fix learning in Reiki. As for the symbols being shown on the net its about respect.

Actually you can distance attune someone to reiki …saying you can only do this in person also means you can’t do distance healing. Energy is energy..

Mrs. Takatas granddaughter is the one that started the whole “Grand master” thing. It was never a true “tittle” in Reiki.
I believe that Reiki should be treat with respect, there are many people out there that see tha symbols not be attuned but then tell people that they can attune them on youtube, facebook and on the phone! This is not the way Master Usui would have wanted Reiki to be taught. He always taught in person and would make a person wait until he felt that they were ready to go up the next degree.
As for “Grandmaster” there never was this title Hawayo Takata gave her self this title and when she died her granddaughter that gave herself the “Grandmaster” title. This is ego and placing yourself above others.
Reiki is energy and energy does not have a brain. A brain is necessary for thought and intelligence. Reiki is not ‘intelligent’. We are intelligent. We develop a deep understanding of the symbols and treatment techniques in order to use them as effectively as possible.

i feel sad and disappointed that these symbols are all over the Internet. They are sacred and this is the very last place they belong….the trashy highway of the Internet.
The “symbols” are just “training wheels”, you only need them if YOU think you do and they are ONLY SACRED if YOU feel they are.
The symbols are important, but only as a directive; similar to a finger pointing at the moon. The finger is not the moon – it merely indicates the way or direction. Maybe a few people may get some effect using them if that is their intent, but the symbols are not in their ‘aura’ nor are they probably drawn correctly; I personally love the fact that Cho Ku Re is actually drawn as a three dimensional figure. Lighten up people. Now is the time to share and expand this knowledge to others, freely- after all the energy comes to us freely.
Reiki is for all we are out of the old fear energy….. No harm can be done with reiki and there is no reason to keep it a secret. Please shift into the new paradigm and release your fears….

Reiki is intelligent, it is energy that we may not be able to see, yet Reiki knows exactly
what to do for each person. There is no way Reiki will cause harm to anyone. It is true
that the symbols are sacred, and you do need to be attuned to it. Yes we are now moving
toward a new paradigm, and Reiki needs to be more mainstream, so more people can know about it.

Dear people who was learned to kept the Reiki-symbols to only Reiki-practitioners: my vision is that to keep the symbols only for us practitioners is old-fashion and out of date, fits not anymore in the Aquarius time. No more secrets! Probably is this ever invented by someone who has a scarcity consciousness and didn’t wanted to spread this to everyone because of the money, but when you think from the abundance consciousness, there is enough for everyone and it is not to us to refuse to show this to everyone. Expand Your consciousness and let everyone enjoy from everything we have to offer to each other. And… have trust that the symbols come to someone when one is ready for it…

While I respect your wanting to help open world consciousness and not keep knowledge a secret, I feel you may endanger people that are not fully educated in the mastery of the Reiki symbols. They serve as conducts of great power and without proper clearing, cleansing, correct drawing sequence and intent, one could run the risk of overloading either themselves or the person having this energy directed into them. Imagine a child holding a giant hose from a firetruck flaying at the end in an attempt to direct the powerful outpouring of pressurized water.
Lastly, the process set forth by Usui serves as more than ritual. It is to ensure safety for all involved. Dark energies can be drawn to fractured or uncontrolled energy, Reiki or other. Think of it in another way. You wouldn’t perform surgery on someone in a dark, musky basement. There’s more involved than just cutting. You must go through a series of steps, including: knowledge of the process, anesthetics, intubation, catheterization, sterilization prep, surgery, closing, and waking patient from anesthesia. Any minor mistake in this process without the correct knowledge could be catastrophic.
I’ve been a Reiki Master for 25 years and know every session I perform is uniquely different. I will undoubtedly need to change my “ritual/routine” to accommodate the clients unique energetic arrangement at that specific time.
In summary: It’s not you I feel that could damage or be damaged, but the untrained masses that may attempt to dabble with the sacred symbols. That’s karma I wouldn’t want to have to face later.

i have the reiki symbols on inked on my wrists – it’s fine. This is not the ice age – since the internet, there is nothing secret about Reiki, it depends on the person’s own personal practice.

Reiki cannot harm in any way. It cannot be ‘too strong’ for the untrained. 🙂
If people say one should be attuned to reiki II in order to be able to use them( which is actually a myth in itself:) ) but why then say it could hurt or be harmfull for non reiki trained people to openly show the symbols ? What’s sacred about reiki is the reiki energy itself, and this energy is there for everyone,like Dr Usui intended it to be. That’s why he kept it as simple as possible to be used. In this particular case it’s even accompanied by an accurate description of how to use the symbol . I don’t think reiki needs more mystification by keeping things secret.

If a person has not been attuned to the symbol a they are useless to them. One must be attuned and taught how to correctly use them. So it is not a myth !-the symbols should be treat with respect and if placed on the net a correct explanation of the process of learning in person with a property trained master.

I have been a Karuna/Usui Reiki master for many years now. I have been taught that Reiki is healing energy and can’t do harm and that you must be “attuned” to the symbols to use them. In my eyes this website provides invaluable information to both healers and lay people alike. It gently reminds us of the multitude of ways these symbols can be used for healing that may have been forgotten. To the lay person it may be a path toward healing.

My question to the group is….if someone who has NOT been attuned to the Reiki symbols comes across this website and sees the symbols….and they decide to draw the symbol(s) to see what happens….would anything happen for them? Would the use of the symbols have the same effect for them as they do for those who ARE attuned?
Using Reiki symbols without attunement/initiation process is completely useless. Things are done to you during the initiation (I’m not talking about it) that renders it possible for you to use. Anyway, even though Reiki energy can’t be used for evil purposes, making people believe it will work as a Harry Potter spell is a bit awkward, I’m sorry to say. Nevertheless, best regards for my fellow Reiki brothers, I hope you never give up.

Before I was attuned to Reiki I did try and use the symbols, I did this to test it, and although you get some results, the power after attunements are done is magnified greatly. So yes some small power came through, but that could also have been due to the fact that I already had ‘healing hands’ anyway. It is hard to say specifically if the symbols merely slightly increased this, or if it was simply something I was tapping into anyway.
I happen to agree that Reiki symbols should be honoured as sacred, but most people assume sacred is secret, not necessarily so.
I can only say from my own experiences with Reiki, but I will say that Reiki is about peace, balance and health, not about drudging up cold images of fear and darkness. After carefully reading all the comments here I would say that a few people need to take the time to develop their relationship to this energy to further understand it. 🙂

i just completed reiki one and stumbled upon these feeling taken aback because i knew they were sacred, but i always was so drawn to reading of the symbols and curious. my uncle recently got married and i told the new wife i was taking reiki one and shes like look, and shows me a symbol tattood on her wrist. i did not kno what it was shes like its a power symbol. Not much is sacred in todays day and age and there is no reason people should feel like they need to keep these to themselves, if people are looking for answers they will find them and i think this website does a fine job on presenting them simply.

Reiki symbols only have power when someone who is attuned to Reiki draws the symbol and says the mantra three times. Without the three parts, the symbol has as much power as any mark on a screen or piece of paper. It is the three parts of Reiki that give the symbol the power. As for keeping this symbol in particular secret, I reckon that if people ever go to Japan they will have a heart attack when they see it all over the place! It’s used there as a sort of “good luck charm” and is in common use in public places.
This is so not true. Your own energy along with the energy of the universe makes the symbols powerful. These symbols are more for us to remember what we are asking of the universe. The universe and spirit really don’t play games like if its spelt wrong or said 3 times and such. It has everything to do with intent.

The symbols are just that–symbols. Just seeing the Coca-cola logo or McDonald’s Golden Arches does not immediately prove beverage or hamburgers. It reminds one that beverage or hamburgers are available, but one must seek them, one must consciously make the effort to obtain them. The Reiki symbols are a reminder of the power they represent, a reminder to the initiated to use that energy, that the energy is available to those who seek. And to the woman who feels her child was somehow harmed by seeing/using the symbols…well that’s a prime example of why we need to dispel the myths and bring light to this subject. REIKI CAN CAUSE NO HARM…the child was not harmed by the symbols, only by the mother’s unenlightened attitude about them.

Want to say thank you for putting this knowledge out here! I truly believe that people like me, who have yet to take the first Reiki attunement, feel deep down that there is more to these symbols and the only way they are going to work is to learn from a master and get the attunements. To me, getting the attunements, learning how to write the symbols, and knowing the correct wordage are what make these symbols sacred. And each level, more is added. I live way out, and have been wanting for years to get my first attunement. Imagine my delight when I found out a couple of weeks ago, that my new neighbour is a Reiki Master!!! Looking forward to joining the ranks and learning more!

I’m just starting my reiki journey ( not even been attuned yet ) but I was doing self healing instinctively and reading these sites have given me a deep belief that what we need ” is built in already ” though the years I have had many fears but reiki most definitely isn’t one of them as I truly believe no matter how you practice on yourself, if your intent is true and pure then the higher “whatever you believe” will keep you safe and surround you with healing energy and love. Second – Wow. Lots of selfish whining about the symbols! It’s like the bratty kid who is taking his ball and going home.
I do reiki to better my world and better the world in general. Keeping secrets on how to better yourself seems silly and almost cruel and mean spirited. Do you only do reiki for selfish reasons? Why not try the concept of universal love (and peace) and think more along the lines of helping others.
I can absolutely guarantee that if my husband (general skeptic but still loves my healing sessions) were to draw a symbol it would not do too much.
I also lost all of my papers and books from when I was attuned in a flood so I thank you immensely for helping me get some of the information back.

Now is the modern age modern era and most people are awake and they start to understand it more. So by all means let people learn it in the time of crisis for free so they can heal themselves. They will need it.
I have a client with a totally blocked right side. I have tried power symbol with Reiki, Reiki with Quantum Touch. Should I be using the emotional symbol?
Hello. I have not yet received first Reiki attunement. All reiki symbols that I know are from book and from here. Here I show you although not yet get first Reiki attunement, I can get the power of symbol of cho ku rei and sei he ki. The REIKI simbols were secret and sacret, not secret any more but sacret because its HI vibration, the more REIKI SIMBOLS are pronounced, written, drawn or visualized, the more vibration is expanded in benefit of the UNIVERSAL ENERGY and do not worry, it is INTELLIGENT ENERGY!!!

When one is attuned to Reiki 3 it doesn’t miraculously make one a Reiki Master. A reiki master is one who has allowed reiki to master them, those who indignantly DEMAND these symbols are taken down (yeah right, you gonna go on a crusade to delete them all from the web?)giive the impression that they are some way from that. Understanding, wisdpm, compassion, etc only when it suits? Ditch the dogma, pack the ego and go with the flow, times change, needs are different, and systems grow. Symbols on paper are merely that. They have no power in of themselves. If Reiki is intelligent then those who are non-attuned are hardly likely in their fumbling around to create any negative interference.

I am a Reiki Master and have a firm belief that sharing the knowledge and making it as publicly available as possible for the benefit of all beings is what helps to keep us humble as practitioners. After all it is the Reiki doing the “work” to rebalance, energise and heal, this sacred energy goes freely where it is needed: as practitioners our job is to stand aside and witness the Reiki flow with a quiet and focussed yet relaxed mind. The less controversy and ego control, the more powerful the healing current.

Wow……..have just read the first couple of comments, and i ask my self should i comment on this…. ! The symbols that have been shown here have helped me as a 2nd degree reiki student. Now whether we are master, grandmaster 1st or 2nd,, we all know we are all still learning in this life of reiki!
My sister has cancer and i am in another country to her. I have found this website fantastic, to bring perhaps information my master only touched on, they have brought it through in depth. As for showing the symbols….. Its 2014 come on guys, i get the sacredness we all do that is why every one has so much emotion to this. When we think of our teachers in spirit we bow to their knowledge their love and at some stage their beings here on earth.

Hi im a double reiki master. Whilst initially we are told they are sacred symbols they are in fact all over the net. You can even buy tumble stones on ebay with them on. But the symbols themselves are utterly useless to the layman unless you have been attuned by a reiki master to use them otherwise they will not work. This site provides a great service to all light workers in thier journey to expand and grow

Thank you for posting this information. Reiki is such a beautiful healing energy. We all know that reiki can only be used for the good of all. I am so blessed that reiki symbols are on line to get the word out and to open the eyes, ears and hearts of people everywhere. I am a reiki master and understand the attatchments a lot of people are experiencing after reading this article, but i also understand that reiki is not a secret and is being ahared for the good of all. We are here, we are now and we are moving into more awakend and enlightened times. Lets not go against the tide. Lets float and share the love and light that we as reiki practitioners and masters have recieved the healing energy for. I know that i received it for others’ just as mich as for myself.

The reiki symbols should not be secret. Our planet is in such need if this energy. It is life force energy, available to everybody.it is not to be hoarded. It has its own intelligence. To think that it could cause harm or be misused is an excuse to use it as power.
You should have written with priority with this article that this symbol is not for use without the proper attunement and permission of a reiki master.

If supposed misuse can relate to you, perhaps a prolonged and painful recovery from negative energy would release blocks and build-ups that could hinder the practitioners ability to truly open and use reiki.

We are all sacred light brings living on this planet together.We are all light. Our highest selves are ALL masters of energy, creation and life experiences. It is only here in this lower dimension that we forget this. A true master knows this and does not make himself a higher entity than his brother or sisters here. That is to include Rieki, which is a form of energy healing used on this plane done with mental intention. And has been used as a form of soul remembrance and dedication to a light workers path.Using these symbols only serves to remind us in a physical way of the skills we have already mastered on the other side. There are no special powers that come from them if used without positive healing intention. Sincere life force intention. As we are all masters essentially, anyone regardless of special initiation or attunement can use them with the same effectiveness as someone who had had years of training previously, if the spirit or life path calls them to it. I find the older generations of Rieki students (masters, but always still learning) seem to have a harder time shifting to the newer rays of unconditional love and acceptance and still hold onto the old ideas and ways of doing things and looking at strict rigid guidelines someone else taught them, that even when called for change remain content to stay in that old alignment. This new energy flooding this planet is allowing individuals with the soul purpose of enlightenment to move much more quickly through the healing arts and may not need any or little attunement or initiation by another being if being driven by the higher self. In fact newer modalities are being created by the light workers as we speak. These brave younger souls are paving the way for faster more effective self and environmental healing, and information such as this will continue to become “exposed” as we so desperately need it right now. I think a problem with putting the symbols on the internet is for people who have not trained in Reiki. I’ve known people who think they can learn Reiki from a book and have no concept of what Reiki actually is and how it is supposed to be learned (by a Reiki Master). If they google “Reiki” and find the symbols, they think they can use them and have the same benefit as a certified Reiki practitioner does. I’m not one to judge, maybe they can be effectively used by someone who hasn’t been attuned, but I just feel it’s best to learn from someone in person, and not do it quickly online, on pages like this. However, it is great for Reiki practitioners to read these descriptions and get refreshed on the Reiki knowledge.
I find it quite refreshing seeing Reike and the symbols out and about. Thank you and I’m glad that I stumbled on to you page. Calm down, people. The way I see it, is that they are sharing the knowledge of reiki so that people can not only use it to help heal themselves, but others. Isn’t it glaringly obvious that’s what the planet and the people on it need more than ever? Why would you want to keep this knowledge and information hidden or suppressed? Yes, it may be “Sacred”…but what kind of good does that do when no one knows about it and can’t use it? Do you think that it should be how it was back when there were only a few masters who could attune people they decided they wanted to for tens of thousands of dollars? Does that seem right? If reiki is universal life force energy that everyone is/has then shouldn’t we all be able to have access to this? It isn’t privileged for only an elite and select few. We all have innate healing abilities. How can anyone do anything harmful with universal life/love/god energy? It’s not like they’re sharing information on how to build a bomb or explosive device. That’s like people who find cures for something but then keep the information all to themselves because they don’t want anyone else to steal their ideas or make the money they could get from it. Why would you hoard helpful and healing information?

I was told by a reader that I am a lightworker. Is this a good place to ask questions about starting the Reiki journey?
I feel as long as these teachings are going to be publicized online, the public then needs to know that one needs to be “attuned” to the Reiki energy, followed by the 21 day “purification” period to obtain the foundation of the energy and the first two symbols given at the time of the attunement, and to return thereafter to receive the rest of the attunement along with the 3rd symbol, its explanation and practice the sequence of the hand positions as much as possible. The public needs to know this before stating that all that is needed is to write the symbols and magic happens. That’s misleading, misinformed and a misfortune because we definitely need more Reiki practitioners in the world. So if it is done online, then do it right! Thank you. Reiki can never be used in a negative way. It always works in the positive. Anyone who claims displaying these symbols to the public is dangerous, is only spreading fear. I think it is a good thing for a student to learn about Reiki and Reiki symbols prior to an attunement. Why not actually take some time to learn about Reiki before making a commitment to being a channel for it?
I have been a Reiki Master for 15 years and have come to believe that there can be no harm from any part of Reiki. I have seen it accepted by New Agers, Medical professionals, and even a bunch of Baptist Church ladies. The symbols are not really symbols, they are Japanese words for ideas you are wanting in your mind when you are helping someone heal. The English words for the ideas you are focused on, not magic. The intent is always for the person’s highest good, not some magical spell.
Each symbol has a correlating English translation (intent or prayer). People confuse sacred with secret and must realize that often things are kept secret to hold power over another individual. I had someone come to see me once that had gone for Reiki once a week for seven years and the practitioner never mentioned that the person could be empowered with Reiki for themselves. The practitioner held an economic reason and perhaps enjoyed having some sense of power over the individual seeking help. Needless to say, I immediately started educating the person about Reiki and empowered the person to be in charged of their own healing once again and attuned them to Reiki.
In a nutshell: The symbols can’t do harm. We need more people helping others to heal. If someone is seeking Reiki or healing touch, they will find the practitioner they need. Pamela Miles teaches Reiki in a medical environment and has a wonderful Reiki book. She attunes all to Reiki. The beauty of this is if you are needing Reiki treatment and are attuned yourself, you have two or more gathered for your healing.
Sorry so verbose, just wish people were less fear driven and more inclined to empower people for their own healing.
I am a master teacher for more then 30 years now… And can tell you that nothing negative or harmful can come from Reiki. Now, Who are we to judge that someone is ready or not to see the symbols? I know people who had been initiated and do no good with their “powers” and saw some who are not initiated by another human but are doing wonderful things. So… who are we to judge. You say that the symbols should not be on the net… Well… In a way I agree and, on the other hand… How could I explain… If I tell you a word in martian language, a sacred word, would you understand, would you be able to pronounce it correctly? The same with the symbols. It is a laguage and, unless you know how to pronounce it, it will stay inactive. And, if a non-initiated (by a human) do something good with it, so be it.
So, for the one who said her son is unwell since he saw the symbols… Look elsewhere. It is impossible, unless he tried to do harm… them, karma hit back.
Get over yourselves, people. Many of you are so full of judgement! Take a step back and realize that you are basically attacking someone for what she posts in order to help people. Reiki can do no harm! Period! What do you think, “evil” people are going to hijack these symbols and wreak havoc? I’ve got news for you. These symbols are in print all over the place. They will not work when someone is not attuned. Yes, I am a Master with many years experience teaching. Yes, I was taught to memorize the symbols. But since I believe that reiki can only be used for good I have no doubt that its perfectly okay to share them. If you disagree, then do you believe Reiki can be used for harm?

I’m a Reiki Master, Usui, and Karuna. Unless you are attuned, the symbols are not activated. When I talk about Reiki to groups I show the symbols. Thank you for this website. I always enjoy learning. You can even Google the Reiki symbols.

Reiki is meant for healing. Why keep healing a secret anymore? That’s like denying someone health resolve mental and physical. Sometimes people need to feel what we can do. Keeping reiki a secret instead of honoring and promoting it is NOT going to help the rest of the population accept it.

All the Reiki symbols existed prior to their inclusion in the Usui Shiki Ryoho. They have been in the public domaine for nearly 20 years and have caused no harm. I think REIKI Ray insights & explanations for people who may be learning REIKI or want to know more about REIKI are a blessing, I believe the symbols are sacred not secret. I am a REIKI master & if my students want to know more about symbols etc, I am happy to discuss symbols with them at REIKI 1 level, I explain that although tradition has asked for them to be kept secret, they have no meaning to anyone who may come across them especially if they do not know or understand REIKI, I believe that unless a person has been attuned to REIKI by a REIKI Master, they have no significance to someone looking at them or trying to use them as mentioned in above comments. How can they if that persons channels have not been opened via attunment? I have the 4 symbols framed in my therapy room, when I look at them they are pictures that represents immense knowledge & give me happiness to know what they mean and their purpose. When clients or students who do not know what the symbols represent, more often than not no one asks me what they mean, but when asked I explain they are sacred symbols pertaining to REIKI, that answer appears to be sufficient. I am attuned level 3. I observed that reiki is sacred no one Can harm other using reiki. Reiki is intelligent energy. Different practitionors Use diferent Symbols. But symbol chokure is same always. I think Symbols channelize energy its Shape hardly matters. It is ones intersions which matters. So symbols even if knows to all through internet are not harm full. If one is attuned he can only use symbols with his faith & grood intensions for man kind.

I am seeing fear in some of the comments here regarding the Reiki Symbols being revealed. Here are some reasons why I believe it is perfectly fine for these symbols to be shown.
– Hiding information from the public creates conspiracy theories. There are already conspiracy theories out there about Reiki due to it’s once secretive nature. Continuing to hide them will just create more misinformation.
– Fear creates more fear. The fear of these symbols being revealed has resulted in people making negative associations with the symbols that do not actually exist.
– If you want to know the Reiki Symbols they are not hard to find – they are in popular books and on various websites. Trying to hide something that has already been revealed to the world is not possible. There is a time when every secret will be revealed – that time has already come for Reiki.
– We are entering an age where transparency and honesty are important . . . you can’t have that while keeping secrets.

I Love You All please stop the argueing….as a student of life and a house of truth i have been looking for a Sensei and one who is a student him/herself. in our growing days its becoming more difficult to find..there is no better sensei than the one spirit that teaches and i have learned plenty but in our age more and more subtle awareness is being developed and by taking away the secrecy it creates a place of peace and discovery..By all means i know from my knowledge Symbols that are charged with intention or meant to convey a message become living worlds and have power. for this reason it can mean all the good but it can also mean all the bad..if anything this is the best as spirit tells me..There are many young ones coming up with this knowledge but no schools to practice it at I am one although i am you my soul is old.what i can sense everyone bashing the auothor sound like you are caught in spiritual materialist mindset….heheh its all right i do the same sometimes but you must look to oneself and ask what the situation conveys to your world..and then to speak with love and acceptance…and as i am misinformed i feel all the reki practioners out there who are trying to hide it are misinformed also on the reiki it is about healing a concept that works only by giving and allowing to let FLOW!

My Reiki Masters say NEVER draw Sei He Ki over your crown chakra because it can confuse the calibration of your Divine…or something. I wasn’t too clear on the WHY we shouldn’t do it. Anybody hear about that before? Is this a dangerous thing to do? What would happen?

If you actually bother to research the symbols you will find them on Public Shrines in Japan. They are stylized symbols used in Medicine Biuddha practices. They are “words” that some have attempted to “keep secret” for their own benefit. If your intent is to heal you will not do harm.
The “hon-sha-ze-sho-nen” is simply a Jaanese sentence/mantra.
The “Sei hei ki” is a sanskit syllable, though somewhat altered by use in Japan after being shared through China. It is clearly visible in the shrine room of the temple/shrine Usui Sensei studied at.
Please continue studying. Those of you who are insulted about seeing others post or share these symbols have been misinformed.

All Reiki symbols should be treat with respect, Reiki is about love and caring for all living things. If a person isnt attuned to the levels (degrees) the symbols will not be as effective.
As for Grand Masters there was only one and that was Mrs. Hawayo Takata, she never passed on the title even though her grand daughter says she was given this title by her grandmother but Takata passed before saying who she was passing it to. So there is NO grand master in Reiki as the level or degree only gots to Master.
Symbols will block themselves. as will the practitioner and the sharing, if necessary.
Please allow freedom from worry and anger, reiki is not capable of harm, reiki may protect itself, and people who misuse it will lose it’s support due to misuse of healing elements. Excessive protection is based in fear and worry, which violate the principles of rei ki itself – and for what purpose? Healing is accessible to all who practice and who share this practice non-violently.
Please, all, no worry, just practice and support reiki in your own truth.
Consider: without practice and study, how does one draw an image or symbol without guidance?
With worry and anger, this is not possible. Peace energy protects itself, you need not fight for rei ki. When you fight, you doubt reiki, you block world healing, is this not a goal that is present?

I think the symbols in the Internet is nothing else that the symbols the self working and healing the net. Internet is all full of energies and it’s taking a major role in our development today and how our human history is coming to be. The fact that I see reiki symbols on the Internet is the symbols leading reiki in the world and make in it be a part of our jurney as humans. The way I see it is that if the symbols didn’t want to be on the Internet and the karma of the symbol and reiki look any different the we will not have this website and none of this will exist. In my opinion Reiki is the way it is today for all our karma and the karma of the reiki system it self, I have just accep it; it’s just for today.

Holy Moly people, I’ve just spent the last few minutes scrolling all of these comments, I first want to thank the creators of this website on a job well done, you’re spreading love and light and helping to educate more people on the beautiful world of reiki! As a master, I see the fear and anger and hatred being spread by some people as nothing more than lack mentality, and I kindly say to you, you sought out this site, it didn’t fall into your lap, you can look the other way, turn your computer off and go meditate, give yourself reiki or find another more productive use of your time than to complain and spread hate! There is an abundance in this universe!

I am preparing to be attuned to Level II Reiki. I am grateful for the developers of this site since the information it contains enables me to concentrate and study deeper to prepare for my attunement. I am still studying and will be attuned by a Reiki Master. I agree with those stating that Reiki can facilitate only the positive use of universal energy. We become channels of this energy and by the practice we grow deeper in respect and the search for learning how to use this energy to heal ourselves and other. Intention of this nature cannot produce a bad result. We are in a huge flow of energy, this year 2016 is a year of change and will provide us the outlet to vibrate higher or remain at a lower level.
I wish that everyone can understand and appreciate the way in which Reiki can enable us to heal and elevate our spirituality. The world is in dire need and we should use all channels available. Thank you and

What a drama fest the comments section has become. Whilst I see both sides of the argument here, I do believe this site is here to educate people who are shortly becoming attuned to Reiki or are already Reiki Masters/ Practitioners.
The intention here is for those who are becoming initiates or are already initiated.
However, I will say this, do not believe that the symbols do not hold power, even as someone before I was initiated I could use these symbols, I could distance heal and I could use Master Symbols from across a few traditions, including Tibetan, Egyptian and Usui.
I got results with these long before my attunements.
I am able to use Master Symbols such as Tam-A-Ra-Sha, without being initiated into Egyptian Reiki.
If your focus is to align with the Universal energy and to use it, then it will work for you.
Not simply by drawing the symbol, but also by knowing how to, with what hand, and in what order ect.. Without even being initiated as a master in Usui I could use Dai Ko Myo And Raku and Fire Serpent.
How did I know these symbols? I brought books on Reiki to learn, I practiced everyday, drawing them. I found the right Master Teacher, who also understood that they are indeed powerful things and he did tell me that some people can use them and to great effect without needing an attunement.
My Reiki Master Teacher’s tradition was from the Gakkai School. He and I share Reiju on a weekly basis, meeting up to talk about our progress and our practice. They do not just pass on attunements like water flowing through a pipe.
They make sure the student is progressing, that they practice and know their stuff, they also make sure that the student is ready in their energy work for passing on an attunement. This is something that should not be rushed. Most people go out and get a Reiki Master’s attunement in a weekend, without even taking the time to really study it, to use the foundation meditations, and practices that strengthen one’s universal connection. And it should take years for people to become a master. A true Master is not someone who just has the level 3 degree for 10 years, but actually embodies the connectivity and self healing aspect on a daily basis.
Also on regards to practice, it is meant to be a way of living, not a cult. The way some people come across on here in their comments seriously make me wonder at the mentality of people in the West and how they take this stuff lightly.
Sure the Symbols are out there on the internet, nothing is hidden in the advent of technological advancement. But does that mean it is for everyone? No.
Before the advent of the internet when I was younger, there were books to study, and that is how we learned. It’s just the internet has replaced a book.
It does not replace however the connection between a true Reiki Master Teacher and a student, nor the Reiju and attunement process to stabilise the use of the energy and symbols.
Like water, life flows and changes course, and so does the Reiki Energy with it. We should be adaptive. Sure I do not like having these all over the internet. But those who are attuned and have been taught will know the correct use, and also know how and when to use them, what order they go in, how to activate them, and so on.
So please yes tradition is important to a point, but also we need to move with the times and the ever changing flow of life, or we become stagnated and stuck behind a rock in the flow. If that becomes our habit the water will fill us up and drown us.
It’s no different on here than written in books.
Symbols are just drawings are representations of something. They have no power in of themselves except for what the person drawing them or the person viewing them gives them. They are training wheels that are meant to be used until one understands and can use to make energy on its own and then discarded. Symbols in and of themselves Can Do no harm. Also I really hate it when I see that somebody saying the Reiki symbols are basically words from Japanese language when they are not. Most of my friends who speak Mandarin Japanese Chinese whatever you wish to call the language say these are nonsensical symbols. Like I said earlier symbols are representations of something they are not that thing in and of themselves. And sensei Usui, NOT DR. Usui ( the doctor title was given because most Americans would not understand what a Sensei was) didn’t even use the symbols that came around much later.
Someone needs to go meditate . Reiki will find you,, you don’t find reiki .. no harm being done here. Love and light to you all x
You might want to look a little closer at the Japanese written language. As anyone who speaks Mandarin will tell you these are made up symbols they aren’t Japanese words the Reiki symbol in of itself those actually say tricky but the symbols used in the treatments are non sensible symbols they are not actual Mandarin words. Also in traditional Reiki the symbols aren’t used by Advanced practitioners they are used by the noticed they are used like training wheels to be used until the person can easily access the energy and let it flow and then the symbols are released and not used anymore it’s only in the western mind that we need the symbols.
I must say , I am a little bit disappointed at the tone of some of the comments on this page. I would have expected this from football coaches and not Reiki practitioners…..very disappointing.
I think it’s really sad that people are actually arguing over how Reiki should or shouldn’t be used or presented. It is a contradiction of the entire intent of healing and prosperity. People who proclaim to be “healers” and “masters” wouldn’t be arguing over a powerful life force of collective energy if they knew the first thing about it. Sounds like a big ego game to me. And also, considering very few people even know what Reiki is, why would it even be a worry of who sees the symbols? Would someone who doesn’t even know how to pronounce the work Reiki , even been reading this article? The target audience of this article is for people who know and practice and are trying to learn more. It is sacred and to be respected. Certainly not by arguing and spreading negitivity due to over sized egos.
There are so many books on Reiki that anyone can purchase with full explanation of all the symbols. I am in my Reiki Mastership and in my opinion, there is so much more to Reiki then these symbols. You have to practice Reiki every day to yourself on so many levels. The only way that these sacred symbols can truly be of benefit is to have the right training and mindset to put them to good use. Sure, anyone can do Reiki, but you truly have to live it every day to feel the energy necessary to use these symbols. Yes, there are people that haphazardly try things. But it generally won’t last long unless there is a true interest in Reiki as a whole.

I am a bit shocked at the negativity that I read coming from Reiki practioners to this article. I see the original comment was in 2013. We are now in 2018, and the reiki symbols are all over the interent. I also have books published long before 2013 with the symbols in them. It is said that you find things or rather that things are revealed to you in the right moments. Seeing the pure energy of love which Reiki is and that it canNOT do harm, anyone lead to these symbols is quite obviously meant to see them exactly when they do….whether attuned or not. Anyone who does the slightest bit of reading and knows that you need to be attuned to these symbols in order to utilize their true potential may very well be lead to the necessary Reiki courses in order to become certified to use them. Interestingly enough, prior to becoming a Reiki master, I could not find the Master symbol anywhere on the internet. It felt like such a blessing the day that I was introduced to it by my own Reiki Master. Now I see it everywhere. You see things when you are meant to.

I am additionally grateful for the way in which Reiki Rays connects us to others and does help to establish what feels like a true “community” of likeminded souls looking to do good in the world.

When I was taught the symbols it was done in a very ceremonial way and I felt that it was a very special gift that I was being given by my teacher. Now everyone I know says that they are Reiki practitioner . I don’t think this can be a bad thing if we are using the symbols we have been taught how to draw them properly . I don’t believe it can be used for evil purposes, IMO
