Five Minutes Reiki – Breath Meditation

Article by Haripriya Suraj, Reiki Master

The word ‘Meditation’ scares a lot of people! They don’t even attempt meditating because they feel it requires intense concentration and discipline. They believe it is only for the enlightened and disciplined. This is just not true.

The essence of meditation is to just be. That is, to be with yourself in the moment and to rest in the lap of your Being. We are so used to rushing around and doing things all the time that it seems difficult to just be. To meditate is to give yourself some time where you do not have to think, do or achieve. You just have to be. Once you get to taste the joy of just being, you will begin to enjoy meditation and not find it hard anymore.

There are plenty of meditation techniques and each has its own value. But one of the simplest ways to meditate is with the help of your own breath.

Do this simple 5-minute meditation at least once every day. You can also do it whenever you are rushed and stressed and losing touch with yourself in the process. Incidentally, that is when you will benefit most from it. Taking these 5 minute breaks to just BE will nourish your body, mind and spirit and also help you get back to your daily routine with renewed energy.

This is how you do it:

  1.  Ensure that you will not be disturbed for five minutes and that your mobile phone is turned off. This time is for you and you alone.
  2.  Have a timer set for after five minutes so you will know you have given yourself a full five minutes of quiet time.
  3.  Sit or lie down comfortably.
  4.  Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
  5.  Visualise a huge upturned cosmic lotus over you. As you lie still, visualise that you are bathed in a shower of Reiki streaming down from this lotus.
  6.  Bring your awareness to your breathing. Breathe in and out very naturally. That is all you need to do.
  7.  If you find thoughts entering your mind, do not resist them. Just go back to being aware of your breath.
  8.  Do this for the next five minutes. Once your timer goes off, you can slowly open your eyes and resume your normal routine.

That was easy right? Please don’t try to convince yourself that you don’t have even five minutes to spare for this! If you don’t have it, you need to create it. This is for your own growth and well being.

So, go for it! ☺

I am attuned to reiki level 2. And practice for about one and half months only because I didn’t got any results and left it for about nine months
Now I wish to start practicing reiki again so do I need to attune to reiki again?
And please so me the best way to practice reiki so I can get results quickly?

No, second attunement is not necessary, but you will have to do cleansing exercise ( 26 point reiki practice) for 21 one days without any break and then practice 7 chkra reiki for rest of your life.

      Hi bhavin,

There are many ways of looking at an attunement. Sensai Usui offered attunements, which he called Reiju, to his students each time they met. The Reiju or Attunement is given and received without expectation of an outcome. There is a reason for this.

In the Traditional Japanese practice of Sensai Usui, an attunement is a gift from a teacher to the student. During this beautiful ritual, the teacher offers Reiki to the student so that the student may begin to remember his/her true nature, which is Reiki.

If the student is diligent in practicing the five Core Elements of Reiki and applying these elements to their life, the student will begin to experience their life as more peaceful and balanced. This is a sign of the uncovering of our true nature, of remembering who we really are.

There are many other ways of thinking about an Attunement. Today, there are over 300 different systems/ approaches called Reiki. The time you spend in searching for your teacher and your practice will be well worth every minute.

In my experience, the Traditional Japanese Reiki, Usui Reiki Ryoho as taught by Frans and Bronwen Stiene of IHReiki.com has brought me closer to remembering who I really am.

I wish you all the best in your study and practice of Reiki as you deepen your spiritual practice with the support and love of your teachers and your community.

Hi Reiki is a part of all of us, we’ve just forgotten how to utilize it. I could always feel the energy I just didn’t know what I was meant to do with it hence why I became a Reiki Master…. My point is people get wrapped up in symbols & ‘am I still attuned, have I lost it’ & the answer is no. What’s important is intent, acceptance & belief – if you doubt yourself then you may block/hinder the energies – my advice to all Reiki students is to stop trying to logically understand it, stop thinking of it in terms of a qualification & just experience it/go with it – you never lost it in the first place your just rediscovering something you forgot!

    Works Really… Thanks

Also if you want to increase concentration, just try to see (imagine) you in WHITE LIGHT or try to see yourself surrounded by WHITE LIGHT
    This also refreshes your mind
I have completed 2 degrees of Reiki
If you try Reiki daily at a certain time, day to day it becomes more and more powerful, just try and feel energy

This is a really simple meditation, thank you. I’ve found it really hard to discipline myself to do meditation at the moment, so this is a great way back for me to build up confidence and get back on track.

However I had to drop the giant lotus flower over my head as I can’t get over the feeling of oppression having something over my head gives me, so just substituted the highest good from the universe instead for the reiki energy. Works just as well. 🙂

you will always be attuned to Reiki once you are attuned properly( one on one with a Reiki Master/Teacher, not the internet,as it needs to be hand on)
Not using Reiki is like a downpipe, without running water going through,it will accumulate cobwebs. Turn your Reiki on daily & leave it on( remember to turn it off before sleep)
Depending on how long ago you were attuned, you may need to be re attuned as there has been many energy shifts & you may need to be brought up to the present.
Make sure you are grounding & protecting yourself, work on balancing your chakras & cleanse yourself everyday. Meditate & perform ghasso breathing to raise your vibrations.
    Love & Light
