It was during my basic tarot workshop in June 2012, in Mumbai, that I came across the word ‘Reiki’. My teacher, who besides being a shaman and a Tarot reader is also a Reiki Master, suggested researching Reiki and considering getting attuned to this healing modality. While I agreed, I forgot about it for months. It was in May 2013, after suffering from a mental health crisis and hypoglycemia (low sugar problem) and feeling absolutely drained emotionally, when I decided to give Reiki a chance.
A month later I was introduced to Reiki level 1 by my teacher. It was a 2-day workshop where she not only covered the subject theoretically, helping me understand the basics, but also attuned me. I vividly remember how blissful I felt when I fell asleep post the attunement process. I had an out-of-body experience; it was subtle yet I could sense it tremendously. Once I woke up refreshed, my teacher taught me the hand positions for self-Reiki, explaining everything in detail, and insisted to keep my mind open and a journal to write down my sensations on daily basis.
Reiki Rays was the first portal dedicated exclusively to Reiki that I came across, and trust me, I never had to look back! It has been a real joy reading so many wonderful write-ups by fellow Reiki practitioners about their experiences and methods, and trying to apply some of them to evaluate the effectiveness of my own healing work.
My teacher recommended I get attuned for level 2 only after practicing self-Reiki (and for family members if required) for ONE year; I did as she instructed and I continued to practice self-Reiki for one year. Although it took months, I was able to come out of depression gradually. I began to look at life from an optimistic perspective, something I rarely did back then.
After one year of practicing, I got attuned for level 2 in July 2014 where I studied the sacred symbols Cho Ku Rei, Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, and Sei He Ki, and practiced how to draw them on my book first, and then using my palm. As expected, the energy increased manifold and I could sense a shift within me. The practice got intense with each passing day!
In January 2014, I was diagnosed with Jaundice and Hepatitis A, and while it was medically the toughest time, I managed to get well because, alongside the medicines prescribed by my doctor, I did self-Reiki as complementary healing even if it was for a few minutes. It brought me that much-needed relaxation from despair and helped me a lot in my recovery which took months. The best part is that Reiki transformed my life in such a way that it increased my self-confidence, my ability to self-reflect, and most importantly, gave me the courage to come out with a lot of acceptance and love after years of struggle.
In June 2015, on International Yoga Day, I got attuned to Reiki level 3A, after one year, where I got introduced to the Master symbol Dai Ko Myo. By that time, self-Reiki became my second nature and the healing practice itself became more fun. It was all going well until after I shifted my base to another country for work and my practice got halted, that too for a long period of time. As a student pursuing my post-graduation, it was never difficult to take time out for practice; however, after joining the corporate world, everything stopped. I was immersed in my 9-5 job and as a result, I lost touch with Reiki once again. I got an opportunity to do sessions for cancer patients occasionally but that was few and far between.
When the pandemic struck the world on March 2020 leading to worldwide lockdown, I took this golden opportunity to restart my practice in full form again, and tried my best to remain consistent throughout, yet missed it as I did in the pre-pandemic days. To get some inspiration, I revisited many articles from Reiki Rays and one of them reminded me that once I get attuned to Reiki, it is a lifetime connection, and I will always be the vessel for the energy to flow. All I need to do is practice, practice and practice to clean my vessel! I resumed my practice again and faced my procrastination, determined to go through it. Finally, I managed to add Reiki practice into my routine and today I can confidently say I am able to be consistent all over again.
Reiki has come into my life as a blessing! From being a skeptic to a complete believer in energy healing, my journey has been nothing short of inspiring for me. Reiki Rays has played a major role in enhancing my knowledge about this gifted healing modality. I have been reading books on this subject, which I hope I will be able to write about it soon. I have also been contemplating writing for Reiki Rays, I kept thinking about it for years. However, it is now that I decided to take the plunge and give it a shot.
I am grateful to Reiki Rays team for giving me this lovely opportunity to start writing on their portal. I will continue to read every article that comes up and will also try my best to keep writing more about my experiences to share with my fellow Reiki practitioners.
