How To Heal Childhood Wounds for 9 Enneagram Types – Part 1

Articles· Self Practice

27 Jun 2020

“The wounding becomes sacred when we are willing to release our old stories and to become the vehicles through which the new story may emerge into time.” – Dr. Jean Houston, Author & Spiritual Scholar

Do you know anyone who experiences a series of emotional or mental outbursts which prevents them from achieving their empowered self?

  • Do they portray strong and sensible personas to the world but crumble due to traumatic event(s) or memories from their past?
  • Do they get overwhelmed with the ups and downs in life?
  • Do they resort to unhealthy survival patterns or coping mechanisms to tide through the storm?

The root cause of their disturbed persona/psyche could be a troubled childhood. Yes, it’s possible that they’re the victims of unhealed childhood wounds.

More often, our childhood shapes the quality of our life in adulthood. The feeling of security or insecurity experienced as a child can develop into physiological and behavioral patterns which later manifests as emotional and/or mental health issues in adults.

Here’s more proof of the above claim.

The Society of Research in Child Development published a research study in its journal, Child Development. It revealed that when a child receives emotional support and positive experiences during their early years, they will grow to become a resourceful adult in both academics and social life.

Now that you know about the science behind child development and mental health, how can you help them heal and live a better life?

According to the Enneagram Personality Theory, a person can be classified as one of 9 archetypes based on their psyche based on their unique set of beliefs and fears.

  1. The Reformer
Personality Type: Principled, Purposeful, Self-Controlled, and Perfectionistic
  2. The Helper
Personality Type: Demonstrative, Generous, People-Pleasing, and Possessive
  3. The Achiever
Personality Type: Adaptive, Excelling, Driven, and Image-Conscious
  4. The Individualist
Personality Type: Expressive, Dramatic, Self-Absorbed, and Temperamental
  5. The Investigator
Personality Type: Perceptive, Innovative, Secretive, and Isolated
  6. The Loyalist
Personality Type: Engaging, Responsible, Anxious, and Suspicious
  7. The Enthusiast
Personality Type: Spontaneous, Versatile, Distractible, and Scattered
  8. The Challenger
Personality Type: Self-Confident, Decisive, Willful, and Confrontational
  9. The Peacemaker
Personality Type: Receptive, Reassuring, Agreeable, and Complacent

Every Enneagram Persona has its own set of traits reflecting both light “Self” and shadow “Self” within a person. We will explore them both while sharing simple ways to heal their shadow self as a reiki healer.

Ones are The Reformers

Light: Crusaders & Advocates of Change
Shadow: Self-critical & Obsessive Perfectionists

They strive towards self-integrity but lack self-acceptance and self-love. The most common childhood wound for “The Ones” has formed from being heavily criticized and punished for being not good enough as a child. So, their biggest fear is “not living up to the standards of society”.

How To Heal The Ones

  1. Invoke the power of HZN to heal their past memories and experiences from their childhood.
  2. Connect with their shadow selves and slowly, softly heal the triggers that rekindles memories of their troubled childhood with loving-kindness.
  3. Invoke SHK to heal their mental and emotional auric fields and their Anahata, Manipura & Swadhisthana chakras.
  4. Connect with their unrealistic expectations which they’ve set for themselves and guide them to self-acceptance and self-love.
  5. Invoke CKR to empower their healed self as they let go of their shadow selves during the Reiki healing.

Note: It’s possible that they carry the shadow traits as a shared emotion or memory from their mother.

Twos are The Helpers

Light: Empathetic & Altruistic
Shadow: Lack of self-worth & Self-Deceptive

They strive to please others and earn their love and acceptance at all times. The most common childhood wound among “The Twos” has formed from the need to help or please others in order to feel loved and accepted while sabotaging their own likes/dislikes. So, their biggest fear is “being unloved and unaccepted by others in their life”.

How To Heal The Twos

  1. Invoke the power of HZN to heal their past memories of receiving love only when they either pleased or helped their parents/guardians.
  2. Connect with their shadow selves and slowly, softly heal the triggers that rekindles memories of their troubled childhood with loving-kindness.
  3. Invoke SHK to heal their mental and emotional auric fields and their Anahata, Manipura & Swadhisthana chakras.
  4. Connect with their unhealthy, self-sabotaging patterns and guide them to self-acceptance and self-love.
  5. Invoke CKR to empower their healed self as they let go of their shadow selves during the Reiki healing.

Note: It’s possible that they carry the shadow traits as a shared emotion or memory from their mother.

Threes are The Achievers

Light: Ambitious & Competent
Shadow: Attention-seeking & Workaholism

They strive to out beat every employee in the workplace and every neighbor in the neighborhood. The most common childhood wound for “The Threes” is being incompetent and feeling worthless unless they compete with others and achieve their goals in life. Their biggest fear is “to lose their pride and identity in society”.

How To Heal The Threes

  1. Invoke the power of HZN to heal their past memories of being accepted only if they achieve their goals.
  2. Connect with their shadow selves and slowly, softly heal the triggers that rekindles memories of their troubled childhood with loving-kindness.
  3. Invoke SHK to heal their mental and emotional auric fields and their Anahata, Manipura & Swadhisthana chakras.
  4. Connect with their unhealthy, self-sabotaging patterns and guide them to honor empathy, self-worth, and self-love.
  5. Invoke CKR to empower their healed self as they let go of their shadow selves during the Reiki healing.

Note: It’s possible that they carry the shadow traits as a shared emotion or memory from their mother.

We’ll explore how to heal the childhood wounds of the Enneagram Personality Type 4-6 in Part 2 and Personality Type 7-9 in Part 3 of this blog series, “How To Heal Childhood Wounds connected to 9 Enneagram Types”.

Wishing you love and light!
