The Sacred Mystery of the Reiki Attunement

Every time I do a Reiki attunement, I am humbled and mystified by the sacred energy that this experience offers to the teacher and the student.

The minute the space is prepared for an attunement, there is a sudden shift in the energy of the room. And this shift can be felt even before the student is called in.

Logically speaking, it is hard to make sense of this shift. But it happens nonetheless and I am certain that most Reiki teachers can attest to it. The Reiki attunement does not need to be understood logically. It’s best experienced through the heart.

The Reiki attunement so lovingly offers us the following-

• A feeling of being loved unconditionally by something much bigger than our human selves
• A peace and calm that is hard to come by in the busyness of everyday life
• A purity of energy that is rare to experience in this world of duality
• A brief glimpse of ‘Heaven on Earth.’

I believe that every attunement benefits the teacher as much as the student. This is because both of them get to partake in the energy, although in different ways.

After every attunement that I offer, I allow myself a few minutes to bask in the energy that permeates the room. This experience feels like meditating underneath a cosmic shower and soaking in Divine bliss. It’s pure MAGIC!

In one of my recent classes, the attunement energy in the room soared to an all-time high. My student in that class was highly receptive and I could see her soaking it all in during the attunement. Once the attunement was complete, I told her to relax on the couch outside the room and to just BE with her experience.

I went back into the room to close the ceremony and to complete my own little ritual of basking in the energy for a few minutes. But the energy was so beautiful on that day that I stayed in there much longer than I usually do. When I felt complete, I felt a twinge of guilt that my student probably had to wait much longer than she must have anticipated. However, when I stepped out, I was pleasantly surprised to see her seated on the couch in deep meditation. Her palms were facing upwards and it looked like she was still receiving the energy on a very deep level indeed.

I was overjoyed to see this! I joined her and continued to soak in the beautiful energy that seemed to have enveloped both of us. We continued to sit in this way for almost fifteen minutes, after which she finally opened her eyes.

We knew we had just been transported to another realm and had had a glimpse of the Divine. Since we reached an ecstatic high, it was equally important for us to come back to Earth and to ground ourselves. So, we did not dive into self-healing practice immediately.

It was 1 p.m. in the afternoon and I told her that the best way we could ground ourselves at that point was over a sumptuous lunch! And we concluded the heavenly attunement experience with a grounding meal shared in love, joy, and laughter.
