Following the publication of my book “Olá Eu Sou o Reiki” (Hello! I Am the Reiki), I was interviewed by the Portuguese Reiki Association Monte Kurama and one of the questions was “Which is your dream for Reiki?”. Here below you have my answer, which I developed a little bit more for this article although keeping its essence.
Yes, I agree that it may eventually be a dream, but I would like to see Reiki acquiring, once for all, the statute and respect it deserves and to be more and more integrated in a clinical practice together with Conventional Medicine and working hand in hand with doctors.
Reiki is not (and should not be considered as) an enemy of Conventional Medicine but one ally and, I have no doubts about it, a close articulation between the two of them would bring several advantages to the patients namely, among others:
• Easier preparation for any surgical intervention;
• Shorter Recovery Periods;
• Reduced Internment Duration;
• Reduction of Medicaments Side-effects;
• Accrued Efficiency of Treatments;
• Lower Medicaments Consumption.

There are lots and lots of examples of the Reiki benefits, for patients, in the most diverse situations, some of them even confirmed in Hospital environment as it’s the case of the use of Reiki in Oncology. Also, the number of serious studies in the use of Reiki is increasing.
To neglect, or refuse to accept, the importance of Energy in our daily life and, as a consequence, the importance of our Energetic Balance, better saying, the importance of the equilibrium of our Energy Body, doesn’t seem, to me, to be a very reasonable attitude. Nevertheless, I have to recognize that the lack of credibility and confidence in Reiki, for instance, is a direct consequence of many Reiki practitioners opportunism, lack of honesty and lack of professional capabilities.
There is still a very long path ahead of us to reach the goal of recognition, a path in which the competence, quality, and honesty of the Reiki Practitioners are fundamental as, unfortunately, not all of them give a positive contribution to the credibility of the Therapy.
Eventually, the creation, at country level (or province/district in case of large countries), of a Certification Body congregating all the Reiki Therapists and issuing their respective Professional Permits, should be considered.
It will not be an easy task as those with a strong Ego or even without lack of preparation will refuse that solution and, most probably, the actual situation will last for years and, if so, the most affected person, unfortunately, will be the patient.

Thank you so much for this wonderful article. I don’t believe we are far away from your dream at all. I am a physician who has added Reiki to my clinic. I have been pleasantly surprised with how it has been accepted by the hospital i work for. I’m finding the biggest hurdle now is with patients and educating them because we simply don’t have enough time, but I can imagine a future in which every hospital sends a Reiki healer to all patients coming in.
