Many of us are energy sensitive individuals. We literally surrender our energies or allow them to be drained under certain circumstances. We often realise that we are energy drained when we receive specific signals from the body. If you are an energy sensitive person, you know how awful it can feel to have your energy drained!
Some of the common triggers for energy loss include-
• Crowds/chaotic environments
• Dirt and unhygienic conditions
• Cluttered physical environments
• Mental clutter/Overthinking tendencies
• Violence, melodrama and overwhelming emotional encounters
• Conflicts with adults
• Power struggles with children
• Lack of ventilation
• Lack of space/time for self
• And a host of other factors. Each individual is unique and the triggers for energy loss vary from person to person.
Some symptoms of energy loss include-
• Fatigue
• Headaches
• Irritability
• Anxious thinking
• Lethargy
• Feelings of heaviness
Is there a way in which energy sensitive individuals can manage their sensitivity better?
A little care every morning can help us sail through the day with greater ease!
- The first step is to make a conscious choice to keep your energy intact and minimise the scope for energy loss
- The second step is to use an energy protection technique to help support your choice
Making a Choice
Being energy sensitive does not imply that we have no power to manage our energy in healthy ways. We do! We can make a conscious choice to keep our energy intact. We can choose to expend it only when and where necessary.
Energy loss is often an unconscious occurrence. Before you realise it, you’ve come face to face with a trigger and lost a tremendous amount of energy in the process. Therefore, making a conscious choice to preserve your energy can help you stay aware in the face of a trigger and minimise the scope for energy loss.
For example, when you find yourself being pulled into a conflict, your awareness can help you take the appropriate measures to ensure things do not spin out of control. You learn to pick your battles and expend just as much energy as necessary to fight them.
To quote another example, if you find it hard to cope in crowded places, your awareness can help you choose to strengthen your energetic shield or take simple self-care measures to help you cope. Awareness is key. Just the simple act of consciously choosing not to lose your energy can offer immense help.
A simple morning affirmation such as the one mentioned below can work wonders to get you going through the day.
“Today I choose to keep my energy intact. I choose the ways in which I would like to expend my energy. I choose to harness my inner power to keep my energy clean and strong. So be it.”
Initially, it may help to state or write down this affirmation. With time, it would be possible for you to just set the intention mentally.
Protection Techniques
Once you have set the intention to be conscious of your energy, you may also use an energetic protection technique to strengthen and support your intention. In case you are not familiar with energetic protection techniques, the following ideas may help you get started-
Shields of Light and Reiki
You may invoke a shield of white light or violet light to surround your body. Visualise this shield extending high up over your Crown chakra and deep down into the Earth. You may also invoke both the energies. For instance, you may invoke white light first and invoke violet light subsequently, to form a second layer around the white light. Trust your intuition and invoke the energies that feel appropriate to you at a given time.
You may also invoke Reiki for energy protection. Reiki can be invoked independently or as an addition to the shields of light discussed above. Simply request Reiki to form a shield of protection around your body. If you are attuned to the symbols, you may visualise your Reiki shield studded with the Power and/or Master symbols.
Despite taking all these measures, there will be days when we buckle under pressure and lose our energy. And that’s ok! However, these techniques can help us cope well on most days. They can help us preserve our energy to live life and make the most of it!

Thank you for these tips. I’ve studied and practiced Reiki since 1982. It was my start in the healing field.
After years of no problem protecting myself and staying strong and clear, a few years ago, I started to get “zapped” more frequently. I have recently retired (68) and have started again to “ refill my well”. These are all wonderful reminders.
