“Sometimes Reiki doesn’t seem all peaches n’ cream like you expect it to be. It may not always feel like Love and Light”
Reiki Master Sarah Chapman presents her take on how Reiki works based on her own personal experiences of practicing Reiki with her children, family, and clients.
What does Reiki do?
Remember, everything is about intention.
Sometimes when you receive a Reiki session you feel like you are floating on cloud 9! Relaxed, at peace, feeling like your whole world is better. Other times, Reiki may bring about physical pain, and it doesn’t mean it’s a lower vibration or trying to harm you.
Reiki works for your highest good. This is what we are all taught when learning about Reiki. And this is what I have come to believe over the years of my practice. Come to know and realize. That means if there is something toxic in your physical or energetic system, it is going to work to release and purge that out.
But, it’s up to you to decide, if you are going to release that pain or keep it! You may be used to the pain or it’s comfortable because that’s all you know. I am talking about physical, emotional, and mental pain as well. If you are not ready to let go of any of these things and the Reiki is trying to help do what’s for your highest good, your body is going to meet with some resistance (i.e. pain).
This is why it’s always important to ground yourself, connecting to the Earth, and also call in Universal Light to protect you when working with energy.
Before I started doing Reiki and even through my first levels, I would always pick up everyone’s pain. So much so, I had to teach myself to learn to ground better and to detach from my clients. I used to want to take on people’s pain for them, I learned that wasn’t helping them or myself.
Once I learned to detach and simply be a conduit of light, not emotion, I wasn’t feeling as drained or overly upset. Now sometimes I still get caught up in the emotions and feelings of others. I am a double water sign, things flow through me!
I’m not saying you have to be cold hearted in order to survive being a healer, although sometimes I feel that way. Because I honestly have so much stuff always going on, some days I cannot take on anymore emotions. And people don’t know what I am dealing with, and will often ask for prayers or Reiki without even asking “are you doing ok?” Or At least offering some form of energy exchange.
So staying emotionally detached from people was something I had to do because I was always in pain before. You might find it helps you too.
You want to enjoy helping others, not regret it. And you don’t want to resent people because they don’t understand the law of Give and Receive.
And please know I love doing Reiki, but a thank you goes a long way in making a Practitioner feel appreciated and want to do more for you. And also have the energy and stamina, to do more for others.
Back to the pain…..There was a time when I would cry at everything. When my loved ones were far away and hurting, I would feel it. When I started doing Reiki on my eldest son, I was in tears most of the time. I was feeling a pain that was probably from a past life of his. Or maybe even birth trauma from this one.
And when I forget to ground and protect myself, I unknowingly pick up on everyone’s stuff and start taking it out on my family.
So where am I going with this? Sometimes Reiki doesn’t seem all peaches n’ cream like you expect it to be. It may not always feel like Love and Light. It may feel like torture. But it all comes down to your intentions, your emotions, your soul’s journey and yes perhaps the practitioner who is helping you as well. Maybe you were put in each other’s path to learn lessons of love or pain.
In conclusion, I believe Reiki is going to be what you make of it. It’s not always the miracle you hope for. But maybe it’s just what you need or can handle at the time.
Also remember, if you stop resonating with Reiki. It doesn’t mean it’s bad all of a sudden or of a lower vibration, it means that your energy has changed and now you might need to find a new way to heal yourself or teach others. Something that matches your new energetic vibration.
Know that the Reiki comes from a place of unconditional love. How we choose to accept it and work with it, can be a whole other story.

Sarah Chapman is a Reiki Master/Teacher, Certified Crystal Healer, and an Intuitive Reader. Reiki has been a blessing in disguise for her and her family. Sarah was an energy worker for 15 years prior to learning Reiki, but she found that Reiki fine-tuned the energy in an amazing way. She learned to be one with energy, instead of always giving from herself. She learned Reiki originally to help her best friend with MS and didn’t realize it would help herself and her family as well. Being an Empath, was always hard to deal with, before she found Reiki. Reiki also helped to change her son’s behavioral issues around, in less than a couple months after being Reiki attuned! Sarah encourages others to learn Reiki to help their family! It is such a great healing resource for any age. Sarah’s husband is also a Reiki Master. And her two sons, ages 6 and 9 are both attuned to Reiki Level 1. Besides homeschooling her boys, Sarah loves to work with crystals and create spiritual art. She also enjoys Astrology and Oracle Card Reading. Sarah strives to bring Reiki to others and to help them on their transformational journey to joy and well-being, whether through energy sessions, crystals, or her art.
