My brother had once attended a Reiki Seminar, when he asked the Teacher, why each chakra was represented by different colour, he was admonished saying that, it’s just how it is and he should accept it. I guess many people have the same question in mind or might have not struck some people why are the chakras denoted by different colours? I tried to figure out the answer by meditating on it, but couldn’t find any concrete answers, I asked others too, they too were not sure, then my Reiki Teacher explained me the concept, and I would like to share it with all of you.
If we have noticed, the chakras are of the sequence VIBGYOR, which is also the colour of the rainbow. The Colour Spectrum lies between Violet and Red. Above Violet is the White light which is Christ light, and our body too is covered with the White light. Below Red is Black, which consists of all the negative energies and is the lower dimension.

CROWN CHAKRA:
The last Chakra in our body considering we start from bottom, It is related to Oneness of God and Wisdom. It represents our connection with God. It is represented by violet because Violet is associated with our spiritual awareness. It’s the Violet energy that gives us guidance and wisdom.
THIRD EYE:
The sixth Chakra in our body, which is the center of our forehead. It is related to our Intuition and intelligence. It is Indigo color because Indigo is associated with following our divine path through Intuition. This chakra draws energy from the Indigo color of the rainbow.
THROAT CHAKRA:
The fifth Chakra in our body, which is our throat Chakra is related to our ability to communicate and express ourselves. It is Blue in color and draws energy from the blue band of the rainbow. Blue is associated with expression of one’s self by speech and communicating our needs.
HEART CHAKRA:
The fourth Chakra of our body is the Heart Chakra. It is related to Self love and love for others. It is Green in color and gets its energy from the green band of the spectrum. Green is associated with the ability to give and take without any conditions. When we are balanced, we our able to give love and also receive love to nurture and take care of ourselves. Green energy connects us to unconditional love.
SOLAR PLEXUS:
The third Chakra of our body is the Solar Plexus. It is related with our personal Strength, Assimilation of experience, Career, Digestion, Reaching ones goal. Its represented by Yellow as Yellow is associated with one’s Self Worth. It’s how we feel about our own selves, and how we feel others think about us. It deals with our ego. This is the largest chakra and draws its energy from the sun.
SACRAL CHAKRA:
The Second Chakra of our body is the Sacral Chakra. It’s related to our feeling and sexuality, also with sense of pleasure and abundance. It’s represented by Orange and draws energy from the orange band of the color spectrum. It gives us the strength to cut ourselves some slack and enjoy our freedom, expand our areas of Interest and in general enjoy life. Its an emotional stimulant and helps us to shed our inhibitions.
ROOT CHAKRA:
The First Chakra of our body is the Root Chakra. It’s related to our basic instincts of survival and physical energies of life. It’s represented by Red as Red is associated with Self awareness. It is our survival and stability on the planet. It gives us power from earth and energy on all levels. Red Energy connects us to our physical body. Every action that we do needs the life force of red.

Palm Chakras are white and Crown Chakra once connected turn golden colored. Thou anointeth my head in oil, my cup runneth over. It overfills you, activates your inner eye and voice, then activates your chakras, the more you give, the more you receive.

I just have a theory to add to this for the greater skeptics; each chakra in the body have a different frequency or vibration, and since reiki can in essence be related to electromagnetic energy, it would then be related to light. Now light have different colours at different frequencies, from the lowest frequency of light being the colour red, and the highest blue/purple.

I also have this understanding from my Reiki master. Also that the colours/vibrational qualities relate to the levels of the aura and link each aura level with one of the Chakras – red relates to base chakra and 1st level of the Aura, orange to sacral chakra and 2nd level and so on. My dauhgther when she was14 years was able to see every color closing her eyes, I never talk to her about it! 🙂 That is the reason why I lnow that the colors for each chakra are the ones we are reading on this article! 🙂
very good article. in my studies the colours of the rainbow are also reflected in the notes of musical scale. and as vibration of color and music are relative it is no surprise that the colors of the two happen to be the same from do rei mi fa so la ti do with do being the chakra white above our heads. fascinatingly this is supported by science who can measure both media with machines. cooo eh? 🙂
how imagine reiki with chakra healing,,, since I had Dan my reiki course in 1996 it’s been quite many yrs.. I think I need polishing it again jus want to hv an idea Hw to mix these 2 things,,, thanxs
the white light being called “Christ” light segregates those who are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu….etc. Divine light is more accurate and more accepting of more of your fellow energies…
Christ energy is not connected to Christianity, it is just naming of the unconditional love energy, is divine energy but since all different types of energies are all divine, this is just a specification not a segregating naming. ????
At first I found this a perplexing question, so I can understand why the teacher at the seminar responded like that. Way before I studied the chakras or learnt about reiki, I would sometimes see the chakra colours when I was in meditation. Not every time and not every chakra. It might help to deepen your practice of inner sight if you wish to tune in to the chakra colours and discover them for yourself. You don’t need to take other people’s word for it.

Orange is a stimulating colour. It provides you a lot of freshness and energy. Also makes you feel a lot more aware of yourself.
I`m sorry to contradict you but the answer is not satisfying. First of all, the colors of the rainbow are not ROYGBIV. If you look at the rainbow you will not see any indigo, the indigo color was addes by newton to have the 7 colors like there are 7 musical notes. If you look at the rainbow you can see red, yellow, orange, green, cyan-blue and violet. The origin of the number seven comes from the number of astronomical bodies that can be seen by the naked eye, move through the sky and are not fixed like the background stars (sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars, jupiter and saturn). The other planets can not be seen by the naked sky and were discovert much later, in the 18-20 century (uranus,neptune, pluto). Second of all, after ”indigo” there is no white light, there is ultraviolet, x ray, gamma ray etc. and after red there is no black, there is infrared, microwave radiowave etc. White light is composed of all the frequencies. There are no good and bad requencies, black and white. And if you talk about spiritual light, then don t talk about it because it can not be put in words or translated through material light. Misleading articol without any argumentation and logic! Sorry!
