Holidaying in tropical and beautiful Fiji in February 2016, my husband and I were enjoying a relaxing and romantic getaway for just the two of us. We were staying on the secluded island of Matamanoa which is a kid free island – so no screaming babies, and no children running around and shouting and laughing in delight. It was an island of peace, bliss and beauty. It was just what we needed after a busy and hectic 2015. This was our time to unwind, relax and recuperate and be ready for what 2016 has in store.
Then everything changed… cyclone Winston come bearing down on the Fijian islands and all of Matamonoa was evacuated and taken to the main Fijian Island. I sent Reiki and healing energy out to the ocean, the skies and the land, and I did this during the evacuation process, so all the tourists (us included) were safely transported, 15 at a time on small boats to a bigger boat, and then in that big boat on rough seas, to Viti Levu.
My husband and I were then bussed to the Hilton where we were among hundreds of other tourists being housed there during the worst cyclone to ever hit the southern hemisphere… and so I continued to Reiki the hotel and tourists who were lined up for hours whilst the check in process was carried out. I must admit I was so impressed with the behaviour of the tourists because long waits and the line-up could easily have sparked anger and rage, however everyone was cool, calm and collected.
A few hours of arriving in our room, the worst of the weather hit. It was the loudest and most frightening thing I have ever heard. The wind screamed and howled.. it was terrifying and my words don’t capture the fear. We sat in our king sized bed as water began to surge in under the front door bringing with it leaves and gunk from outside. We then heard gurgling noises from our bathroom and my husband went to investigate only to learn the seals around the window were not holding and water was pouring into the bathroom. Meanwhile the storm raged on and we could hear things from outside smashing and crashing into the building. It was constant and it was relentless.
The wind was screaming, the water gushing and rushing into our room, and the missiles hitting the building…it was frightening and scary, and yet we used our logic and we used the Hilton’s fancy dressing gowns for a very good purpose – we used them to block as best as possible the water coming into our room. I’m sure they won’t have cared.
Also I sat sending Reiki – I sat on our king sized bed, with its fancy blankets and plush pillows, and I sent out Reiki to all the people, all the animals, the lands, the oceans, the air. I sent Reiki with so much love and light, asking Reiki for the highest good of all to keep Fiji safe.
In a situation like this, there is not much one can do but to send Reiki and to know that whatever happens is for a reason. I sat there giving Reiki until finally I fell asleep.
The next day it was heartbreaking to see the devastation and to learn of the deaths that had occurred during the night.
Here is a video of the storm after the worst of it had receded and this isn’t even the actual cyclone event.. this is the next day:
