Article by Deborah Lloyd, Reiki Master
If you are reading this article, it means you own, or have access to, a computer. And, you are probably rich enough not to have to deal with the problem of hunger often, if at all. There are millions of people who face the threat of hunger on a daily basis. Did you know that in today’s world, 1 out of 9 people do not have enough food to remain healthy? Approximately 45% of deaths in children under 5 years old is due to poor nutrition – this equals 3.1 million children per year. (For more information, see the World Food Programme on the United Nations’ website, wfp.org.)
As we grow in our understanding of spiritual responsibility, we cannot ignore the many problems existing in today’s world. These facts about hunger, as well as other overwhelming global challenges, are begging for the interventions of dedicated lightworkers. As Reiki practitioners, it is easy to become focused on our own small circles of family, friends and clients. That is a good beginning, but bringing positive energy to worldly problems is also essential.
All great solutions begin with one person who believed s/he could make a difference. There are many ways to be a part of turning the tide, to promote healthy living for all people.
Here are some ideas – and add your own:
- Eat local foods
- Buy fair trade food products, to insure fair wages for farmers and laborers in other countries (coffee, chocolate, bananas, etc.)
- Buy fair trade products (clothing, jewelry, decorative items) for gifts and for yourself, to support small businesses in developing countries
- Conserve all natural resources
- Financially support international programs
- Become involved in local hunger programs
- Become informed, and inform others within your small circles
- Send positive energy and light to others who assist in charitable efforts
Reiki helps each of us to become more compassionate, and empowered. With this healing energy and spiritual guidance, we can truly become change agents. Change agents are people who are catalysts, facilitating change within large systems. Usually, this refers to managers in corporations, community organizers, or directors of social service enterprises. Reiki practitioners are also change agents; we primarily work with the energetic systems of individuals. But, as each person brings healing energy into his/her being individually, the energetic system of that person radiates a loving presence in the world. Add positive, intentional action, for the highest good of all, and true change happens.
Become a Reiki change agent! Let’s all work together to end world hunger.
