Do you have Mixed Emotions about Your Reiki Master?
In the past few years, I’ve been contacted by several Reiki practitioners, who had mixed emotions about their Reiki Master. One said it seemed her Reiki Master was always rushed, wanting to get through classes quickly; it seemed her only goal was to make money. Another said his Reiki Master was not available for questions after the training was completed. A third reported her Reiki Master did not focus on the spiritual aspects of Reiki at all, and she felt she had missed out on a most important aspect. Whether or not these allegations are truly accurate is not the issue. The issue is that these Reiki practitioners have perceptions that can affect their ongoing use of Reiki! Bringing in any kind of negative thoughts and energies to a Reiki session is never helpful.
In each of these cases, the Reiki practitioner had mixed emotions and took the time and effort to process exactly what was bothering them. Identifying the exact cause of uncomfortable feelings is necessary. The practitioner can then decide if the cause is one they can accept and move on; or, if further actions are needed. There may be life lessons for both the Reiki Master and the student in these situations.
In the first case above, the practitioner decided perhaps she was being too judgmental. For the most part, she felt comfortable with her Reiki Master. She decided to give her another chance and scheduled a Reiki session with her. What she discovered was her Reiki Master’s true compassion and sincerity. After the session, she shared her feelings about the trainings with her Master. Her Master thanked her for her input, stating she has a lot of anxiety when she teaches. She worries about trying to cover all the material in a short period of time, and giving incorrect information. Also, the class the practitioner attended was the largest class this Master ever had, making her feel more anxious than ever. The Master thanked the student for her honesty, stating she would become more aware of how she comes across to her students.
In the second situation, I suggested to the Reiki practitioner that he make one more attempt to contact his Reiki Master. He did, and reported back his Reiki Master responded to his email this time. She had been providing care to her ill mother for the past few months and had not been available. She apologized for not communicating this to her students, because she had been overwhelmed by all her new responsibilities.
In the third case, I had several conversations with the practitioner. We decided that I would provide a private two-hour teaching session. We would explore the spiritual aspects that were important to her. The session would end with a reattunement so that she would feel confident in her practice. While both of us understood that her original attunements were effective, a reattunement would clear any negative emotions that she might be holding.
The important aspect of these examples is the recognition that negative emotions and Reiki are not a good combination. Become aware of your feelings, and decide what actions are necessary. It may be helpful to discuss your concerns with a third, objective practitioner, perhaps another Reiki Master. Whatever you do, do not give up on Reiki! Use Reiki for guidance, to determine what you need to do to heal your experience.
