An investment is an asset or an item acquired with the goal of generating an income or appreciation. When you invest you are committing a resource in the expectation of a future benefit. The important words in this statement are appreciation, expectation and benefit. So I must ask you a simple question requiring an even simpler straight forward answer of yes, or no. Are you a good investment?
Most people will automatically think money and a financial investment is a result of living in a materialistic society, but the investment I refer to is you as a person, are you as you are at this moment in time a good investment? Are you worth the investment of someone’s time, effort and energy, more importantly are you worth taking the time to invest in yourself? Do you appreciate and value yourself sufficiently to invest time, effort and energy in your own health and wellbeing, do you see yourself as worthy of this personal commitment and long term investment?
When we put stringent financial safeguards in place to protect an investment we don’t think of it as selfish or self-centred, we see it as sound business practice, but when it comes to viewing ourselves as a valuable finite resource the same common sense, logic and reasoning fly out of the window. For the majority of people the value of their self-worth and self-esteem is set by others, but what we need to remember is the conditioning setting these values always favours the person doing the conditioning. So your value as a person is set by their selfish standards and not by your true self-worth, and another person’s value of you will always be influenced by their own needs. A selfish person will always value their own needs above their commitment and investment in you.
Do you see yourself as a good and worthwhile investment? Do you commit your time, effort and energy in your health, happiness and wellbeing to safeguard your future? Do you think you are worth investing in healthy eating and exercise, are you worth taking time out to meditate and still the mind. Are you worth the time to develop the mental and emotional discipline necessary to remove unnecessary stress anxiety and tension from your life? Are you worth what it takes to set and enforce healthy boundaries ensuring relationships reflect and support your true self-worth?
Are you a good investment? You are your most precious possession and your most valuable resource but you alone must decide if you are a good investment.
