Article by Nicholas Harris
The world changed dramatically. And it changed quickly. Safety and control were taken away. Humanity experienced a group trauma. And now there is more separation.
“The virus is real” vs “The virus is a conspiracy.”
“The governments are helping us” vs “The governments are controlling us.”
“Us” versus “them” – AGAIN.
Separation. The antipathies of healing.
So let’s look to unity. Let’s look to peace. Let’s look to healing.
In this article, I introduce “The Journey of the Coronavirus”. Because this is the journey that we are all on.
Step 1. “Uncovering the journey”
To find emotional health, we need to focus on our emotions and heal emotional pain.
And to do that we have to see the journey.
The journey of the coronavirus is a three-step process that takes us from resistance and denial to openness and adaptability.
The journey is a process of healing Fear and transforming into Love.
The first step of the journey is to recognise it. Because recognition is the basis of intention that will shape everything to follow.
The truth is that there is a great deal over which we have no control. Focusing on what you cannot control is a cause of anxiety, separation, and fear.
However when you learn to focus on your feelings, you will find inner control and be able to bring peace into any personal challenge in your life.
For years, I have taught my Reiki students that healing is the journey toward wholeness.
To be healed is to be at peace with the world exactly as it is. To be at peace even in the presence of the coronavirus…
Opening to the journey will:
- Empower you to evolve through the coronavirus.
- Help you to become stronger, wiser and more helpful to the people that you care about.
- Set your intention to move through this challenging time with grace, presence and love.
Step 2. “Healing emotional pain”
The second stage of the journey is to heal the emotional pain currently being triggered by the story of the coronavirus.
While we are all experiencing the same virus and similar insecurities and lockdowns, the virus has triggered very different emotional responses inside of us.
Those responses relate to your personal emotional structure. The feelings that you feel today are related to what has not been healed from the past.
Because unresolved trauma creates patterns that repeat over time.
As you begin to look at things a little differently, I would like to invite you to take a moment… close your eyes… and breath.
Bring the challenges that you have recently experienced into your heart and focus on the feelings.
Ask yourself:
“Have I felt these same feelings before”.
“When was the first time I felt these feelings.”
Breath all of the way in and all of the way out. Feel safe to feel. Because feeling is the first step of healing.
When you breath out… gently whisper to yourself “safe” and smile at the end of your breath.
Feel safe to feel now.
I would like to invite you to shift your perspective from the world outside of you to the emotions inside of you… and explore ways to heal them.
Because every moment of feeling is an opportunity for healing.
Self Reiki practice is one way to create the safety to feel. Because everything that is felt begins to transform.
When you need it, reach out for support from a place of responsibility and permission.
Own your feels and use your pain as fuel for intimacy and growth.
Each one of us can find peace no matter what is happening in the world outside of us.
That is the fundamental goal of all of our healing.
Step 3. “Finding Meaning”
The final step of the journey is to find meaning for this all.
When you change the meaning you give something, it changes the entire frame through which you look at it.
Healing is a change of perspective.
When your thoughts change, your feelings will change. And when your feelings change, your thoughts will change.
Ask yourself:
“How can this work for me?”
“What is the opportunity here?”
“How can I use this time wisely?”
Because we all have so much time now!
Intend to consciously find a sense of meaning that helps you to access higher emotional states that will help you in every way.
You see, meaning is very much something that you can choose.
In my webinar series “Emotional Health in Social Isolation”, one of the attendees said that the entire world had been forced into a meditation retreat. What a wonderful perspective!
In the time before the virus, there was so much “busy-ness” in our world. We were overwhelmed by technology, with little time to spend time with loved ones or consciously choose the next steps we might want to take in our lives.
Now everyone has had a universal time out and an opportunity to consciously choose how we wish to evolve into the world. I believe that the world is on the brink of rebirth and that this is a time of collective evolution.
We live in the duality. Where there is darkness, there is Light – it is all a reflection.
There will be challenges and there will be fear… yet there will also be Love.
The question is which do we choose?
As healers, it is our job to be the Force of Light in the world.
It is said that Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world, change within the one is change within the whole”.
I say…
- Focus on what you can control. Use challenges as growth. Focus on your feelings. Practice the tools you know. Learn new things.
- Spend time with the people that you love. Look after the people that you care about.
- Find a meaning for this all so that one day you can look back and tell your children what a powerful time the coronavirus was….
Please be well!
Namaste
