Do you ever think you take life too seriously? If you make a minor mistake, do you criticize yourself silently? Or, do you take the opportunity to laugh at yourself? Are you able to recognize – and appreciate – the opportunities for humor in your life?
Taking life too seriously, and not being able to laugh at yourself, is a message that several of my Reiki clients have received recently. In each case, the client is a somewhat thoughtful, contemplative person striving to do the “right thing” all the time.
When explored further, there is an element of judgment within the categories of right vs. wrong. Life choices are generally not diametrically opposed. Usually, there are a multitude of choices, and what is “right” for one person is not necessarily the best thing for another. Or, what is a good choice for any of us at the present time in our lives may not be the best thing a year from now, or a month from now.
One of the great lessons of Reiki is to maintain a good balance in our lives. In today’s world, it seems many of us are consumed by demanding jobs, financial problems or challenging relationships. Being able to add energetic balance through laughter is a gift. Laughter produces positive energy within our beings. It brings lightness and joy into our lives. It can prevent energetic blocks from forming within our energetic bodies.
An example of this was a client who accepted a new job and found the atmosphere in the new office was almost as tense and stress-filled than the one she just left. She was full of self-recrimination and shame. The healing energies of Reiki assisted her in releasing these negative thoughts and feelings. She was able to consider the many benefits of this new position – maybe it was not a mistake after all.
This client was able to broaden her perspective and find the humor within the situation. Rather than being upset about how her new coworkers interacted with each other, she found the humor in it. And, best of all, she was able to laugh at her first reactions towards the office atmosphere. She realized her expectations of how people should interact with each other in a workplace were unrealistic. She realized she had to re-experience a difficult atmosphere again, because she did not learn the lessons the first time. When an experience is repeated, Spirit is saying: “you didn’t get it before, let’s try it again.” The session ended with her gently laughing at herself.
Have you ever received a message from Spirit that had a humorous tone? It is a reminder to not take life so seriously. It is good to find the humor in the situations we create in our lives. It is good to be silly, or to watch a funny movie. It balances the trying day we had at work, or the tension within our homes.
When doing Reiki, set the intention to bring more laughter into your life – it will work!
