Winter can be an unpleasant time of year for many people who like to be in the sun, enjoy outdoor summer activities, and appreciate longer daylight hours.
For many years, I struggled with the seasonal blues during the late Fall to early Spring. It wasn’t just the winter blues. As soon as daylight savings rolled around, I was became a different person.
I tried everything from sunlamps to taking extra Vitamin D supplements. Some of it helped but overall, my mood was for the most part very low.
Then, through research and learning more about energy healing, I realized how each season has its intrinsic energy. By observing what’s going on in nature throughout the year, I learned how to make the most of the energy of each season, especially winter!
Having been born and raised in Hawaii, then going to college in Boston, I felt like a zebra in the Arctic. After four years, New England winters did not magically transform me into a polar bear.
In fact, I was so afraid of winters, I started getting the blues during the winter as soon as the leaves changed colors in October. What seems to be the favorite time of year for many, not so much for me!
Sure, the orange and yellow leaves were beautiful, but it was an indicator that summer was over and the next 4 months (usually longer because yes, I do count!) was going to be uncomfortably cold. It’s been a decade since I’ve lived in the “Arctic” but throughout my professional life, I’ve actually lived in cities with colder winters.
If you are like me and get the winter blues, applying the Reiki self-treatment hand positions while intoning the Se He Ki symbol during morning meditation can help to restore an overall sense of balance in the mind and body.
As Reiki healing energy works with the law of attraction, applying Reiki self-healing may help to improve your mood and help overcome the feelings of sadness during the darker days of winter. With the relaxing benefits of Reiki, this can also help ease anxious thoughts throughout the day.
Furthermore, when taking proactive measures, you may feel more in control of your life. By applying Reiki self-treatment, the practice helps to restore feelings of control since we can sometimes feel helpless when the weather is out of our control.
When we understand the different energies of the seasons, we’re also able to better manage our own energy accordingly. This way we can bring about more peace and balance into our busy lifestyle throughout the day.
In the past, ancient cultures followed the seasons very closely because life was built around the fall, spring, winter and summer. They lived a lifestyle “close to the earth”.
In the today’s world, our modern homes and offices tend to secludes us from the seasons. Also, our daily routines mirror this “insulation” as well. Regardless of the weather outside, we get up and go to work. We generally live the same way, day in, day out, season to season.
In many ways, living a modern lifestyle allows us to stay productive all year long. Plus, it’s nice to not have to save food in the winter or even be outside when it’s below freezing! But even in these advanced times, it’s helpful to understand what is going on in nature. After all, we are made up of energy. So essentially, we are a part of nature.
We can never completely escape the changing influences of the seasons. And why should we? We can use the surrounding energies to improve the quality of our lives!
Mindset is key during the days of less sunlight. In addition to practicing Reiki to help ease the winter blues, remember that energy flows where the mind goes.
Winter is the time for manifesting goals. Less daylight hours bring about time for introspection. This is the time to visualize and manifest new possibilities.
So ask yourself: How might it feel to change jobs? To start learn something new? To speak your truth? How would it feel to eat healthier?
As months become colder, our energy tends to shift to calmer levels and resonate with our surroundings of winter stillness. This gives us space to take it easy and breathing room to recuperate.
The manifesting energy inspires us to use our creativity. It gives us a range of new, exciting options from which we can choose.
If we were in tune with the season, we would set up our winter routines to allow for free time to daydream, make art and create new visions.
Without an energizing vision, we are likely to become bored with our lives. Once we get stuck in a rut, our passionate emotional energy declines. If you find yourself hitting a wall, incorporate simple Reiki energy healing strategies to help clear these blocks.
Winter is a good time for us to review all our options, examine our fears and explore potential choices for the upcoming spring season. Sometimes this means going to sleep earlier because the nights are longer or spending more time indoors, alone or with others.
Either way, winter is nature’s permission for us to use the time to recharge our energy and manifest our goals for the upcoming new year. May you have a winter filled with many silver linings this year!
