My new client told me she scheduled a Reiki session for “undiagnosed stomach pain”. She explained she had been through a battery of medical tests and procedures to determine what was causing these persistent pains, and so far, no disease or physical abnormality had been found. She read some information about Reiki on the Internet and thought it was worth a try.
As soon as the Reiki energies started, she began to relax, bringing calmness to her energy fields. As the session progressed, the three lower chakras held intense energies – of anger, frustration and melancholy. While some emotional blocks were released, it seemed there was a resistance to releasing others. It felt like a strong, protective wall had been built around her chakras, blocking the flow of positive energies into her system.
After the session, we talked about her energetic levels, and I told her about the emotional blocks I detected. She acknowledged having lots of anger towards several people who had hurt her deeply. Her feelings were palpable, and her facial expressions became tense and tight. It was clear the anger was powerful and continued to affect her physical and emotional being. Then, she acknowledged she is not ready to let this anger go. Gently, I introduced the concept that the anger may be one of the main reasons of her stomach distress, explaining the mind/body/spirit concept. This resonated with her, as she realized the high price of allowing the anger to overpower her life.
Anger can be a fiery, powerful emotion. Many people who hold onto anger feel justified, as they focus on the injustice and unfairness of life. And, they may be right! Life is often unfair, as we experience betrayal, mistreatment or other personal violations. At its core, however, anger does not affect the one who hurt us. Rather, it hurts the one holding onto the anger, as it nibbles away at our positive energetic fields. Anger can develop into impenetrable emotional blocks that can eventually cause physical problems, as well as emotional difficulties.
This Reiki client made the comment: I think I am most angry at myself. She talked about some of the “red flags” she had seen, but ignored. She also talked about how easily she trusts other people, even when they are unreliable. She mentioned how her young parents had not been trustworthy, as she was growing up. With a little encouragement from me, she decided to embark on a path of psychotherapy with an experienced therapist, and ongoing Reiki sessions for relaxation and clearing emotional blocks. The anger is releasing, and the stomach issues are subsiding; she is making wonderful progress.
Reiki brings the energies of healing to our battered souls. Holding onto anger can have a devastating effect on our lives. Reiki always show us a path to total healing. All we need to do is believe, and be open to the possibility of healing.
