Letting Go of the Past with Reiki

I want to share this experience with you. I’m in my 70’s and have always been plagued with recalling embarrassing or upsetting events in my life, and painfully “cringe” whenever I relive them.

So I used the power, distant, and healing symbols before telling all my past memories of such events to line up and let me see them. The line stretched way into the distance! I then used the healing symbol to send Reiki to all those events, and told them they no longer had the power to create negative emotions in me. I told them they were still part of me, but that from now on I would merely feel rueful humor whenever I brought them to mind.

I sent plenty of healing to them and finished with the power symbol.

Sure enough, when I later deliberately recalled a particularly embarrassing event, I just laughed and shook my head at how daft the earlier version of me was back then. No more cringing, no more pain!

If only I could have done these years ago, I could have avoided so much anguish.

  1. Thank you so much for this post! Yesterday I was sitting in a session with my therapist (who coincidentally introduced me to Reiki). I was having a very difficult time of things yesterday because the session was a bit somber and hard to talk at all. I knew if somehow I knew Reiki I could help myself feel less afraid and embarrassed to talk about my traumas. I am not yet even a 1st Degree but one day I will be. I will ask my therapist if I can do this for myself so that future sessions will be more productive and so that when feelings arise in me I can focus on healing!!! Be blessed!!!

    • Thank you Sara for the feedback. When I completed 2nd degree a few years ago I had doubts I could really help others. But I have used my Reiki skills to heal people’s emotional pain, remove troublesome spirits from people’s homes, stop my wife’s sneezing fits and help her sleep – and these successes built up my own self-confidence. My thoughts then turned to treating myself. The above article shows something that worked for me. I’m still trying other things.

      • Hi Bob, I m healing myself with 2nd degree for the last one year.I healed myself on lots of other ways but I m still struggling to heal sneezing fits in the morning..can u please explain wat did u actually manifest or said while treating ur wife for sneezing. All suggestions are welcomed with hearty reiki thanks.

        • My wife always sneezes in 10-sneeze fits! When she gets the first one, she comes to me and stands side on. I place one hand on the back of her neck, the other on her chest where the collar-bone meets the breast bone. I visualize and say the name three times of the power symbol, then the healing symbol. I tell the Reiki energy that my intent is to calm her and quell the sneezes. If the sneezes are still going, I keep visualizing the healing symbol and saying Sei Hei Ki over and over until the sneezing stops. Most times the sneezing stops within one or two after I start treating her.

          • Thanks Bob for explaining, I too get 6-10 sneezes in a row then every other few minutes. I will heal myself the way u told, reiki thanks.

  2. Thanks for your post. I love the fact that Reiki can be applied to all facets of life. From my personal experience, many people turned to Reiki for healing, whether physical or spiritual, then find that it offers so much more – it really is a way of life and path towards wisdom and happiness.

    • Fear and anxiety are about the future – something that may or may not actually come to pass. They are negative emotions that serve little purpose. You can use Reiki to send healing to yourself to lessen the impact of negative thoughts. Life works better if you can live in the Now. That means not dwelling on the past, because past events have gone by and you can’t do anything about them. Also, it means not worrying about the future, because you can’t actually control the future. What you can do, though, is look for things you can do now to prepare for possible future events. As an example. a young person worried about having enough to live on when they retire can start a savings and investment program now that will ensure they have enough in the future.

Most fear and anxiety is about how you will cope emotionally if some event occurs in the future. For this, Reiki can be sent via the distant healing symbol HSZSN to the (possible) future event. Your intent will be to build up a future fund of healing energy that you can draw on if that event should occur.

We should not let past events continue to upset us. Sending Reiki back to them heals them, and lets us live in peace – acknowledging that they did occur, and seeking to draw a lesson that will guide our future actions.

Nor should we waste energy agonizing over what may happen in the future. But we can send Reiki healing to our future selves to give us a greater sense of calm if the events do occur.

Best of all is to live as much as possible in the here and now. By all means review the past and use insights gained to guide what we do. And think about possible future events, but only so we can take action now to avoid such events or to prepare us emotionally to deal with them should they arise.

    • Every day, I go over the 5 Reiki principles (printed on a note stuck to my fridge!):

      Just for today

      . don’t get angry
      . don’t worry
      . do your work diligently
      . be grateful
      . be compassionate

Over the years, this has helped me calm down. I can’t alter the past, so getting angry over something that has already happened is pointless. No point worrying about the future either. I think about things that may happen, but only in order to make plans for dealing with them. Once I have a plan, I can stop worrying. Working diligently means focussing my attention fully on what I’m doing — living in the NOW. Being grateful for what I have stops me thinking about what I haven’t. And being compassionate means I see things through other people’s eyes, and getting a feel for what they must be going through. I don’t judge people, just their actions.

Letting go of the past involves allowing a memory of some negative past event to surface and bring forth pain, embarrassment, regret, or whatever. But this time, acknowledge the memory and accord it its rightful place in your past. Thank the memory for reminding you of your life’s journey that has brought you here today. Then send healing to the memory, and have the strongest intent to retain the memory but sever the emotional link that brings the suffering with it. Love the memory as an integral part of you, but tell it that it no longer has the power to generate the negative feelings it use to bring with it.

As I described in my article, I did a “block healing” of my past bad memories. It proved to be about 98% successful. I’ve dealt with the remaining 2% as described here. I’m now at peace.

    • If you go to the top of the web page and click on “Reiki Near You”, then click on “Australia and Oceania” you will find my location and contact details there.

I only do in-person healing, not distant healing.

        • Dear pretty,

I would like to send you Reiki healing. I am trying to get some feedback for distant Reiki from clients who don’t know me so that I can get objective feedback. I have been attuned to Reiki 1 in 2009 since then I have become a master teacher and send distant Reiki often to friends abroad and places. Also, I recently got attuned to Dolphin Reiki through distance attunement and it was unbelievable! If you like, contact me at zeynep.savin@ntlworld.com or you can go to Facebook page Blue Dolphin Reiki as well and message me.

I enjoyed reading Bob’s article and comments too.

          Love,
