The Color Indigo Blue

Articles

Article by Deborah Lloyd, Reiki Master

Take a few minutes and imagine the color Indigo Blue. Do you feel the strength and the wisdom imbued within its deep blue and purple energies? Have you ever wondered why the Third Eye, or Brow, Chakra is associated with this color?

All shades of blue are considered to be a “cool” color, devoid of passionate emotions. Rather, there is a calmness and a distant quality, enabling us to have a more rational perspective. While most of us know that one function of the Third Eye is to enhance our intuitive abilities, there are also bodily, physical functions. Our physical eyes see hundreds of images every second, and our intellectual mind is able to organize these images into an understandable structure. This chakra brings together our visual sight and brains so that we can operate on earth.

The Third Eye Chakra then connects this physical reality with the other-world reality. It is truly a bridge between these two worlds. When we use Reiki, we also connect these two worlds – we channel the Universal Life Force Energy into a physical body. We draw our symbols and state our intentions (silently or outloud), and then we place our hands in certain positions. As time goes on, we may even receive impressions, or messages, for the receiver. These inspirational thoughts are received from the spirit world, to help people in the physical world.

All of us travel to deep levels of consciousness on a regular basis. These occurrences can happen unintentionally, through nighttime dreams, or daytime mind-wanderings. Or, a person can learn to intentionally visit the spirit world through many methods, such as shamanic journeying, imaginative scenarios, and active meditation. This spirit-filled consciousness is often portrayed as a dark, vast, infinite place, with no limitations or boundaries. The Indigo Blue darkness is filled with eternal knowingness. When a person learns how to visit this place of infinity, life-changing messages are received, and eventually transformations take place. In fact, we use our minds to interpret the intuitive messages; everything is connected.

The night sky is a symbolic portrayal of this level of consciousness. Remember a time when you saw the night sky, with no backdrop of artificial lighting? Do you remember laying on the ground and gazing at the full moon and all the stars, so brilliant, so far away? The sky went on forever. What a beautiful, fulfilling sight it was!

Indigo Blue assists us in anchoring the spiritual energies into the dense energies of the earth. This involves using our minds, our intellectual capacities – along with our intuitive, inner knowing capacities. We blend cosmic consciousness with pragmatic, daily issues and problems. When we leave the earth and live in this consciousness, earthly concerns will dissipate. But, in the meantime, we have to work, eat and sleep. The problem is that so many of us spend too much time in the mundane living and forget about the other levels of reality.

If you set the intention to develop spiritual awareness and wisdom, bring the color Indigo Blue with you – whether it be physical, such as candles or a scarf; or, mental, imagining yourself “visiting” this spirit-filled Indigo Blue space during a meditative journey. Especially with the assistance of Reiki energies, you can become a wise and practical visionary!
