The word ‘Karma’ carries with it a negative connotation. It is often associated with suffering and pain. Many view it as a kind of punishment for their misdeeds. Some also believe that this punishment is imposed by God or a higher power who decides what is right and what is wrong. Many children are frightened into believing that if they do not comply, God will punish them for being bad. This belief is taken as truth and causes deep rooted fear.
And then there is the parallel belief that the more good one does, the more good karma he or she accumulates. It is believed that good karma is rewarded while bad karma invites punishment.
Karmic principles and laws are valid but they are not something to fear or to be taken literally. There is no one up there who is judging every thought, word and action of ours and making a note of how we must be punished for our so called sins.
We Create our Own Reality.
We Create our karma. Period.
Though it does not appear so, the deepest truth is that we have been creating our own reality since the beginning of time. We have operated from a state of non-awareness for eons of time, which may amount to several incarnations for many of us. In every incarnation of ours (including the present one), we have created karmic patterns, some positive and some negative. This was created by our relationship with our selves, with others and with the whole of existence. It is not always easy to accept that we create our own reality, especially when faced with issues like severe illness, abuse or something else that happened to us for no seeming fault of ours. However, with power comes responsibility and there is no easy way out. If we take responsibility for our lives, we also receive the power to heal karmic issues. If we choose to blame others, we give our power away and continue to remain stuck in karmic loops.

Karma can be of varied kinds such as:
- Individual Karma – This is karma that is limited to an individual. It can show up as struggles with health, relationships, finances and the like.
- Collective Karma – When a group of related or unrelated people share a similar issue, they are said to be recipients of collective karma. Victims of war, accidents and other unfortunate group incidents fall into this category.
- Ancestral Karma – This is where patterns are passed on from generation to generation. Genetic illnesses, early deaths, frequent miscarriages, abuse, violence, dysfunctional relationships and the like fall into this category.
Every karmic experience has a lesson in store for us. Once we learn the lesson, the pattern drops away of its own accord and the karma is healed. This is easier said than done as it can be mind boggling to analyse the dynamics of karma. However, in order to heal karma, it is not necessary to know what happened in each of our lifetimes or even to ponder over everything that happened in our current lifetime.
People often wonder if Reiki helps with karmic healing. The good news is that it most certainly does. It is not necessary for us to do anything special in order to heal karmic issues with Reiki. All it needs is that we surrender to the energy of Reiki and then go with the flow.
It is important to remember that once we heal, we break free from the respective karmic cycle. It is not necessary that every other person who is karmically involved with us must also heal at the same time.
How Reiki Helps with Karmic Issues
- The Reiki attunement opens us up and we invite more divine energy to flow through our bodies. This contact with Reiki increases our awareness quotient. We become aware of self limiting patterns in our lives, which is the first and most important step towards healing karmic patterns.
- Reiki heals at the cellular level and goes right to the root cause of every issue. It brings up hidden patterns and memories that need healing from across space and time. It gives us opportunities to heal past life issues, without always having to be aware of what exactly happened.
- If we need to see some past lives in order for karmic healing to occur, Reiki helps even with that. It leads us to the right resources and teachers who may help us go back in time and heal.
- Some amount of karmic healing automatically happens after being attuned to each level of Reiki. By the time one reaches the Master Level, one can expect to have healed plenty of individual karma. Karmic healing can continue even after the Master Level but that is often tailored to healing oneself for a global cause or a larger purpose.
- Reiki also invites Divine grace into our lives. Often, a touch of divine grace can help ease the process of karmic healing and reduce the number of bumps on the road.
- In cases of ancestral karma, by choosing to heal ourselves, we also contribute to healing our family tree. Our decision to heal an unhealthy pattern can bring healing to many generations before and after us.
We have all chosen to make Reiki a part of our lives. So, let us surrender to the energy and allow it to lead us. Let the energy lead us right back to our own inner light, where we finally discover that all karma is of our own doing. So we may then wake up from our dream, whole and healed. And possibly enjoy a hearty laugh at the end of it!

Great article explaining types of karma. I would add that forgiveness plays a vital role in self-clearing our karma. I often say, dear all the souls whom I and my ancestors have ever hurt or harmed, I deeply apologize. Please forgive me. I invite my ancestors to apologize on their own behalf. In order to receive your forgiveness, I will serve by helping others to become happier and healthier. This practice has transformed my negative experiences to positive ones. I don’t react as easily as I did before I began this practice. Bless you.

In this Lifetime, I chose to be born in America (and into a Catholic family!), but I’ve understood Karma since I was a child. I jokingly call myself a ‘recovering Catholic’ as from a very young age I was innately aware of the Divine, and as an adult I gravitate towards eclectic Spirituality rather than subscribing to ONE doctrine or philosophy. Thankyou. Lately the internet has been full of people saying that when you give Reiki / NRG healing you are taking on other peoples karma and it will inevitably fall back on you negatively at some point. What do you think about this aspect of karma please ? I find it hard to believe that when one gives healing with pure intention and consent that this would be the case, and think it might be false light trying to plunge us back into fearbased reality. You do not take on someone’s negative karma by helping them. Reiki energy done as you have stated or any energy physical or meta-physical effort aimed for the benefit of others can only be a good thing. What’s on the internet in terms of negative rebuttals concerning Reiki is as follows & comes from many sources , all being similar. The first 2 major protractors are as follows:
(1) Born again Christianity; which is a fairly new sect or denomination of Christianity . Christianity is as all religions one in progress meaning ever changing to fit the needs of the people. All the “ denominations “ or sects that followed the Protestant revolution against Catholicism came primarily after the last Black Plague when the times were called “ The age of reason over religion “because of the Catholic inquisitions. A time of educated & reason prevailed which gave rise to new sects who didn’t coin the word Christian until nepolean’s grandson rediscovered the papers of Osiris , circa 19th century. History is very different than the official narrative. Papers in Greek – papyrus. In Latin – biblios. English- papers . The Bible means papers. Most of it comes from other earlier religions that pre-date Judaism , whom never endorsed what we now called Christianity but didn’t then . Roman Catholicism not invented until around 1000Ad. Now I gave you that so my explanation will make sense. Born again Christianity started in los angelos California in a rooming house filled with poor African Americans. They prayed fervently & Received the Holy Spirit unlike any denomination before . While in other countries that are infested with voodoo Satan whorship Pentacostalism as it came to be known fought as the first line offense against the hordes of hell . But in the USA it didn’t take off until Tony Alamo’s revival in the 1950’s calling itself “ Born Again Christianity “ They are the hard core end of Christianity. Full force if that’s your thing. Since then splinter groups calling themselves the same thing have turned up pandering to mainly disenfranchised Catholics. Since they feel they have a direct line to God ( Exclusively) then only they can claim to heal. All others are pretenders or worse a false sign of the enemy. They have failed to learn the lessons of the past. Their fear of evil is greater than their belief in good or God. They cannot match the wonders of reiki so in their minds it must be evil . Imagine having to open up one’s mind and actually learn for oneself?. Whoa! Say it ain’t so . I read it in a book . ..That’s my connection?! Their are sites on the internet that claim to be Christian (;* they always leave out the {born again} part because mainstream christianity considers them a fringe sect) & proport that the attunements are in fact demons & we’re making alligiances to Satan. It doesn’t get any more twisted than that!!!
(2)Indian Gurus. In the new age medium of leaning energy modalities people come across self acclaimed gurus , some authentic. The problem is their premise is that no one can operate to aid others with energy accept only if guided by a guru;( them- wink wink!) …& to be fair some of their claims are legitimate as far as knowing ones limits & true potential & to move on that first before diluting ones energy/efforts towards other goals. Time = experience. Experience can lead to greater power, etc. But until the simplicity of Reiki there has never been an easier method of establishing mercy , loving kindness & all compassionate action here on the earth that didn’t require living in an ashram for 25 years & that dies assist in all manner of the highest good for all. It’s a game changing this Reiki. It seems no one from these old orders of thinking we’re ready for it. So I continue to pray for them, of course! Hopefully that shed a little more light on the subject. My name is Bodhi la Rue & I am a Reiki Master teacher practitioner for 20 years as well as an active Christian & belong to & practice 10 different mediums of energy healing . None of what I practice dilutes the sovereignty of The divine but if fact reflects my love affair for God. Namaste!
After healing others, the healer should always practise cutting the cords after each individual person’s healing.
Thank you for the wonderful explanation. I remember a family where males usually died at age 30-35 with various accident ( Road traffic ,burning ) with healthy body. And only one male survives .2 generation of this family suffering with this ..They made some sacrifice to remove this negative events but still the same
This is a universal misconception unfortunately. Not just westerners, but people in general use Karma as a “bogeyman”, frightening others into believing that it’s what you deserve for your actions. I’ve heard people saying that it’s their karma that they suffer a certain unfortunate fate. Good article to enlighten the world. Thank you!
