The ways to use crystals and gemstones in combination with Reiki may be as varied as the number of Reiki practitioners there are in the world today. Some prefer not to use crystals at all, either feeling no affinity with them or fearing that it will cause issues in their practice with those who do not believe that crystals are effective and find them a bit “woo-woo”. There is no need to make a show of using crystals, if you choose to use them and don’t want to cause a big stir.
You can use crystals simply by wearing one on your body, on a necklace or other piece of jewelry or by keeping them in your pocket. If you charge them with the purpose you intend, such as helping you stay grounding during the session, shielding or assisting you with the healing, they will be able to do their work from wherever they are.
Another option is to place the chosen crystals in the corners of the room, in inconspicuous places, or in other out of the way places around the room. Often , if these are placed in a decorative fashion and there is no fuss made over them, they simply look like any other part of the room decor. They will emit a calm and soothing energy that your client will likely not even be aware of.
Some practitioners place crystals underneath their Reiki table, in a crystal grid that is charged with assisting in the healing process, or with assisting in creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere for the healing process to take place. Grids can be created by simply following your own intuition in placing the crystals in position, listening to the vibration of each crystal as you place them. You will end up will a geometric pattern whose energy you can feel.
To properly and safely use crystals in Reiki, always cleanse your crystals before each session and again after each session. You can do this by allowing them to soak in a rinse of warm water with about a teaspoon of sea salt for 15-20 minutes. Other methods are to allow cold water to run over them for a few minutes or to run the crystal through a stream of smoke from burning sage or a smudge stick. If you have several clients in a day, you may need to use one of these faster methods during the day.
However, it is best to use the salt water soak at the end of the day and as often as possible between clients. Otherwise the crystals become bogged down with lots of people’s energy and feel dense, full and heavy. Empaths and psychics can sometimes feel drained when around a crystal that needs to be cleansed.
Choose the crystals that you feel most drawn to for your Reiki room and for use on your own body or with clients. When using crystals to help align the chakras, it is often easiest to choose those that correspond to the color of the chakra you are working with. However, remember, Reiki always works to balance all the chakras.
