HO’OPONOPONO is a beautiful technique I learnt long back that can do wonders in relationships. It repairs the relationship for the highest good. We often find it difficult to forgive people who have hurt us. It is important to release anger, resentment, hurt and unforgiveness. Unforgiveness especially is an evil energy that blocks you from receiving.
HO’OPONOPONO is an ancient Hawaiian practice for forgiveness. Historically, this practice was only done by priests called Kahuna. However, now anyone can benefit from this ritual. Light a candle or an oil lamp. List down the names of the people you have issues forgiving. Include even those people who have remotely irritated you. Include all the people whom you have hurt across lifetimes.
Obviously, you will not know the names of the people you have hurt or who have hurt you in your past lives. So, just mention it as “everyone I have hurt across all directions of time.” And “everyone who have hurt me across all directions of time.”
Go through each of the names, mentally hold an image of the person in your mind and say HO’OPONOPONO _____ (name of person)
I am sorry
Please forgive me
I love you
Thank you
do this 2 – 3 times with each person and each time you say thank you exhale with your mouth. As though you are releasing that person and the grievance you had towards the person. Finish the entire list, your forgiveness session is done!
Reiki practitioners can do the same procedure, drawing a big Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen at the back of the paper. This will connect you to the energies of everyone in your list. Including the unknown people of past lives. Your relationships will heal for the highest good.
All misunderstandings will get cleared. Both Reiki and HO’OPONOPONO send a message to the souls of the people, that all grievances are forgiven and forgotten. Try, it really works!

HOʻOPONOPONO in net long back but didn’t know what it was!? through you this has been revealed! Thank you and angels and divine energy Reiki for this. Love and Light.
thank you for the high words of praise…do try this and let me know
Wow that was powerful!

Namaste 🙂
ya this is intense !
Thank You Sister
Hi Ananya,
Can we put even our name in the list?
yes you can
The proper way to apply Ho’oponopono is to say:
I am sorry
Please forgive me
I love you
Thank you
You must not forget the ‘Please forgive me’
Namaste
thanks !
Ho’oponopomo is about clearing oneself. Personal responsibility. You see in others what’s in yourself. So it’s about clearing shared energy. Clearing the programs in YOU that are preventing YOU being at the pure state: LOVE. Nothing to do with forgiving the other person.
I’m sorry please forgive me is to acknowledge that something has gotten into your mind/body system. You are telling the divine that you want forgiveness inside YOURSELF for whatever brought it into YOU. You’re not asking the divine to forgive you, you’re aaking the divine to help you forgive yourself.
From there you say Thank you and I love you. When you say thankyou you are expressing gratitude. You are showing faith that the issue will be resolved for the highest good of all concerned. The “I love you” transmutes the energy from stuck to flowing. It reconnects you to the divine. To get to the state of expressing pure love, which is what the divine is.
I hope this helps folk understand and apply the process consciously. The more we clear the better our work will be.
Love, light & blessings x
Thanks for the amazing article, I have shared it on my fb page with due gratitude to you.

Hi Ananya thank you for your always very informative articles. I have learnt and used this ancient practice some time ago. I also have a book on the origin of it and it goes like
I love you
l’m sorry
Please forgive me
Thank you
Now I do love your method of application ie quiet room candle and saying the persons name but I believe you have omitte probably the most impostant line of “please forgive me”maybe it was just a typo! anyway thanks again for all the lovely articles love light abd blessings to you
What a beautiful article! And a great idea to use Ho’oponopono with Reiki! As a native Hawaiian and practionar of Ho’oponopono however, the phrase “please forgive me” is paramount and without it, it is not Ho’oponopono. Aloha!
it seems to have worked I have done this one before long time ago but not resulted like now but also doing your weekly guidance on forgiveness anyway it’s working thank you so much and bless your amazing work Ananya ! Namaste to you and all x
Hi ananya. Should I invoke reiki before hooponopono..???
Hi Ananya kitani baar ye list ko karna hoga ? kya 1 baar kafi hai? love and light…..to you 7 thank you
Hi Ananya,
I always find your articles very helpful!
How many sessions should we do? How do we know it worked?
Thank so much and God bless you!
special thanks ananya
that was so good for me
be happy
I heard of RMT’s who were taught that they had to ‘turn off’ their Reiki while studying this. They weren’t to facilitate or receive Reiki when working with & studying this practice. Would you please address this? Thank you
Namaste
You need to put your name first and forgive yourself for carrying all that baggage! Otherwise I loved the article
I teach Ho’oponopono in my Reiki Level 1 class, along with the precepts. It acts as a mantra for the conscious mind to focus on and displace monkey chatter. I equate it to our life is a black board that gets gum, fingerprint smears, post-it-notes, scotch tape, thumb tacs, and forgotten dirty energy on it. Ho’oponopono is like taking a windex bottle and towel and cleaning the beautiful blackboard back to its original pristine self. As we clean up the old aka cords and limiting beliefs we clean up and improve our ability to channel reiki.
It is all energy from source but different ways of directing it. Yes, you can mix Reiki and ho’oponopono no worries!
My daughter and I recite this in heavy traffic and watch the traffic jam clear, we recite it when late for an event and arrive on time, we recite it as we fall asleep and awaken refreshed, when we have an issue that needs Divine intervention, all the time, before we open bills… as with Reiki the possibilities are endless.
It helps reprogram the mind from looking for worst case scenario to allowing ease, best case scenarios, and endless possibilities!
In the Ho’oponopono teachings I received with Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, we could not teach Ho’oponopono for several reasons.
I use this video of Ho’oponopono as much as possble.

I am so very grateful Joe Vitale and Dr. Hew Len co-authored the book “Zero Limits” so some of the teachings could go out to the world more widely.

I love you comment. Thank you!
Where is the “I forgive you” part.?
Thank you Anania for the words of wisdome.
Thank you. I always follow it articles
A million Thanks for this great article! I am wondering though, what are we supposed to do with the piece of paper? Shall we keep it, throw it away? Burn it?
Thanks again. Peace.
Thank you Ananya very much.
I work in Reiki classes and sessions and I advice it to people. It works also very well as thinking the person (s) with gentle heart saying “Dear God,
I am sorry
I love you
Thank you”
Another very powerful Ho’oponopono is thinking the person (s) and say
“I love you, please forgive me for not have worked with myself more so you could be better (or in better situation)” It also works rapidly and magically.
Much love
Namaste
I have a question for you. You are talking about people we have or might have hurt but… if you are in a situation where even though you are good and kind and a giver, those people hurt you badly and sometimes ~ like in my situation ~ going to the point of murder attempt… why? Is this technique could do something valuable in this situation? There is also a lot of trauma on my side after such an experience… she tried to kill me twice and then pass 3 years in sending e death threats and hate message. Will it help in dispersing this trauma?
Thank you 🙂
Dear ananya do we have to burn the paper and burry ashes under tree or throw innn the sea
Thank you for your article Ananya, I’m learning so much from your wisdom and experience. Your teachings are helping me to build confidence in becoming a Reiki practitioner and opening a treatment space so I can start healing. It took me a long time to send love and forgiveness to those that had caused me pain and suffering, and even longer to accept that I had caused pain and suffering to others too. The ceremony I performed was based in Moon magic, goddess connections. It is only when we forgive ourselves and others that we can truly release and open to the Divine. May all beings be happy and at peace; living lives of abundance and joy. Namaste
Thank you for this loving, forgiving healing technique. I find forgiveness is very common with my Reiki clients and will share this with them. Namaste.
My understanding of this Ho oponopono includes “Please forgive me” – after I am sorry. I see you do not add this. I can attest that this is indeed a very lovely and powerful “technique” Blessings ~
The ho’oponopono is composed of 4 statements: I’m sorry, Please forgive me, Thank you, I love you. You can enhance ANY modality using Reiki! I do think it is important to stick with the original statements. Having been a Reiki Master/Teacher since 96, I know how Reiki can boost the energy of any positive, healing practice.
Dear Ananya
Thanks for this article… i think it can open many doors of healing. However after going through the article, i have some queries –
1] What to do with the paper on which the names are written?
2] How many sittings we need to for this and with what frequency?
3] How it is to be pronounced – is it HO OPO NO PO NO OR HOO PO NO PO NO
These might sound very basic questions but would be glad if you can share insights on this.
Thanks and regards
Dear Bella,
Apology for replying since Anaya has not replied, this is pronounced as Ho-o-pono-pono.
Regards
Kunal
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS BEAUTIFUL TECHNIQUE..
Great article! I have been practicing ho’oponopono since before reiki! It’s amazing! I often use it while working on someone as well. I sometimes use to on myself while working on another as well to clear anything that might be between myself and the person whether in this life or another.
Hello, Perfect timing as I just received Reiki Level 1 initiation and had actually been wondering about including Ho’oponopono. I was always under the impression there were four statements, not three:
I’m sorry
Please forgive me
Thank You
I love you
I often use this as a meditation mantra, sitting or walking meditation, or if I am standing in line at grocery store or stuck in traffic
Dear Anaya,
Thanks for the great technique. No doubt Forgiveness creates miracles in Individual’s life. Being a professional reiki practitioner we can suggest this technique whom we are also giving reiki using Hosanna symbol.
Need your opinion
From a Kahuna named Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona

I read about this in Joe Vitale’s Book Zero Limits and thought it was just too simple, but keeping an open mind, I tried it anyway.
I also struggled with the concept that we not send healing without permission from the receiver unless it was an emergency. But “ho’oponopono” says we must send healing if we notice something is wrong. One hateful person kept coming to my mind as needing healing, but I was not sure I should do so. Finally I prayed to God as to what I should do and I heard the words, “I love you.” I knew then that I must send “ho’oponopono” to her and began that night.
I used it in combination with my other healing methods and I was so surprised when I woke up the next morning. I usually wake up pleasant and calm, but this day, I woke up feeling VERY happy! I think the healing cut the negative chords between us.
It was not easy to do “ho’oponopono” as I needed to feel the words… not just say them. I needed to be sincere.
When I saw her again, she seemed better and looked better. So I sent her more the next night and the next. Someone that knew her asked me what I had done to her (just teasing) and said that she seemed “happy” that week. When I told him about it, he replied that I needed to teach him!
I wish I could say she is always nice and very happy, but she doesn’t want to be. When she is at her worst though, I ask God to “send her some love” and something very nice happens shortly after that makes her happy. I can’t explain why it works… but it does.
Thank you for sharing. I’ll try tomorrow morning.
Goodnight.
Namaste.
New knowledge for me. For me its difficult to forgive. Will try n then tell my experience. Thank you for sharing wonderful thing.
