A deep inner calling led me to Reiki and I began my Reiki training with a bang in the year 2007.
Reiki practice brought me several gifts.
I loved the fact that my hands warmed up every time I placed them on a chakra.
I loved being lulled to sleep by the gentle warmth that infused my body.
I loved the synchronicity that began to work magic in my life soon after my Reiki attunement – whatever wasn’t working for me gently moved out of my life and people and circumstances that were a better match to my vibration came in.
The biggest gift of all was that Reiki helped me connect to my expansive multi-dimensional nature. As a new Reiki practitioner, I was in a state of openness and flow. I simply allowed the energy to work its magic in my life.
And it did – big time!
Along the way, I heard from a few sources that Reiki in itself was sufficient to achieve any outcome in life. Without pausing to reflect on whether that may be accurate or not, I developed rigid expectations of Reiki.
To share an example, I was working on healing certain fears and phobias. I expected Reiki practice to make them go away, not realizing that a combination of healing approaches may have worked better to address them.
I began to see Reiki as a guaranteed solution to all problems and felt let down when things didn’t go as I expected them to.
With this attitude began my decline as a Reiki practitioner. I had moved away from the flow state (which brought me everything I needed) and moved into non-flow (where I wasn’t getting anything I wanted).
Frustration built up and eventually, I stopped practicing Reiki.
While this may seem like a back-step, in hindsight, I realised this happened for my highest good.
I personally feel Reiki decided to disappear from my life so it could prepare me for a greater understanding and experience of it. I believe Reiki brought me what I most needed by disappearing from my life temporarily.
During this period of disappearance, there were times when I felt an urge to give myself Reiki.
However, my inner critic said, “What’s the point? You will not get what you want anyway!”
But the urge to feel the touch of Reiki was so strong that I ignored my inner critic and went on to practice Reiki, just for the sake of it. And then I forgot all about it until I felt the urge again.
This happened once every few months over a period of three years.
In the year 2012, the urge grew stronger and I felt I ought to make Reiki a part of my everyday life again.
And this time around, I took a conscious decision to practice Reiki with no expectations.
And with this decision began a whole new level of Reiki training.
I was in complete surrender to the energy, open to any and all possibilities.
With time, magic returned to my life.
Synchronicity kicked in again.
Reiki did not directly heal my fears and phobias but led me to people and resources who would help me heal them.
I was guided to some amazing teachers and did in depth work in the areas of past life regression, inner child healing and family constellation work (transgenerational healing). All of this together along with Reiki supported me in letting go of plenty of old baggage and to begin life afresh.
Around the same time, I was also guided to train in the Reiki Master Level and this was another huge step forward.
Apart from my human Reiki teachers, I honour Reiki itself as one of my primary teachers.
I feel Reiki held my hand and tutored me every step of the way.
People often ask me how training for Reiki can happen in a day’s time or less!
And I say that’s just the first step to help you get started on a practical level. The real training begins when one starts practicing Reiki and it continues for life, for there is no limit to how much we can learn about Reiki.
However, for this kind of mastery to happen, one has to be consistent with practice. To understand the depths of something, one has to be willing to invest time and effort to explore the depths of it.
Reiki practice is not limited to the 21 days post attunement. It must be done every day, much like brushing your teeth or taking a shower.
I encourage you to make the most of your Reiki practice. Let go of all expectations. Allow Reiki to reveal itself to you and see for yourself where that leads you!
