The New Year is here, and as the saying goes, “Ring in the new and ring out the old”. Many people decide to make New Year’s Resolutions, seeking to make changes, nominal or drastic, to help change their life’s luck or course.
I use Reiki and Nature to help let go of the old and bring in the new. Below is a New Year’s ritual that you can use on your own. At the end of the article, I have offered some modifications to make it more accessible to all.
The metaphysical properties of the birch tree are associated with purification and new beginnings. Exactly what we want at New Year’s. What is it that you want to release for this year? Are there negative habits, energy blockages, stagnant or repetitive patterns that you wish to break? What is something that you want to begin or create in the new year? A new job? Start a project? Create and work on new paths for your life?
The bark of the birch tree* can be (and has been) used to write on. You need a dried piece of bark, one that you have found on the ground. I first ask the tree if I can use the bark. I think it’s extremely important to acknowledge the tree’s spirit and be thankful for its gift. You will use this bark, as though it was a piece of paper.
Meditate and reflect upon this past year. What changes do you want to experience in the new year? Jot down your thoughts and formulate an intention for your new year.
Send Reiki to the birch bark. Write your intention on the bark (or, visualize it on the bark). Visualize this intention being created and manifesting in the new year. Safely, burn the bark and release the intention out into the world. The bark will purify and release the negative energy of the past year. The Reiki energy sent to the bark will go out into the Universe, to work on bringing in your new intention, for this upcoming year.
Finish by thanking the bark, the Reiki, and the Universe for helping you ring out old and ring in the new this New Year.
*If you do not have access to the bark of a birch tree then here are some alternative ideas to use with this ritual. There is birch essential oil. You can use a birch leaf. Find an image of a birch tree online to help you make an image of the tree on a piece of paper that could be burnt in lieu of bark.
