As we in the northern hemisphere begin to see signs of spring I have been pondering how I can take inspiration from Spring to use in my Reiki self-healing practice, with particular reference to helping with self-development.
To me Spring is all about new beginnings, awakenings, and potential, I can see this in the buds on the trees and the new shoots growing from the earth. Its a time when I feel brighter as I’m stepping out of the January post Christmas slump when the dark days and aftermath of the festive season were still weighing me down and I was in hibernation mode. By early Spring I’m rested, detoxed and rejuvenated, ready to take on the year. The early signs of spring in nature add to this uplifted energy, as does the returning sun light.
I take this Spring inspiration into my self healing and meditation to help me to look at whether I need to make new beginnings, take a fresh perspective, or if there are areas where I need to ‘awaken’ and to give my daily Reiki self-healing a boost of that young, innocent, vibrant energy that comes with Spring. Obviously, it is not necessary to use any outside stimulus in Reiki other than the pure Reiki energy but if you fancy a bit of a change, like to try new things or are in need of the Spring vibe, these ideas are a bit of fun and might help put a Spring in your step.
Here are a few ways to bring Spring into your Reiki self-healing and development:
Grounding is very important, especially when we’re giving regular Reiki treatments. I like to visualise myself like a tree; my roots going deep into the earth, anchoring me to Mother Earth. I also visualise having branches reaching above me, taking nourishment from the Divine Reiki energy above and drawing it down into my physical body. This is a great way to prepare for giving a treatment but also a great re-energiser when you’re feeling low or sluggish. Self-healing to the base chakra will help with grounding. If you’d like to you can also visualise all of your ideas and hopes for the year as buds on that tree and see them nourished by the Reiki you are giving them and blossoming into being.
The Spring brings the opportunity to get outdoors and breathe fresh air. Get outside as often as you can to absorb the beautiful spring energy all around. Listen to the birds and insects, smell the grass and fresh air, feel the bark of a tree or the carpet of grass. Use all of your senses to emerge yourself in the moment. Breathe in the sense of calm, assured potential and recognise where it could help in your life. If you can get your bare hands and feet into the earth all the better, feel the energy that is flowing all around you. Whilst outdoors channel Reiki for self-healing and also project some out into the world around you with love and gratitude for Nature. If you can’t get outside lay on a green blanket (or another colour that reminds you of Spring), and visualise a bright Spring day while channeling Reiki for self-healing.
The day light returns in the spring, remind yourself to open your heart to the healing light of Reiki just as the earth wakens from her winter slumber and opens all of her leaves and buds to the sunlight. Send Reiki to your Heart chakra and visualise it opening to accept the light, I like to visualise it as a sunflower. You can also visualise your Crown chakra as a beautiful flower that opens to the healing Reiki light as it enters your body through the top of your head.
If you have got yourself into a comfortable rut with your spiritual practice or Reiki practice and feel like you need to push yourself a little further, explore more, try new things and advance yourself in some way it might help to visualise yourself as a seedling with young roots in the earth and tender shoots just pushing through the soil. Think about real ways that you can put roots down (this may be regarding the people you spend time with, where you live, financial or emotional security, building foundations by studying or working in a particular area etc). And also where you can really grow (learning and applying your knowledge, challenging yourself, meeting people, trying new things, etc.). Give yourself Reiki for self healing and use whatever Reiki symbols you feel will help nurture your confidence and empower you in your endeavours (Cho Ku Rei is the obvious one here, but you might have others that you work with), as you visualise your roots growing stronger and deeper, giving you a firm and safe foundation. Focus the Reiki to your Root Chakra to help with this. Next, visualise your little green shoots pushing through the soil and growing into a lush and healthy plant with buds of ideas to be nurtured into blossoms and the fruits of your labours ripening. Send Reiki to your Solar Plexus for confidence, Throat chakra for communication or wherever else you feel needs it to help you with personal growth. Each time you repeat this visualisation you can see your roots, shoots, buds, leaves, blossoms, and fruits growing more and more as you simultaneously push yourself out of your comfort zone and go further down your soul path.
Spring is a time when all nature seems to be getting out there and showing itself of to it’s best advantage, animals are attracting mates, plants and trees are blossoming, everything seems alive and buzzing. It may help you to think of this when you are giving yourself Reiki healing for similar areas in your life (social confidence, meeting people etc). I love those inspirational sayings about a flower not comparing itself to the other flowers but just blooming or: “A bird does not sing because it has an answer but because it has a song.”(Maya Angelou), use these for inspiration if it helps.
Wishing you the joys of Spring, whatever the weather or season where you are.
