Are you stuck in a job, a home, a relationship that you have outgrown or that no longer suits you? Often we find ourselves trudging through an everyday life that feels stale and joyless for a lack of a decision to move to something better.
Life is complicated. Decisions can be fraught with anxiety and uncertainty. Even the smaller ones can be stressful and major life changes are always difficult to face head on.
• Can I afford a new car and if so, what should I buy? Do I have the confidence and experience to negotiate the price?
• My neighbors are loud, messy and sometimes scary. Dealing with this stressful living situation is bringing my energy down. Should I move to nicer, quieter place?
• What about my job? My coworkers are so negative and can be gossips. It is hard for me to spend so much of my day with them. I want to have more free time to spend on the things I love but I am afraid to make a major change.
• This relationship is not what I want. I need some freedom and space. I can no longer settle for less than I deserve or tolerate abuse.
• I need to be free of this dependence on drugs, alcohol, food, sex… How can I make a change to give me the tools I need to release my addiction?
Putting off a decision due to fear or anxiety is a decision in itself. You decide not to decide, at least for the moment. Sometimes this can be a good thing, but other times we stay stuck because we lack the courage to face what we know in our heart is true. Staying in a bad or ill-fitting situation for too long can force into an uncomfortable position – often referred to as being “between a rock and a hard place.” When we feel we have no way out, we sometimes make desperate choices out of necessity or frustration. Clearly, we want to avoid getting into a position that limits our choices. We prefer to make changes in a positive and sane manner. If you are having a tough time making positive life choices, there are tools that can help.
Time spent in meditation is invaluable to making a calm, clear decision. In order to use your mind and heart to create positive change, meditation can be a refreshing way to bring in options your consciousness may have been hiding from you. Clearing the mind is the first step to sensible decision making. You would not want to make a major life choice without knowing all the options. Sometimes our busy, stressed brain needs to unwind to allow new thoughts and inspiration to come to light. Meditation gives us the time and space necessary to make a sane, thoughtful choice, saving us from impulsive mistakes.
Reiki can be so helpful to the meditation process. Calm, loving energy is always a welcome addition to any meditation practice. If you are particularly stressed, there is nothing like self-healing to clear blocked channels and open the way to new paths. Practice with Reiki can bring connection to spirit guides and to your higher self-intuition. Allow Reiki to clear away negative energy that may be causing you anxiety and hindering your progress. Use breath and intention to clear away what no longer serves you and allow positive energy to flow.
Another important tool is writing. Get out a pen and paper and make a list of pros and cons of your decision. Seeing the issue in black and white can hasten the decision making by pointing out the obvious. Be clear and make sure to include all the points, even small ones. How you will feel once the decision is made? Try to put yourself into the new situation by visualizing the results. See yourself in the new apartment, car, or situation. Will you be relieved, happy, free? If your decision involves additional expenses or leaving someone familiar behind, you might also be less comfortable money-wise or lonely. Write this all down so it is clear. Once you are done, put the information away and look at it again after some time has passed. Seeing it with fresh eyes may surprise you. If this process is difficult or stressful for you, send Reiki to your pen and paper and ask for guidance and calm.
Consultation with others can also be helpful. Talking to a trusted friend or counselor is often just the thing to soothe frazzled nerves and get some much-needed support in the physical realm. Spiritually speaking, time in nature or requests made of our spirit guides, angels or ancestors is a lovely way to get new ideas. Insight may also be found in tarot spreads, pendulum readings, runes or other metaphysical tools. Just be sure to be fully grounded and make sure you do not make a hasty choice based on a whim. Good decision making requires time spent weighing the possible results of a choice and ensuring that you are truly on a path that takes you in the right direction.
Change can be exciting, fun and rewarding. Using all the tools available to use ensures a good result!
