Vel is an alternative Reiki symbol. It is taught in Karuna Reiki® as an additional symbol for removing the negative blocks. A very powerful symbol used in all spheres of life.
Origin of Vel
The Vel is the divine javelin (spear) of the Lord Murugan. Goddess Parvati presented the Vel to Lord Murugan as an embodiment of her Shakti or power in order to vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. According to the Skanda Purana, Murugan used his Vel or Spear to defeat all the evil forces of Soorapadman.
Murugan too keen for the deception, hurled his Vel and split the mango tree into two halves, one becoming Seval (a rooster) and the other Mayil (a peacock). Murugan, henceforth, had the peacock as his Vahanam (Vehicle) and the rooster became the emblem on his battle flag. The Vel became the symbol of valor and of the triumph of good over evil. The spear used by ancient Tamils in warfare is also commonly known by this name.

Successful Testimonies
I have tested using the Vel symbol in my life over different scenarios. Results are amazing.
My first article “Healing a Deaf and Dumb Girl” is again a tested case that brought success in healing.
Post my article, I have got queries from people asking for the symbol with its other tested usage. I am sharing some application uses of this symbol along with its notation.
- During the healing process, to remove some hard core blockages noticed in any particular location or chakras of a healee or self, Vel symbol can be used to clear blockages. Procedure: Vel symbol sandwiched between clockwise and anticlockwise CKR and is drawn on the body part or the chakra that needs to be cleared of blockages.
- Also when the person is not ready to accept Reiki healing, Vel Symbol can be used by sandwiching between clockwise and anticlockwise CKR and drawn on the back head, back heart chakra and both the knees.
- Vel Symbol can be used to find the lost items. In this case, the person and the lost item should be covered with white light using the traditional Reiki symbols. Then HSZSN is drawn between the person and item along with Vel symbol sandwiched between clockwise and anticlockwise CKR. Vel should be drawn from the Heart chakra of the person to the item and from the item back to the Heart chakra of the person. Now request the Reiki and Vel to trace the item. In no time the lost item will be traced. Recently I got a message from Susan (named changed) stating that her cousin has lost his baggage containing important documents in one of the places in America. I’ve followed the above procedure and within two hours I got a message from Susan thanking me that the baggage was traced and by the next day morning that her cousin got his baggage.
- Vel Symbol can also be used to clear the traffic.
Procedure: Vel symbol is drawn pointing towards the traffic. Immediately one can notice the traffic starts moving.

Those who are interested in mythological aspects, could Google Skanda, Kartikeya, SkandaMata, Katyeyani, & KanyaKumari who waits patiently till the end of time for Skanda/Kartikeya/Murugan to destroy the evil Demon Tarakasura. Skandamata (Throat) is the form of Durga/Parvathi who is Murugan’s Mother, & Katyeyani (third eye) is his Shakti. Skanda/Murugan is the leader of the heavenly army, & I’m often struck by the similitude to AA Michael. It seems to me that Deva/Devi & “Angel” are practically interchangeable terms. There are many other parallels, which you can work out for yourself. Have fun with them!
Nice article. But one doubt, I didn’t learn Karuna Reiki, I’ve learnt Reiki 2nd degree. Can I use this symbol?
Same doubt as above. I haven’t learnt Karuna Reiki, I’ve learnt Reiki 2nd degree. Can I use this symbol? Would it requires special attunement / reattunement?
Next to the symbol it says “Attunement is required to use this symbol.”

I am not attuned to karuna Reiki. But I am a Reiki Master. Can you get attuned to this symbol?
How do we become Attuned? I am feeling that if we meditate on the symbol and its purpose that we can this way but not sure! Blessings and thank you

Pardon me, but the Vel symbol May be a part of other Reiki lineages is not a part of Karuna Reiki®️.
It is not in The Karuna Reiki®️ Master Training Manual and it is not mentioned either.
In 1998 when I’ve done my masters and grandmasters, my masters have taught me alongwith karuna reiki symbols

This is just wonderfully amazing.
I had lost my scooter’s registration card at a fuel station for more than 2 weeks.
I went back there in attempt to find the card at least 3-4 times, contacted their office, searched for the lost card in scourging sun and searched hard in the adjacent roads next to the station.
Yesterday I read this article and invoked the Vel symbol.
Today morning two young men came to my residence and handed over the card to me. They found the card, saw my address in it and came all the way to meet me and give it personally. Feel so blessed and grateful.
